About Sherry Rasmussen

We have been involved the ARTs in Bar Harbor since the early 1970’s and participate in local ART events such as First Friday ART walks. Ivan, who was once Bar Harbor Harbormaster, has spent most of his life near the ocean first in his native Oregon and now on Mount Desert Island, home to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

Sherry traveled extensively as an international flight attendant.Though her travels took her to many beautiful destinations, she says that Mount Desert Island is truly one of the world's treasures.

The beauty of the island is what drew us to Bar Harbor. The magic of the island will captivate you as well.

Ivan captures the beauty of the Acadia in his watercolors that he sells in his own 'ART on West' and other galleries.

Bar Harbor is one of Maine's most walkable communities so we live right in the downtown nfor the convenience of walking to movies, theater, dining, boating, shopping and more. Like us, our visitors walk or bike into Acadia National Park. A free bus runs from mid-June to mid-October from the Village of Bar Harbor into Acadia National Park and to neighboring Villages. We are often asked if Bar Harbor is near Acadia National Park. Our downtown is surrounded by Acadia National Park and the nearby Bar Island is just a short walk from your suite. Did you know that the 'bar' to Bar Island is the reason for the name of Bar Harbor? You can see Bar Island from your suite. It is one of several islands of Acadia and the only one that is walkable from Bar Harbor!

We love to share our community and island with visitors from around the world. You check in for your week at our 'ART on West Gallery'. We are there to get you started on a perfect vacation.

Sherry Rasmussen purchased this apartment in 1976

Why Sherry Rasmussen chose Bar Harbor

The best feature of the unit is the furnished covered private deck with waterview. You have so much room in the suite. For your convenience there is private, off street parking and the amenities of the world renowned Village of Bar Harbor are all walkable.

What makes this apartment unique

Location, location, location. Your suite is located on the West Street Waterfront and close to Bar Harbor's fine restaurants, galleries, and boating activities. You can watch the horse drawn carriages when they come into town for wedding and special events. There is a free self guided walking tour called 'Museum in the Streets'. You can jump on the tour at the neighboring Bar Harbor Club or anywhere in town to learn the history of our hometown.

A perfect spot for a beautiful town

  • 5 of 5

We loved our vacation in Bar Harbor. We spent a lot of time looking into rentals for our stay. We both agree that we picked the perfect spot. What better way to start your day than drinking coffee on the deck overlooking the harbor. Our place was spacious and comfortable. We had everything we needed.

After a long day of hiking in Acadia National Park (Beehive, Cadillac Mountain and Gorham), riding the ferry to Schoodic or going on a boat tour, the Alone Moose suite was the perfect place to unwind before heading out to dinner. We never had to worry about parking. We walked thorough the town to different spots for dinner. I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a Bar Harbor vacation. Sherry gave us to great tips before we arrived. Thanks for sharing your special place with us.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your suite. It is a joy for us, as long time Bar Harbor residents and members of the creative community, to welcome visitors from around the world. Downtown Bar Harbor is our home….walkable with incredible water views and surrounded by Acadia National Park. There are few places in the US with so much public access to the ocean as there is on our beloved MDI…Mt. Desert Island. We hope to see you again and again!!

Fabulous Fall Foliage in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We booked with Sherry a year in advance and had wonderful phone calls and emails back and forth up until our visit. She helped us greatly both before and when we got to the apartment. The apartment is located optimally near the harbor with a wonderful view of the harbor and Bar Island. The porch is lovely to relax on after a day in Acadia National Park. The king bed is comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could need and more. A spacious refrigerator held all we needed. Housekeeping was topnotch. Lovely artwork on the walls. Sherry was so helpful in giving us advice on what to do during our stay. Lots of pamphlets, maps, etc. were available. We took the Acadia trails map with us to help with our explorations. Sherry thoroughly showed us around the apartment when we checked in. She was quickly available by email during our stay, especially when a smoke alarm needed a new battery and Ivan was there immediately to take care of it. Our stay was everything we hoped for and more. We certainly will return and have already recommended to family to repeat our trip staying in the same apartment.

Owner's Response: One of the joys of owning vacation rentals is sharing our island community and Acadia National Park. These lovely visitors from Florida are great supporters of America's National Treasures and it was our pleasure to host them during their first stay at Acadia. Folks who visit here are surprised to know that the Village of Bar Harbor is totally surrounded by Acadia. We are delighted to hear that they may return with family. Acadia's magic has touched them and if we added to their enjoyment by offering our suite during this spectacular fall, we are please beyond words! We were treated to an e-mail when they crossed the state line to Florida…and we send a big "welcome home"!

What a Lovely Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely stay in Bar Harbor, and Ivan and Sherry's "home away from home" was absolutely perfect for us. The place was impeccably clean, and very spacious. They have really thought of everything you could possibly need and then some. Having a washer and dryer to use right outside the door was very convenient also.

It was great to be able to walk all over Bar Harbor and leave our car safely parked in its designated parking spot. There are many restaurants/bars, and shops right nearby. Thankfully Sherry offered us so many tips and recommendations, or we would have been overwhelmed by all of the choices. She was always just a phone call or email away if we had any questions.

Ivan and Sherry are both so very kind. We really enjoyed meeting them. Thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven with us. We really enjoyed our first visit to Bar Harbor and you made it very easy for us so thank you both.

Owner's Response: We are honored that this PA couple picked us out of all of the many special Bar Harbor accommodations. It is really fun to orient guests on their first visit to our island community and even better to hear that we met their expectations. Bar Harbor has a long history of hospitality and we are pleased to be a part of meeting and greeting special people like Karen and Coleman. We hope to see you again for another island adventure here at Acadia.

Beyond perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in suite #3 and were surprised at how big it was! It was immaculate & had everything we needed for comfort during our stay!! There was a fully equipped kitchen so we could do our own cooking a couple nights (complete with a lobster pot!!), plenty of extra towels & bedding, and even games & movies for a rainy night! The Suite is in a perfect location, close to everything with a beautiful waterfront view!!! There were many great restaurants & shops within blocks and the trail to Bar Island is equally as close! We booked three boat tours, whale & puffin tour, lobster fishing tour & windjammer tour, all were a block or two down from the suite!! Acadia National Park was just a few minutes drive. I cant say enough good things about the location!! There is off street parking too!!

Sherry's hospitality was top notch! She is such a lovely person!! She would send us emails in the weeks before we arrived, of different recommendations, activities & events in the area. We would have missed out on so many fun things had it not been for Sherry's emails!! She was so gracious & accommodating, and helpful on so many levels!! We truly felt like we made a friend in Bar Harbor!!

This suite sits above Sherry's husband Ivan's art gallery, Art on West. His work is incredible & captivating! Definitely check out his paintings!!

When we return to Bar Harbor, without question, we will be staying here again!!! It was a slice of heaven to be able to sit on the deck & watch the tides change or the fog roll out while having my coffee!! We couldn't have asked for a better experience...and at an incredible price!! ~Piper & Doug

Owner's Response: Wow, Piper and Doug, what a lovely review. It was wonderful to meet these two energetic and talented visitors. Sherry was thrilled when she realized that "he" was "the Doug" who for years has taken the most incredible photographs of our island….and other top notch spots around the world. We were happy to host Piper and Doug and give them tips for their holiday. And, we were happy to see them at Art Walk Bar Harbor just after their final night sunset cruise. Thank you and see you next time you are in Maine!

Our ultimate yearly trip

  • 5 of 5

This says it all, 12 years and counting at this apartment the same time every year. My wife and I drive every year from central Missouri 1700 miles to be here. We travel the US every year on trips but this is the only place we come yearly. Many changes we have seen the last 12 years in the area, but our constant is the graceful hospitality of our host and hostess, Ivan and Sherry. Our apartment is always perfect, private with beautiful views. The last couple years we have extended our stay to 2 weeks. Perfect location to walking town shopping, restaurants, oceanside benches and perfect private parking. A must for an enjoyable stay when the boats and busses are arriving. Highly recommend this property for a perfect stay at Bar Harbor. We are now considering a spring trip along with our fall trip. Thank you so very much Sherry for our memories.

Owner's Response: It is a joy for us to have repeat customers like Larry and Karen who drive many miles to stay with us. We strive to make their suite feel like a "home away from home" and are grateful that they are still coming after all of these years. They may even come for a spring '17 trip to share Acadia with family. Thanks, Larry and Karen for your years of business.

Wonderful place-a vacation to remember

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here in July 2016, and when we entered the apartment we were blown away. The pictures on this website do not do it justice. The living room-kitchen area was much larger than expected. As was the bedroom, The balcony provded a wonderful harbor view which we took in every chance we got. The apartment was very well stocked too with everything you could need. All that Bar Harbor has to offer is just steps from the apartment, and Acadia Park is a short drive or take the free Island Explorer buses from town. Sherry was wonderful and gave us great tips on best places to hike and places to eat. we hope to stay there again.
