We have been involved the ARTs in Bar Harbor since the early 1970's. We own galleries and artist studios on the Bar Harbor Waterfront and participate in local ART events such as First Friday ART walks. Ivan, who was once Bar Harbor Harbormaster, has spent most of his life near the ocean in his native Oregon and now on Mount Desert Island which is home to Acadia National Park.
Sherry traveled extensively as an international flight attendant.Though her travels took her to many beautiful destinations, she says that Mount Desert Island, home to Bar Harbor, is truly one of the world's treasures.
The beauty of the island is what drew us to Bar Harbor. The magic of the island will captivate you as well.
Ivan captures the beauty of the Acadia in his watercolors that he sells in his own 'ART on West' and other galleries.
We live right in the Village near our vacation rentals. Bar Harbor is one of Maine's most walkable communities. Like us, our visitors walk or bike into Acadia National Park. A free bus runs from mid-June to mid-October from the Village of Bar Harbor into Acadia National Park and to neighboring Villages. We are often asked if Bar Harbor is near Acadia National Park. The Village of Bar Harbor is surrounded by Acadia National Park and the nearby Bar Island is just a short walk from your suite. Did you know that the 'bar' to Bar Island is the reason for the name of Bar Harbor? You can see Bar Island from your suite. It is one of the islands of Acadia.
We love to share our community and island with visitors from around the world. You check in for your week at our 'ART on West Gallery'. We are there to get you started on a perfect vacation.
Sherry Rasmussen purchased this apartment in 1976
The best feature of the unit is the furnished covered private deck with waterview. You have so much room in the suite. For your convenience there is private, off street parking and the amenities of the world renowned Village of Bar Harbor are all walkable.
Location, location, location. Your suite is located on the West Street Waterfront and close to Bar Harbor's fine restaurants, galleries,
and boating activities. You can watch the horse drawn carriages as they leave and arrive just below your deck. There is a free self guided walking tour called 'Museum in the Streets'. You can jump on the tour at the neighboring Bar Harbor Club or anywhere in town to learn the history of our hometown.
My husband and I wanted a special place to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and we found this listing in Bar Harbor and fell in love with the view in the picture. While the picture is excellent, it does not do justice to the spectacular view of the harbor and down West Street. The location is perfect as we walked everywhere in town. Acadia National Park was only a 5 minute drive and the carriage trails were great and sunset on Cadillac Mountain was breathtaking. Sherry and Ivan were absolutely wonderful to deal with and made us feel welcomed before we even arrived. The history of the area and the beauty is outstanding. There is so much to explore and do in the area and we always started it off with coffee on the balcony in the morning and a drink in the evening after a long day outdoors. You will not find any place to top this one. The apartment is large with a full kitchen if you want a few meals in vs. dining out every day. A washer and dryer was right outside our door so packing was light for the trip. Very comfortable and the décor was inviting ... just made you feel like you were home. Don't pass this apartment up for your trip to Bar Harbor...you will not be disappointed. The owners even has a full binder of information and pamphlets on everything going on in the town. We will definitely return and we will work our dates around the availability of this location!
We have rented from the owners of Artist's Cottage for years and they are wonderful hosts providing very clean and roomy vacation rentals for their guests. This particular rental is roomy and comfortable with full kitchen and washer and dryer. The location is easy walking distance to everything in downtown Bar Harbor, including the park that overlooks the harbor and the shore path. A parking space is provided but one could easily get along without a car here because of the public transportation Bar Harbor offers. Art on West is next door offering fine art for purchase and the Wild Iris shire horses pick up passengers across the street so we hear the clip clop of their entrance to town when they arrive. Bar Harbor is a beautiful vacation area combining forest and ocean all in one. Artist 's Cottage is a home away from home in this magical place!
The location of the apartment was perfect. I absolutely enjoyed waking up to the view of Bar Harbor while drinking my morning coffee. Walking distance to all activities in Bar Harbor. Short drives everywhere else. Very comfortable apartment with all of the conveniences of home. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Bar Harbor!
While this is the date of out latest stay, we have been visiting this Suite for several years. The hosts are always responsive and the property has been upgraded as appropriate over the years. We always enjoy visiting with Ivan and Sherry. This season (2015) we will be extending our visit to four weeks. We highly recommend this property and all that Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and the area have to offer.
This is the date of our latest stay. We have stayed at this property for several years and found it to be a great experience and an outstanding value. The suites have continued to be upgraded over the years. This upcoming season (2015) we will be extending our stay to four weeks. Great responsive hosts.
A little late with the review but have thought often of our stay last summer. The photos are a good replica of what is available. The apartment was very comfortable, having a king sized bed and air conditioning available was a real plus. We loved the view of the harbor every morning. The owners were great hosts and provided valuable information. One of our favorite parts was the simple walk to the island and the private parking spot. This vacation goes down as an all time favorite and we hope to return in the near future. Debi
