Salt Spring Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 7)

If you are looking for a country experience but close to town, this is the place for you. We now have a new great safe walking path that takes you to the quaint village of Ganges in 30 minutes, or choose to drive a short 2 minutes. If you love birds, mountain views, honey bees, chickens, and the idea of sustainability, you will love the cottage. Our egg layers are roaming about and the wild quail nest in the long grasses, and this year we are excited to announce that the eagles are nesting in the tree right across from the cottage, pretty cool! We hope that they have a successful hatching this year.

Eagle View Cottage is perfect for a family vacation or romantic getaway. Guests love the hot tub and gazing at the stars with a glass of wine.

Artists love the amazing back drop of layers of lush green mountain and water views. We are happy to show you our bee hives and extensive gardens where we grow our own food, and happy to allow the children to collect eggs. Truly an eco-sustainable experience!

We are located on the quiet tidal inlet of Booth Canal. The tide comes in twice a day and if sometimes will cooperate with a midday kayak or swim. Sandy Beaches are close by and we can help you find the perfect one to spend the day. Hiking trails are plentiful and we provide a book for you to explore these as well.

The cottage is decorated with a French country flare, and a touch of shabby chic, you will find everything you need is here for a relaxing getaway including 400 square feet of private decking, complete with a large BBQ, and a spectacular south facing view. Truly a home away from home.

A rare estuary, this tidal inlet has some of the best bird watching Salt Spring Island has to offer including eagles, turkey vultures, hawks, blue heron, king fishers, osprey and many more birds. The little quail make this yard their home and are truly entertaining.

Enjoy the new cedar dock just steps from the doorway and warm tidal swims in the summer. Kayaking is awesome year round and we provide the double kayak with life jackets (two).

A large country bathroom with a compact Bosch washer and dryer ensure you will have more time to play!

Sink into the luxurious king bed, topped with a heavenly 4' featherbed and 500 thread count percale sheets. All the beds are cozy and warm with locally made wool duvets and crisp cotton sheets. Cotton blankets are also available for those hot summer nights.

During the evening curl up to the wood stove with a book or enjoy a hot tub while gazing at the stars

The quaint town of Ganges is a short 3 minute drive. While still in the country you close to all amenities including our hospital and clinics.

About kelly

We live next to the cottage property. we love it here! I am a registered massage therapist and my partner is an investment advisor. We strive to practice sustainability, growing our own food and buying locally. We garden on our lot and the cottage upper lot where the sun reaches the property all day. We have enjoy our egg laying chickens, bunnies, honey bee hives, Kai our border collie and two wonderful cats. Kids love helping us to collect the eggs in the morning.

We are fairly active taking advantage of the nearby hiking trails and swim almost every day in the summertime.

We love meeting new guests and enjoy sharing what this great island has to offer including the amazing artisans and all our favourite restaurants.

Restful stay, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen (we made most of out meals ), big bath tub, warm wood stove, nice towels, very quiet, lots of birds to see and we saw an otter on our dock, nice small dock to relax on with a kayak. Would stay again.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I just visited Salt Spring Island for 4 nights. This cottage is everything you could expect. Fully decked out kitchen with a bonus home made jam, tea, coffee, espresso maker, sharp knives (yes!), full set of dishes, serving bowls and platters - we needed nothing more! The BBQ was excellent. And - the beds are very comfortable. There are wool duvets on each bed, soft warm flannel sheets, fluffy pillows and lots of them! The bathroom towels were lovely - absorbant and soft, and boutique soaps. There were 3 sofas so we each had one to lay on to read our books that we brought - however there were lots of books there too as well as games. The hot tub was very enjoyable under the stars! Lionel and Kelly were very prompt at getting back to us when we had a question and they were there when we arrived - wood stove was already going and the place was toasty.

I would love to come back in the summer. There was so much more we wanted to do on Salt Spring. What a beautiful place to unwind. The booking went seamlessly as well. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

Return trip to Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have travelled extensively and prefer to stay in vacation homes around the globe. While we have enjoyed the various places we have visited and stayed, we were never compelled to return to the same spot. That is until we stayed at Eagle view cottage in April. We had such a wonderful stay that we jumped at the opportunity to return for another 4 days in August. The cottage is quaint and comfortable with all the necessities for an enjoyable stay. Even the chickens add to the ambiance. Kelly and Lionel are excellent hosts and were most welcoming and helpful on both visits. Decompressing on the deck over looking the water and watching the meteor shower from the hot tub were highlights of our August visit as was attending a local pitchfork social event, arranged for by Kelly. Contrary to our norm, we will return here again as we love the cottage and Salt Spring Island.

Paradise found!

  • 5 of 5

We found the perfect paradise retreat. Everything about Eagle View, Kelly, Lionel and the chickens was just the most perfect experience in the world. Booking this cottage could not have been easier or more straightforward. From the first telephone conversation with Kelly we knew we would be made to feel very welcome. The cottage itself is amazing. If you are looking for complete relaxation, tranquility, stunning views, peace and great wildlife viewing look no further. The cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly wish for. The hosts Kelly and Lionel do everything to ensure your stay is perfect without being intrusive. The kayak was great fun as was the hot tub. Rarely have we been so emotional leaving any holiday vacation, but so perfect was Eagle View and Salt Spring Island that tears were shed on our departure. Thank you for the most brilliant experience and many treasured memories. We will be back!

Very comfortable cottage on a idyllic island

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Eagle View Cottage for a week (2 adults, 2 children aged 12 and 10) in August. The cottage was all that we had hoped - very clean, just the right size for the 4 of us, very comfortable beds, quiet location but in easy reach of Ganges. The kitchen is well equipped and the chickens outside the kitchen window were great entertainment. We were fortunate that the tide was in early evening when we were there so we made full use at that time of day of the kayak provided. Hot tub was also great though the weather was so good when we were there we really needed a cold tub!

Kelly and Lionel were very kind and helpful hosts. They are just next door and available if you need information or assistance but were never intrusive.

We had a lovely holiday on Salt Spring. There is so much to do and see that you can easily occupy a week here. Also it's rare to find a place with such an open, friendly and welcoming

atmosphere.

This adorable seasonal cottage is a tidal waterfront accommodation located on the sunny tidal inlet of Booth Canal. Truly a bird water's paradise and artist's dream!

Hiking trails, beaches, and the seaside walks are just minutes away. There is a safe walking/biking path along the main road and through the streets to the quaint village of Ganges.

The natural setting of the cottage is eco-friendly with many wild flowers and over grown grasses providing a natural sanctuary for the local habitat. Quail nest in the long grasses and enjoy the fat seed heads that we allow to ripen and self-sow. We even have a 'bug hotel' where we pile rocks and wood that are allowed to naturally break down thus providing a home for local snakes and spiders, which are all beneficial to the garden. The Garter snakes enjoy the rustic grasses too and keep the balance and biodiversity of the property intact

The top of the property closest to the road is used to grow year round vegetables helping us toward our goal of sustainability. We even have a honey bee hive in the upper corner of the property (well away from walkways and drive) aiding in the pollination of the flowers, fruits and vegetables, and of course providing us with beautiful honey! Heritage hens graze on the grass and peck at grass and are really entertaining. They always come and greet the new guests.

When tides are high a kayak is definitely in order. We provide a two seater kayak complete with life jackets and paddles. Toodle around the peaceful canal and quietly watch the wildlife, or venture out past the inlet and explore Baker beach where you can beach comb and enjoy salty swims.

Relaxing on the cedar dock just steps from the cottage is also a great way to see the birds. During the summer months the heron, turkey vultures, osprey, and the king fishers return to nest and feed. We have a nesting pair of eagles that perch in front of the cottage and have successfully hatched offspring this past year. The nest is visible from the cottage deck.

Notes:
Beautiful tidal waterfront with mountain views and many birds. A new private cedar dock and double kayak are just steps from the door. Warm shallow tidal swims in the summertime, and kayaking year round when the tides are high. We provide a double kayak and life jackets for two. Guests will be delighted to know they can walk to the village along a new path to town in half an hour. Morning walks along a trail at the end of our dead end street will take you to baker beach in half an hour. Great to beach comb, oyster beds, great for swims from noon onward as its on the west side of the island. Other beaches require a car to get to, Vesuvius beach is a 5 minute drive and a definite stop. Bader beach is 7 minute drive and best after noon when the sun hits it. Our fav sand bar beach to go to. Beddis beach is 7 minute drive and great in the morning as its on the east side of the island. Fernwood dock is 7 minute drive, great for beach combing. Three fresh water lakes to enjoy too!
