Amazing wooded retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family needed a last minute accommodation for a funeral in Connecticut, in late August. The hotels along the shoreline were booked, but we found this property which was just perfect and fit everyone. It's a spacious home that's beautifully decorated. There are plenty of beds for everyone- we had eight family members sleeping comfortably. Yes, it's far in North Guilford. Just plan ahead. If you're familiar with the area it's about five minutes from Durham. No hardship! We saw deer, bunnies, hummingbirds, and of course the cows that live down the street. Definitely recommend.

A retreat for a natural history writer and family

  • 5 of 5

Ah, what a lovely place: a quiet, peaceful, isolated retreat. The home is spacious and comfortable with everything we needed. Lanna prepared us for the remote location so we came with food and essentials, and then didn't want to leave. We did manage to pull ourselves away for the family wedding that brought us to the East Coast. Afterward s we returned to enjoy the nature: a scarlet tanager from the kitchen window, a pair of Eastern kingbirds feeding their young just outside the dining room, chipmunks in the woods, frogs and fishes in the pond, and wildflowers all around. Absolutely wonderful and a great introduction to those habitats for our little ones.

Tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

The property is beautiful - as is the house. There are two master suites and two smaller bedrooms with single beds. Every room has a view of the woods. You can sit in the kitchen and watch the wildlife. The hostess is accomodating and easy to contact. Loved the stay. I highly recommend.

What makes this house unique

This property is situated on over 40 wooded acres of absolute privacy in the middle of 1100 acres of public forest preserves and designated significant wild life habitat community. It is serenely private, yet still close to civilization. The road is an old stage coach line and was known as the highway to Madison. There was an Inn and tavern on the road and multiple farms evidenced by the rock walls that once surrounded fields throughout the surrounding forest.
