This totally remodeled studio condo (Hanalei Bay Resort, Unit 3105) overlooks beautiful Bali Hai, the pearl of Kauai's North Shore. Watch the surfers on Hanalei Bay as you enjoy a leisurely breakfast sitting on teakwood chairs on the slate covered lanai, then go visit the island sights, but be sure to get back in time for the sunsets!
This studio unit is a one-of-a-kind within the complex! Accessible parking is just a few feet away from this first floor unit. The condo has been totally refurbished and nicely appointed with a modern Polynesian touch. The unobstructed view of Bali Hai is usually described by the guests as breathtaking. The beauty of the unit itself, the view of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai and the accessibility and convenience of this unit make for an unparalleled combination. After a day of sight-seeing you might enjoy soaking in the large hot tub surrounded with travertine tile, or take a shower if that is your style. Two guests are easily accommodated in the unit. The new Simmons BeautyRest Luxury Firm mattress assures a good night’s rest after a busy day of sightseeing (Yes, it looks like a Murphy bed on the picture, but I replaced the bed part with a standard frame, box spring and the new mattress; the Murphy bed was convenient, but we never put it up anyway, and it never was very stable.). Oh, and yes, there are coolers, snorkeling gear (including two sets of the latest Full-Face masks as shown on two of my pics), and some beach toys for the little ones. And I just added an iHome® Kineta Bluetooth® FM Alarm Clock Radio and Speaker for your listening pleasure.
This studio has a small but full kitchen. And, of course, all the counter tops are granite. Air conditioning is only needed once in a while, but it’s there if you need it. Check your email on the free Wi-Fi. A beautiful beach, the Puu Poa beach,shared with the new St. Regis Hotel for great swimming and snorkeling is just a short walk away, about two blocks. And it’s all right in the center of the fabulous Hanalei Bay Resort. Free parking is very near the condo, which is very close to the pool, the guest lounge, and the fabulous Happy Talk lounge which is open from 3-9 pm serving light but outrageously delicious meals. And perhaps best of all, the Ukulele Bar, is the ONLY swim-up pool bar on the island!

And for those of you who have read my reviews—good news! I have increased your options for storing your clothes and things, BUT, if you are staying more than a few days, and you like to unpack and put your then items in a spacious dresser, you will be disappointed.
NOTE: This is a Studio, is does NOT have a separate bedroom. It has a bathroom, a full kitchen, and a large room with a sofa, a queen-size bed, and a dining area with table and four chairs. One of the photos shows how the condo is configured.
And finally, I reluctantly need to inform you of two fees: First, the resort charges a $20/daily Resort Fee collected upon checkout, and Secondly, in case you didn’t notice it, VRBO/HomeAway charges a 5-10% Service Fee. Sorry, about these.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Your deposit is refundable if notice is given 60 days before your arrival. If less than 60 days before your arrival, it depends on my luck in re-renting the condo: If successful, you get a full refund. If I 'm partially successful, you get whatever I can collect. Yes, this is the most generous policy I have seen!

Audrey and I live in Sacramento, and spend as much time as possible in Kauai. We had a nice condo in building 2 at HBR but Audrey wanted (OK, insisted on!) a better view of the waves rolling in so we bought this unit in 2006, and have been very pleased with the view of the surf and of Bali Hai. The sellerr was just in the process of totally remodeling it, and we think he did a nice job.

Stunning views in a beautiful resort
The most beautiful resort we have stayed at. We spent 25 days in Dale's 500 sqft condo with a small kitchen and loved it. We cooked almost all meals there and even cooked for 4 on many nights. The view is magnificent. We wondered when we got there if we could get used to the small space but after about 2 days, we were sold on it. Dale was a superb host.

Highly recommend this property. We thought the resort was awesome! Great staff and amenities. Location was perfect for visiting the North shore. Grocery shopping very close and we ate all our meals on the lanai! The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking pans and utensils. It was really nice to have a dishwasher. The bed was extremely comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was to die for!
AVOID! THIS PLACE IS A DUMP
Owner spends plenty of time writing about the place and not enough time fixing the unit that is in disrepair. The bed is topped with a urine-stained marshmallow mattress and the bath tub is falling apart (finish coming off and floating in the tub). The dishwasher was broken and the owner was too cheap to replace it, or even inform us before we arrived. This was a real problem because the small bar sink in the kitchenette was too small to wash dishes and pans. It made it difficult to cook our own meals at the condo so we were forced to dine out more than we would have chosen to. There were light fixtures broken, light bulbs burned out, broken shelves, paint peeling, and an outdated VCR, but no DVD player that worked. When I contacted the owner to let him know that the place was not in reasonable condition, he agreed that he had not taken adequate care of the unit and offered me a $20.00 per night discount. The resort is old and tired. There is only one hot tub for the whole resort which was packed every time we tried to use it. The pool was closed 2 of the 5 days were were visiting and wi-fi did not work one full day while we were there. The gym equipment is rusted and ancient and there is no room to stretch out or do floor work in the tiny exercise room. To be fair, the unit has a great view of Hanalei Bay in the distance visible from the small patio. Also be aware that there is a $20/day resort fee which is collected at check out. This accommodation was extremely disappointing. It negatively affected our experience on the North Shore.
I would like to thank you for that review, but you’ll forgive me if I don’t since it is primarily a collection of lies and exaggerations. I do thank you for the opportunity to have avoided this review by refunding most of your fees. Perhaps I should have taken your offer, but I do believe that most folks will not pay too much attention to a 1-star review when most of the other 71 reviewers gave me five stars! For the sake of prospective guests, I will respond to each of the allegations.
First, the bed. As you can see on the photos, it was a Murphy bed which has now been replaced by a regular queen size bed with box spring and a 14-inch mattress. It’s a Simmons Beauty Rest Silver, Comfort Gray, Luxury Firm Summit Pillow Top (Yes, they make a lot of different beds!). And no, there were no pee marks on the old mattress!
o It is true that the Whirlpooltub was starting to peel. I had great difficulty getting a new tub, and even more difficulty getting it installed, but it’s done—Yay! And it’s a beautiful ten-jet Whirlpool tub. You’ll love it.
o My almost new dishwasher broke and I had great difficulty getting the parts to repair it. The good news is that the repairman came shortly after this guest left and the dishwasher is now working like new!
o The reviewer is right about the sink-it’s ridiculously small! (but you quickly get used to it).
o When we came into the unit right after they left there was one dead light bulb over the dining table which housekeeping would have been glad to replace. There were no broken light fixtures, broken shelves, or peeling paint!
o Yes, I did refund the reviewer $20 per night. I was hoping that it would make him feel a bit better. It apparently didn’t.
o It’s also true that the main pool was shut down for a couple of days. I don’t know why but it hardly ever happens. He could have walked a few yards to the second pool of course, but…And yes, there is just one large outdoor Jacuzzi. We just returned from Kauai and can say there hardly ever more than two or three people enjoying it, but that may depend on the time of day.
o We were in the resort at the time; I can assure you the WiFi was NEVER out!
o I think my online photo of the nice new fitness center answers that issue.
o The patio is 8 x15 feet. I’ll let you decide if that is small. I do know it is definitely as large as the typical patio in Kauai.
o Yes, there is a resort fee which I warn folks about on the website and then again in the acceptance letter.
Overall property was excellent. Condo itself was very nice. Only hiccup was mattress was way too soft.
Thanks for your short but gracious review. Yes, the bed is (was) very soft; I was trying to compensate for a mattress that was a tad too firm, and I think I over-did it! Speaking of how people have different tastes, I was amused to receive a note from the guest who stayed in the condo immediately after you saying the bed was like “sleeping on a cloud!” Nevertheless, since the Murphy bed had other issues, I have now replaced it with a regular bed and a new Simmons BeautyRest Silver Luxury Firm mattress. And it's wonderful! My wife and I have been sleeping on it over a week now and we both love it! So while I don’t appreciate 4-star reviews I have to thank you for spurring me into action.

Great location within the resort. Close to parking, pool, tennis and everything. The only bummer was the sign on the dishwasher saying it was out of order. Vacations are when you don't want to do dishes. Wonderful resort amenities. The Happy Talk lounge being open is so wonderful.
Thanks so much for that nice review. I am very sorry that my almost new dishwasher is out of commission. Just for the record, I paid $252 to a repair service only to discover that the parts needed for repair were on back order. The good news, for future guests, is that the parts just came in yesterday, so with any luck it will be up and running shortly. The other good news, at least for me, is the way in which most folks rolled with this problem so well, claiming it was no big deal. These would be my sentiments exactly, since I actually enjoy washing dishes, even to the point of washing them thoroughly before putting them in the dishwasher at home, which only shows how harmlessly amusing some neurotics can be!
