Great cottage on beautiful Cobbossee Lake in Manchester, Maine. The cottage has one bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. There is also a pullout couch in the downstairs living area. The cottage has a fully applianced kitchen, cable TV, pellet stove, gas grill, and a washer and dryer. Cobbossee is a nine mile long lake that is well known for its world class bass fishing. The lake has many small islands and coves to explore, so take advantage of our three Old Town kayaks or bring your own boat and tie up to our new aluminum dock. There are three granite steps that lead into the water for small children or jump off the end of the dock and swim to our 10 ft. X 10 ft. floating swim raft. Augusta and Hallowell offer great shopping and restaurants and Freeport outlet stores are a 30 minute drive.
Our family of 6 has stayed at Lori and Ben's lakeside property on two separate occasions (repeat customers, that says something!), and each time we come away feeling like it was well worth the trip from Florida for the memories made. The home is in a terrific location of the lake with sunset's to enjoy and a waterfront that is somewhat unique with a small walk in beachfront. Inside the home my wife really likes the decorating and to me it feels like a well built renovated home/cottage. While the home is not the biggest it has everything we wanted and made for a worthwhile investment. If you can rent a boat (Belgrade Boat Shop) and get out on the lake than all the more memorable!
We stayed at the cottage for a 3 day weekend and it was exactly what we were looking for. The cottage is immaculate, with great views and quiet surroundings. We did not use the kitchen or laundry facilities to speak of as we were only there a few short days. The dock was convenient to tie up our pontoon rental. There is a small outdoor patio and fire pit which if we had more time we would have used but after boating/fishing all day and driving to Hallowell for dinner we did not have enough time. There were a few granite steps leading into the lake in front of the cottage and the water was crystal clear, clean and inviting. The lake, as usual, was hypnotic and un-crowded (so stay away! LOL). Both my husband and I caught fish each day, including the biggest Pike we have ever seen.
This is an ideal cottage for a small family (sleeps up to 6) and I would highly recommend it. Good location, nice owners and beautiful lake that is close enough to all the conveniences you could ask for.
We stayed at this cottage again this year (we stayed last year) and had another terrific week. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed for a great stay. Lori and Ben were very helpful- the gas grill ran out of propane and within an hour, they had sent their son by to go refill the tank. They also recommended some good local restaurants as well. The cottage is a great place to stay, and we absolutely love Lake Cobbossee! We did alot of fishing, swimming and used the kayaks too. Look forward to another stay next year!
My family just returned from a week long stay at this cottage. The place is very nice and had all the amenities we were looking for. The pics on the listing have mostly winter shots and don't do it justice - it's beautiful in the summer! When I called and talked to Lori about booking the place for a week, she was very down to earth and very easy to deal with. We arrived and the place was clean and ready for our stay. We have 3 kids and 2 dogs and they all loved the place and want to return! Lake Cobbossee is said to have fantastic fishing (I'm an avid bass fisherman) and I wasn't disappointed! I caught too many fish to count, including my 2 biggest bass yet this year, and I've fished many places. All the kids caught fish, too. The lake is fantastic! The cottage had everthing we needed inside and out. We would (and will) definitely stay here again- hopefully 2 weeks next time! We met Lori and her husband right before we left- they were very nice to talk to. Hope to rent from them again. Great time!
This was our first trip to Maine and it will most certainly not be our last!! The cottage was perfect for our family of 4…the lake absolutely beautiful. We were able to dock our boat and head out early in the morning for some excellent fishing. Our kids (ages 20 and 22) took advantage of the kayaks. Listening to the loons while sitting by a campfire in the evening rounded out our days. We had beautiful weather the entire week and when the end was upon us, we didn't want to leave…unfortunately, the kids had to return to college. The owner was very pleasant and only a phone call away for any question we had. It was a very peaceful and relaxing week…a wonderful vacation.
We loved this Lakeside Cottage. It was attractive, cozy and very clean. Everything we needed for meal preparation was easy to find. Our hosts dropped by to ensure that we knew how to work the pellet stove since nighttime lows were in the 40's. It was great to have an easy "fire" to take the chill off in the evening. Everything about this cottage was well planned. The view of the lake was beautiful especially the sunsets each evening. The cottage had all the "toys" necessary for a lake vacation. Kayaks let us explore. There was a small dock and a swimming platform. The fish were eager to play "catch and release."
Location, Location and Location is a popular phrase when talking about a home. This house was located in an area with terrific antiques. Scenic New England Towns were everywhere. Hallowell was a fun place to shop and had several interesting restaurants. We enjoyed dinner at Joyce's in Hallowell. Everything we had was perfect. Our Cottage Hosts suggested a local Butcher Shop for meats and seafood. The steaks were top notch. Two lovely Maine Lobsters came home with us and were fabulous.
Nighttime at the cottage was very special. We turned out our lights and sat on the deck to enjoy the stars. It has been years since we've seen the Milky Way because of light pollution. It was center stage at the cottage. The evening quiet was only broken by the Loons calling as they gathered for their annual migration. "Spot the Loon" was a popular pass time as we drank our morning coffee. It is quite a challenge to track a fishing Loon. It dives underwater and swims for long distances to find a meal. The direction of the dive has little to do with the point where the Loon emerges.
If you come during the summer, remember the house is just a few steps from the Lake. Kids should be able to swim and be willing to wear Life Jackets. I do not think that you'd be able to get them away from the water on warm sunny days. Even the family dog should have a life jacket since they seem to enjoy chasing kayaks. Remember this is a large Maine Lake. There are no life guards.
The Greater Augusta area offers many nearby attractions such as museums, drive in theater, the mid coast area (Boothbay Harbor), antique shopping, and several excellent restaurants.
Any rates before Memorial Day and after Labor Day are negotiable.
