On beautiful Smith Mountain Lake, Witcher Way Lakehouse is situated on the clean, quiet, no wake, Cedar Key Cove of Witcher Creek just a short float away from the excitement and activity of the main lake. Relax and enjoy the views and tranquility of this quiet Wildlife Preserve and protected State Forest area from the porch, the deck, or many of the windows of the new, open three-bedroom lake house. This light, airy and comfortable house sleeps up to six with two full baths, a lovely kitchen and great-room area over a basement level that great for play: sports a dart board, ping pong and air hockey tables, and leads out to a full patio that stretches the length of the house and overlooks the paved walkway to the boathouse and water.
There is a paved pathway leading to the secluded deep water dock. The clean, deep water is great for boating, fishing, swimming, jumping off the dock, or just floating, relaxing and sun bathing. The dock offers sun and shade options for lounging, bird watching, or snoozing on the lounge chairs as you watch the water float by with no concern for boat wakes to toss you about.
Anglers should note that the cove is the Striper spawning area. Great Spring fishing here!
As we took trips and visited this area, we found it so quiet and relaxing! A great place to get away from the chaos that is Northern Virginia. You can literally feel your blood pressure drop and your to-do list dissolve as you ride the back, country roads to the lake. We built this home for ourselves, never really planned on renting it. Sometimes the best intentions don't materialize and we can't visit as often as we'd like - that thing called work gets in the way! It's built, furnished, and decorated for comfort and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!
Read the comments and you will see this home is not set up with your typical 'rental home' furnishings.
The quite 'no wake' cove makes it great for swimming and our deep water cove is nice no matter the level of the lake. When you are ready for water sports the main channel of the lake is a 5 minute no wake boat ride away.
Dear 2011 Witcher Way Guests,
We are so grateful for all of your comments in our house guestbook. Since Home Away no longer allows guests to post online comments without registering their emails, we hope you won’t mind that we have transcribed them for online viewers to read. [and hope you’ll forgive any typos and errors to names!] We know that the path from the house to the water is the challenge for some guests and appreciate everyone’s good-natured comments! We too feel it is great exercise and worth the benefits of the deep, clear water a steep lot provides. New for owners and visitors alike this year is the fresh asphalt, which as of August, makes the walk much easier! Again, we thank our visitors for demonstrating their appreciation of the personal comforts we provide at Witcher Way by always treating it as gently as they would their own.
Gorgeous home, gorgeous view, and couldnt suggest it any other way than to recommend you see it for yourself!
Our first visit to smith mountain lake and we could not have stayed in a more beautiful home. The Brenners have obviously put a lot of thought, time, and attention to detail into this property and it shows. The house was immaculate and beautifully decorated. All the reviews I read prior to staying were extremely accurate. This is the perfect lake house get away. We took advantage of everything the property had to offer canoeing in the lake, paddle boarding, dinners on the deck overlooking the beautiful views, ping pong and scattegories in the evenings. FYI the bottom floor has a game room with ping pong table, air hockey ect....much open space and LOTS of room to hang out. We actually wished we had brought our corn hole set, you could literally play indoors. I will mention what some of the other reviews stated about the walk from the house to the lake..its a workout! It would not deter us from staying again and I think its worth it to have the beautiful views the home has. We hope to come back again next year!
Such a gorgeous house! A lot of attention went into all the little details. Our boys, 8&10, loved playing on the wii and especially loved the paddle boards. The dock is perfect with sun beds and a fridge. We would just spend the whole day down there. We had such a lovely time!!
The house and furnishings are beautiful, well maintained and very clean. The lake views, the privacy, the solitude were wonderful. The lake is gorgeous and great to swim in - the water is very clear. The owners go out of their way to provide little extras in the house - thank you for the welcoming bottle of wine!
My husband and I visited in June for our anniversary. Our first visit to this lake and it did not disappoint. The location is very quiet. At the dock we literally did not see a single soul and being across from the wildlife preserve was an added bonus. No lake noise with the no wake zone was much appreciated. The house was spotless and exactly as pictured, very spacious and extremely well-equipped (probably more cookware & flatware than our own home). We have rented homes around the world and without a doubt, this was the best equipped. The deck was very nice and again, we did not see or hear anyone, which we enjoyed. We did limit our "hikes" to the water but having a covered deck and refrigerator was great. We rented a powerboat for a few days and really enjoyed docking it there. Finally, the owner was very responsive especially when we accidentally locked ourselves out and forgot the code, ugh. Communication with him was efficient and easy. We would recommend this lakefront home to anyone, but make sure you are in good physical condition to handle the walk to the water.
Fabulous sums it up!!! We were welcomed to a very clean and beautifully maintained home. The Brenners have not missed a thing, even down to the scotch tape.
When we arrived, we were welcomed to a spotless home thanks to Sandy, The Brenner's housekeeper. It's so nice to enter a home this clean. They've even offered a bottle of red or white wine as a welcoming gift. The kitchen had everything you'd expect to need. Exceptional cookware, very nice flatware (and plenty of it) and utensils, plenty of dish-ware, and modern appliances. The beds are very comfortable, and there is plenty of seating in both the dining area and the living area for all guests. In the evenings, we'd play board games around the kitchen table or we'd go down to the basement to make use of the ping-pong table or air-hockey table. For those evenings where you just don't have any energy left because you played too hard during the day, The Brenners have an extensive DVD movie library to pick from for just a relaxing evening. There's also a good cable/dish package, so just watching something on TV is also a good option. There's even a Wii, but bring your own favorite games (2 remotes are provided).
As others have noted, the climb back up from the lake is not for the faint of heart, but The Brenners have provided a good-sized refrigerator at the dock to keep items cold, and this helps avoid unnecessary climbs back to the house for food or beverages. We brought down food & drinks each day, and then basically went up at lunch and then again at the end of the day.
The home is in a wildlife refuge, so if you visit, we're sure you'll see plenty of deer as we did, even in the front yard. One additional perk, is that the home is located on a no-wake cove, so it is very quiet even hanging out on the dock, and makes it safe to paddle about the cove using the canoe or paddle boards that the Brenner's have provided for their guests to use. If you visit in the fall, the home faces Smith Mtn, so you'll probably see the beautiful foliage as the leaves start to change colors.
Overall, we had a great time and would recommend this home for a "fabulous" family vacation.
