Overview

Southwest Michigan Cottage Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Situated on 5 private acres and overlooking 250 feet of private beach, our cottage provides a wonderful setting for a great vacation. Enjoy the view of the lake from the cottage, from the new deck or walk down the steps to the beach. No roads, woods or 'short walks' to the beach. This spectacular cottage lets the lake embrace you. Lake Michigan is so large (120 miles wide and 350 miles long) that it feels like the ocean without the salt water and sharks! The water is usually warm in the summer for swimming, sometimes calm as glass and other days with huge rolling waves. Walking miles is a favorite pastime...so is hanging out under the umbrellas. Building sand castles, splashing in the waves, enjoying campfires and reading in the hammock are just some of the joys of being at the 'big lake'. Picnics on the deck, chasing fireflies into the evening, watching an unforgettable sunset with friends and family...this is what connects us and what wonderful memories are made of.

Venturing away from the beach, you can visit Saugatuck or South Haven, each about 10 minutes away, or other little villages nearby. There you will find shopping, galleries and fun and funky restaurants. Playing golf is easy on one of the many area courses. Bicycling on trails or country roads has also become very popular. A summer highlight is visiting the outdoor farmer's markets in Saugatuck or Holland which offer up the rich bounty of the area. Picking your own blueberries, raspberries, peaches or apples is always a highlight with young and old alike. Boat rentals for sailing, motor boating or fishing are nearby. Windsurfers and wave runners are also available to rent.

In any season, you can experience the wonder of Lake Michigan.

Great times are waiting for you. Come stay at the cottage and share a piece of our private paradise.

About Elizabeth Griffiths

We grew up in Michigan enjoying Lake Michigan. We moved to Colorado in 1968 and missed the water so we found this land with a little cottage on it. We vacationed there for many summers with our family. In 1995 we built the present cottage, adding the deck and covered gazebo last year. The cottage holds many dear memories of time spent with family and friends. Many others have stayed at the cottage over the years and each has signed a rock which we have displayed in the living room reminding us of all the good times shared there.

Elizabeth Griffiths purchased this cottage in 1971

Why Elizabeth Griffiths chose Southwest Michigan

The cottage offers a comfortable and beautiful space to feel closer to nature and enjoy friends and family or find a place for solitude. Relax in hammock or on the deck or kayak, paddle board or swim in glorious Lake Michigan. Enjoy spectacular sunsets and star filled skies.

Amazing! Great Weekend Away!

  • 5 of 5

This property is great! We had an awesome time and the house was very accommodating. The kitchen and living room are large and great for a group to relax. The backyard is large and very open. The sunsets were perfect and the scenery was beautiful. The house is secluded and was a great escape. The pictures do not do this place justice - it was spectacular!

Beth (the owner) was very easy to work with and responded promptly.

Overall, I would highly recommend this house and we all hope to come back one day :)

MAGNIFICENT !

  • 5 of 5

This cottage (home) is magnificent. Incredibly well appointed. Everything you would need, you will find it. Inside, outside, topped off with spectacular views of Lake Michigan. If you care to leave this serene setting, town is minutes away; with great restaurants and delicious deli's (Farmhouse Deli- was our favorite, they will prepare meals via casserole dishes for you). Three of us at a time, were able to cook in the well appointed kitchen, set a beautiful table --while the fireplace crackled and music played. A delightful setting, on the serene grounds, with the spectacular backdrop of breathtaking Lake Michigan. Thank you Beth.

Beach, Bocce Ball, Best Family Time EVER!

  • 5 of 5

We planned a midwest family reunion and couldn't have been happier with this beautiful accommodation! It was large and formal and clean and wonderfully decorated and at the same time so comfortable and down to earth that we felt immediately at home! Everything was ready for us! The bocce ball court became our meeting area, adirondacks waited for us to sit and enjoy happy hour over the lake, the kayak was ready at the beach, ping pong table and hammock beckoned and so many sitting areas...we could hardly find time to enjoy each one! But we did! Weather cooperated beautifully! Sunsets were dazzling! Puzzles and breezes in the screened in porch, cooking together in the wonderful kitchen, enlightening dinners at the large dining table and hours of chatting in the living room! The Master bedroom has a wonderful view of lush forest (and even a view of some foxes!) and the other downstairs bedroom opens to the lake on every side! Between the moon at night reflecting on the lake and the sunfilled mornings with birds chirping, we didn't even want to waste time on sleep! Hard to do, though, because the beds were so comfortable! Pictures don't do this home justice! It's just amazing! So lucky to have had this time! And now, planning to put in a bocce ball court at home! So much fun!!! Thank you Beth for being so flexible with our timing!

Gorgeous, Cozy, Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

I just stayed here with 6 of my friends for the second year in a row... this place is fabulous. Kitchen is perfect for cooking together, living area is perfect for a cozy fire. View of Lake Michigan is AMAZING. We shopped in Douglas & Saugatuck, and visited the Petter Winery, which is charming. This is a beautiful, well maintained, and clean home. While the photos are beautiful, they do not do the home justice. It is a perfect, peaceful getaway! Nothing like hearing the waves of Lake Michigan lull you to sleep!

Perfection

Our group of four ladies enjoyed an extended fall weekend at this idyllic home. The photos do not do justice to this spacious, private, immaculate, comfortable, and beautiful home. We cannot wait to stay here again!

Family Reunion Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family stayed at this beautiful property this past summer over the 4th of July week. It was wonderful for three generations, with plenty of space, bathrooms, and extremely family friendly. Being just a short walk down the hill to Lake Michigan, we spent a great deal of time at the beach. The outdoor space was phenomenal, with an arbored eating area just above a large deck which was cantilevered over the bluff above the lake.

The interior of the home was beautifully decorated, immaculate, with a fully equipped kitchen, games, books--literally everything we could possibly need for a totally enjoyable stay. We spent a great deal of time on the screened porch where the children played games and made crafts, while the adults often talked and caught up on reading.

Since the home is located a few minutes drive from Saugatuck/Douglas, it was easy access for lunch and shopping. Crane's Apple Orchard was close enough for us to get our "pie fix" several times during the week.

It was a wonderful way to connect with our Seattle relatives, and everyone agreed it was an extraordinary stay in a lovely setting.

Our only difficulty was almost no cell phone reception, but that was a small price to pay for the incredible time we had there. I would recommend this lovely property with no reservations.

Inside, coziness and connection abound. A screened-in porch invites an evening glass of wine, family games and conversation. The living/dining room boasts 7 sets of French doors opening to the lake on one side and to private woods on the others. Turn the music u, open the doors and dance on the patio. Or light a fire, cozy up on a couch and take in the beauty seen from every window. The kitchen invites participation with a central island and lots of counter space. Preparing meals can become a communal affair. Dark wide plank floors, white walls, antiques and spectacular cottage furnishings have all been carefully chosen so that you feel like you are in a cottage, but a very comfortable one. Special amenities include a hot/cold outdoor shower for rinsing off beach sand, a regulation bocce ball court on the bluff, a hammock overlooking the lake, shady and open deck areas, blue and white striped towels and straw beach hats in abundance.
