Welcome to our mews house, a beautiful architect designed family home in Notting Hill . This is very much a loved home full of character and interesting artifacts from around the world and is light, airy and comfortable. (The house has very high ceilings which is uncommon for a mews house) ,a newly refurbished property over three floors (2640 square feet) with all the facilities one could wish for.
The house is in a safe and quiet conservation area in a private, gated, cobbled mews, a convenient seven minute walk to the bustling Portobello Road where the famous Portobello Antiques Market takes place on Saturdays, the daily open air market where you can buy fresh flowers and food, and plenty of great restaurants and cafés.
Westfield shopping mall (Europe's largest) and Shepherd's Bush Central Line station is 5 minutes away. Latimer road underground station is a 3 minute walk and Ladbroke Grove Underground station is only 5 minutes walk, and there’s a frequent bus service within a 2 minute walk that takes you to Oxford Street and the West End, (London’s theater district). Of course, we have a local taxi company that can take you anywhere at the drop of a hat!
A nearby bus service will take you to the famous City of Oxford in only one hour.
The ground floor level of the house has an oak-floored open living, dining and kitchen space with a Pantry and Utility / Laundry room. Under-floor heating throughout and a wood-burning stove make it warm and inviting.
It has a well-equipped hi spec kitchen with a professional range cooker, American style fridge/freezer (with ice maker) and separate wine fridge. The double height dining area has a long glass topped contemporary table with Charles Eames dining chairs and an open wood burning fireplace. There are also 2 Stokke highchairs should you require them, (We have a baby set for one of them).
The bed configuration is as follows:
On the first floor, (floor above ground) we have:
Bedroom 1: Bunk beds(2 X Full size single beds with a single pull out underneath) 3 singles in total, 36 in × 75 in / 91 cm × 190 cm). (Sleeps 3)
Bedroom 2: Kingsize bedroom (60 in × 78 in / 150 cm × 200 cm) (sleeps 2)
On the same floor we then have an upstairs sitting / tv room with a double sofa bed, (54 in × 75 in / 140 cm × 190 cm). (Sleeps 2)
On the second floor:
Bedroom 3: Single (36 in × 75 in / 91 cm × 190 cm) that converts to a Kingsize (60 in × 78 in150 cm × 200 cm) (sleeps 2)
Master suite: Master suite with Kingsize bed (60 in × 78 in / 150cms x 200cms). Sleeps 2)
We also have a folding guest bed that would be suitable for a child/ teenager and could be put in any of the bedrooms.
Floor by floor:
The first floor has two bedrooms, (one with a King-size bed and the other with twin beds and a pull out bed underneath, a beautiful spacious bathroom (a “wet room” with under-floor heating, an amazing rain shower and a beautiful roll top bath), a further Bedroom / TV room with double sofa bed, with satellite TV and a DVD, (with an extensive collection of DVD’s for those “stay at home” days when you’re walked off your feet) and of course WiFi.
The second floor comprises a master suite with a King-size bed, en suite bathroom, (also a “wet room” with under-floor heating, powerful shower, roll top bath), a dressing room and a further bedroom with a single bed that converts into a Kingsize bed and also a Stokke crib / cot if required.
The house is incredibly child friendly, we know how difficult it is to travel with children and slip quickly into a routine when you arrive somewhere new! We have plenty of books and toys and there are stair-gates and baby monitors in the bedrooms should you require them. If you're travelling with children you won't need to bring a thing other than their favourite snuggly!
Towels and linen are included and of course the house is carefully cleaned before each rental. Additional linen is available by arrangement and maid service during the rental period can be provided at guests' own cost for a modest fee. Our housekeeper lives round the corner and is on hand to deal with any emergencies as am I.
We can also provide you with a reliable babysitting service if desired, many of our guests make use of this and have been delighted with the sitters.
We provide a house file filled with useful information so you can quickly get to grips with where everything is, not only in the house but our preferred restaurants and services in the area. There are also plenty of travel guide books.
The accommodation is enormously flexible. As there are bedrooms on all floors, guests can base themselves in separate areas if 2 families are travelling together for instance. The beds are of the highest quality, and so are the showers: guests often write appreciative notes about these. All the bedrooms are quietly appointed, so there should be little to disturb your sleep.
The house is a beautiful, practical and peaceful place to escape and enjoy London's hustle and bustle, our guests have told us that they enjoyed ' the luxury of a hotel whilst feeling a part of London life.'
I offer a personalised service and am on hand to offer advice whenever needed. This isn't a soulless holiday rental, this is a family home which will become your home from home.

I am a freelance cinematographer and live in London with my partner and two beautiful daughters, (7 and 9 years).
Katie Swain purchased this house in 2004
I have lived in this area for 20 years and never get tired of what it has to offer. The local amenities around Portobello are exceptional, the restaurants extremely good and varied , (we have The Ledbury a Michelin 2* restaurant just up the road), the public transport links (bus and underground train) are nearby and frequent and the area is extremely safe.
Our property is in popular Notting Hill, a bustling and vibrant location with theaters, museums and restaurants within easy reach. The spacious and well equipped house is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a hard days exploring, it's secure, cozy, and the house is south - facing making it light and airy. A table and chairs on the cobbled, gated private road outside means you can while away the summer evenings outside watching the children play, glass of wine in hand. We also have a barbeque. A real home from home.
Thank you for opening your terrific house to be rented- it made our trip! We had a lovely time cooking in the kitchen and our daughter LOVED the toys. Thank You!!
Fabulous home in great location. It was our first time in London with my husband, 3 teenagers (2 boys and 1 girl), and 3 grandparents. We have stayed in many homes in Europe via VRBO and AB&B and found this home to be the most well stocked. After our long trip it was nice to have a few eggs, milk, bread, and beer provided for us. Very kind and thoughtful! The owner is readily available if any issues arise during the stay, which there weren't any. Very clean home. The kitchen had all the amenities one can ask for. Bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor so not for the mobile impaired. My mom who uses a cane and wheelchair at times slept on the 1st floor couch where she was very content and comfortable. Home is well situated for public transportation. Oyster cards are a necessity and the home provided 5 such cards for you to top off. My husband and I as well as the kids found bikes the best mode of transportation around and into Kensington Gardens. I recommend catching a play. We saw The Spoils, excellent! Portobello Market also a must and just down the street. Santos for mexican also very good. I would highly recommend this home. Thank you to Katie and family!
My husband and I traveled with 7 students (teens - 3 guys, 4 girls) to London on a study tour and stayed for 6 days in late May. The home is truly remarkable - both stylish and home-y. Stay here: You will find space to stretch out, sofas that invite naps, comfortable beds, wonderful baths in a leafy, quiet neighborhood within 5-7 minutes walk to 2 tube stations, and super convenient options for grocery shopping.
The spaces are thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed. As a side note, I left with a serious case of kitchen envy. (It allows 5-6 adults to work together comfortably!) The full-size washer and dryer are incredibly convenient when traveling light. In short, the home is exactly as advertised, and Katie and her husband are friendly, responsive, responsible and kind. Our first day in London, we had a student fall ill. I texted Katie to ask a question, and ended up being walked through the process of the local urgent care clinic. This was typical of all communications with her over the months of planning: prompt and helpful. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience!
The house is spacious on the ground floor with a large modern, efficient kitchen that has all the props. The Master Suite is awesome, privacy, the bathroom and water pressure in the showers are fabulous. it was very well equipped on all floors.
The house is in a small gated area, which made for some additional safety and comforts like leaving the door open. The gate can be a bit tricky as it is magnetic, but once through you will have it mastered.
For the size, it represented a great value. We rented bikes and got around on two wheels all within the neighborhood. Portobello Street a five minute walk made for some fun and good exploring.
The linens and towels were of a high quality that made sleeping comfortable. The upper rooms get warm in mid day and can be a bit warm early in the evening. We had great weather.
Overall a comfortable home that can serve many generations and different families.
Our family of 8 had a wonderful time staying at this lovely house this week. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. There was plenty of space for all of us. The Tube was very convenient and we easily made our way all over London. Katie provided so much helpful information about the house, the neighborhood, things to do in London, even where to get cupcakes for our daughter's birthday (Hummingbird Bakery was fantastic!). She truly thought of everything! Thanks so much. We highly recommend the house.
I feel that I can only echo what has already been said about Katie and the property. The three story town home was perfect for our two family, six children vacation. Everyone had enough space to be separate. The bathroom was quite large. The kitchen was perfect for eating breakfast in before a day of sightseeing. The short walk to the Underground, or the bus stop just a few steps away from the door, got us wherever we wanted to in London or beyond. I may have had a little trouble finding the restaurants others mentioned, but it was not a problem. I cannot rate this highly enough, and the price was better than if we shared 3 or four hotel rooms.
My family of six had the pleasure of staying at this unique and perfectly-situated property in April. We were very happy with the responsiveness of Katy from the first inquiry through the conclusion of our stay. The home is a short walk from two tube stations and numerous bus routes are just steps away as well. The property was clean, well-maintained, private, and full of finds from around the world making it feel extra welcoming. Upon arrival the notebooks of maps, menus, and recommendations made our meal planning and sightseeing extra easy. We walked to grocery stores, restaurants, bars, banks, and shopping -- all no more than a few blocks in any direction. The nearby Portobello Road area is eclectic and interesting for visitors of all ages and this home is just a few blocks from this famous London landmark. We would clearly recommend this property to travelers looking for a fantastic experience in the Notting Hill/Kensington area.
