SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!!! Come enjoy our cottage nestled in the Manistee National Forest on the north shore, sunny side, of upper Hamlin Lake. The cottage is only 8 years old with like new furnishings and is very neat and CLEAN. You will enjoy a panoramic view of the entire upper lake and awesome sunsets over the dunes right from shore. Icefishing is great right out in front of the cottage. Snowmobiling out your back door is also possible. Skiing, hiking, wine tasting, wildlife viewing and other fun activities are waiting just for you! There is also a lakeside firepit for your enjoyment on those cold winter nights and lots of stars to see. Lake Michigan is minutes away for even more fall and wintertime adventures. Or, for those who like more physical activity, bring your cross country skis for the miles of trails in the National Forest. If you would like or are ready for peaceful, quiet surroundings, this is the place for you. It is so quiet here in the winter, you can hear the snow landing on your head! This cottage sleeps 5, at least 16 years old, and is fully equipped for your every need. It all awaits you at The Shadows on Hamlin Lake. We live on the property, adjacent to this cottage which is approximately 200 feet from the waters edge.

About Deb Hulst

I was raised on Hamlin Lake and have always loved it here. Our family came to the cottage for every family vacation, enjoying the wildlife, fishing, swimming, walks in the woods, climbing trees, feeding the swans, enjoying a glass of wine by the fire, and the list goes on and on. Now it is time to share this with others. We moved to the lake in 2000 and now live on the property year round. Your cottage is approximately 200' from the lakeshore.

Deb Hulst purchased this cottage in 1930

Why Deb Hulst chose Michigan

Grandma and Grandpa wanted to get out of the City of Chicago in the 1930's. They summered on the North Shore of Upper Hamlin Lake several times and realized that this is where they wanted to live. When this property became available in the 1930's they jumped on it. We added the vacation rental in 2005, only beginning the rental of it in the spring of 2009.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy watching the hummingbirds in the morning, sitting on the front porch with our cup of coffee. The lake always offers beauty and entertainment, whether it be fishing, boating, skiing, tubing, or just riding in the pontoon boat to the dunes. Living on the lake year round is awesome. All seasons are fun and exciting! Snowmobiling right out our backdoor....who could ask for more! We take our winter vacation in places where it is warm, but the sunsets never come close to the beautiful colors right here in Michigan. Icefishing, too, is great on Hamlin Lake!

Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for all the personal touches provided in your cottage. It was secluded enough, but just right for our day trips (shopping, visiting friends, & enjoying all the colors fall had to offer). It was a wonderful "sister's get away".

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your Tay the our cottage. The location is private and picturesque but also half way between ludington and manistee for shopping or visiting both port cities for breathtaking sunsets over lake michigan. Being in the national forest also gives you plenty of opportunities to see wildlife and lots of trees and other beautiful scenery. LOOKING forward to your next visit

  • 5 of 5

We were able to spend Labor Day Weekend at this cabin! What a wonderful, relaxing time! The cabin was clean, well-furnished, and just perfect for the two of us! The view was gorgeous....it was a beautiful setting! We enjoyed our quiet time there and can't wait to go again!! Deb and Mark (the owners) are so friendly and accommodating (without being intrusive!)! The whole place had a calm and peaceful feeling! We are planning another visit....hopefully, soon!!

Cabin on Lake Hamlin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin on Lake Hamlin was really cute, good view of the lake from the living room window. There is everything you need. We really enjoyed the little porch with the view of the lake for eating meals. Deb and Mark are super nice people who were very accommodating. They live on the premises so they are there if you need anything. The cabin is close to Ludington and the state park and Lake Michigan with lots of things to do and places to eat. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this cabin to anyone.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed not only our cottage, but much of what the surrounding area has to offer. Boating on hamlin lake, fishing, and dinner on the water at barnharts are some more things to do next time! Of course, there are the miles of trails in the manistee national forest that could invigorate a person for days. Then visiting the many port cities along lake michigan could take some time too. So, as you see, still plenty to do when you return!

as advertised. the other reviews are spot on! Mark and Deb are wonderful hosts and were sure to advise and tend to our needs. very very enjoyable stay. the cabin/cottage/house....was immaculate! the boat was perfect! the advise received from Mark is spot on! From the best way to gas up to the best place for produce! we could not be happier with our stay and hosts. It was great to be "off the beaten path". directions were spot on and easy to follow. Wifi update worked well and cell service is just fine. updated TV with Driect TV (prob wont use it much with all the property and area has to offer!) short drive into Ludington and great hiking trails at the end of the dirt road. wonderful area. beautiful weather. could not have asked for more. we will return! thanks Mark and Deb! I cannot begin to express our gratitude for a wonderful stay.

Spent a wonderful week on Hamlin Lake

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a delightful week at "The Shadows"! The cottage is everything the other reviewers have said. So clean and well stocked with everything you will need for cooking. Spending days at the beautiful beach at Ludington State Park, hiking in the woods for miles. Stopping in the woods to watch a doe and her fawn, fishing off the dock. It was really a wonderful quiet relaxing week. We couldn't have asked for more.

Thank you Deb and Mark for making your lovely cottage available!
