House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)
My wife and I are active in many art and craft areas. My wife plays in two community bands that perform on a professional level. I enjoy making furniture and doing cabinet work. and we are both readers. Therefore the peaceful location of our mountain retreat seemed to be just suited for our tastes. Yet, if you are more active, if you enjoy physical activities there is so much to see and do in this area that no matter what your interests you will find enjoyment.
Owner purchased this House in 2006
Why Owner chose Huntingdon
My Wife and I fell in love with the solitude of this location and yet it is accessible and easy to reach from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington DC and Northern VA. It offers such a variety of activities that it would take a month to visit all of the historical sites, fish all the streams and the lake, bike all the trails, hike all of the logging trails, or---just sit on the deck with a book , the sun and the birds.
What makes this House unique
When the retreat is fully occupied with 12 to 14 persons there is plenty of room. There is a long narrow 3rd floor room, originally built as a writers nook with the best views of all, accessible by a spiral staircase from the sleeping loft over the kitchen. This room became the perfect clubhouse for my grandchildren when they were between the ages of seven to thirteen. Even when there were beds available they preferred to sleep in sleeping bags on the fully carpeted and well padded floor. we would see them now and again when they got hungry and came down for meals.

IT was beautiful
WOULD LOVE TO STAY AGAIN
The property was in great shape and beautiful. The view was amazing.
We had a group of 12 people and the house was large enough that we all fit fine without feeling overcrowded. Everyone got their own space and was able to enjoy. The house was awesome, the huge deck and the open concept was just a couple of the amazing features. Ron was very easy to communicate with and gave very helpful instructions and directions. Our group will definitely be back in the future.
Just like home.....
We spent TEN days at this wonderful lodge retreat with a group of 10 adults and had an AMAZING stay!! Cabin was as described and had all of the extras you could want or need. The owner was wonderful throughout the entire experience and quick to help us handle a few minor glitches that were "acts of nature" (the power went out in the middle of the night as a result of a storm that went through). Owner's response to get us the help we needed to get the geothermal system and other things reset and back online was instantaneous. Owner was great- so friendly, and helpful with everything. Caretakers also stopped in to make sure all was okay- such wonderful reassurance and support when you are dealing with someone else's expensive investment. Cabin was spacious and quite comfortable for our group. It was a relaxing stay and certainly will be a place that we book again.
Raystown annual bike trip
Love the Ridge Retreat. 5th year running. See you next year. Thank you again.
John, has been a faithful guest for 5 consecutive seasons. He asked to extend his stay and wanted to know how much extra it would cost. Since it was early in the season with no one competing for the date, how could you possibly charge anything extra for a guest who has not only been faithful but in addition leaves the premises pretty much in the same condition as their arrival.
Great place for a family reunion!
Our family was thrilled with the house and the location. We were 9, ages 16-76. Plenty of sleeping space. We loved the openness of the design with the huge high ceiling great room, spacious and well equipped kitchen, lovely covered porch. My sons remarked that they could see us doing a long weekend at Ridge Retreat again sometime, even though it's a 3.5 hour drive for each family. The afternoon we spent on the lake with a pontoon boat was the highlight. the kids all got to water ski and do the inner tub. Made Gramma's heart happy to be doing things with my kids that we all loved so much when everyone was younger. The weather Gods were with us so we could be very active, hiking, biking, boating. My thanks to Ron for making this lovely retreat available.
Ridge Retreat...the huge tree house in the woods!
We rented the Ridge Retreat for about 10 people in town for my daughter's PSU graduation! The house was extremely spacious and clean. The back deck view was incredible and gave the feel of being up in the trees. It was in close proximity to the grocery store and other amenities. The drive to PSU was about 30 miles, easy drive with lots of beautiful farm land to see along the way. The owner, Ron, was great to work with and was great with directions and information to know regarding specifics of the house. Was very accessible for any questions or concerns. Would highly recommend this rental, especially with a group of people!
