Answers to Frequent Questions: Asheville Lookout Chalet is 3 miles from Warren Wilson College and within 10 miles of Montreat, Lake Eden, the Ridgecrest Conference Center, Rockmont, Timberlake, MerriMac, and the Billy Graham Conference Center. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is not required to reach Asheville Lookout for most of the year, but may be necessary for winter rentals. Security resident on-site, housekeeper and maintenance available.

Shopping and Restaurants: The nearest grocery store is Ingles Market on Route 70, 4 miles from the Chalet. This is a large, well stocked store with an exceptional selection of products, including beer and wine. Ingles offers a full service pharmacy, extended shopping hours, self-checkout, and accepts major credit cards. Black Mountain (10 miles) has many wonderful restaurants; we personally recommend the Black Mountain Bistro, Veranda Cafe and the Dripolator Coffeehouse on State Street. For amazing and affordable pulled pork barbeque, slaw, hushpuppies and a big ole brownie, don't miss Okie Dokies Smokehouse located on Old 70 in Swannanoa.

About Bob and Lorna

We live in Northern Virginia outside of Washington, DC. We have been vacationing in the Asheville area for over 30 years and enjoy the many activities it offers, and look forward to eventually retiring to the Smoky Mountains.

Bob and Lorna purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Bob and Lorna chose Asheville Area

We built the Chalet in 2005 on acreage adjoining family owned property (Brett's Falling Waters Cabin). We love the tranquility and privacy of our vacation home, as well as it's closeness to shopping, restaurants, and the entertainment offered by Black Mountain and Asheville. Our staff, Lee and Holly, have been taking care of the Chalet since it was built, and they help us ensure that the Chalet is a comfortable and welcoming home away from home for our guests.

What makes this chalet unique

Asheville Lookout Chalet has a private, away from it all atmosphere while being within easy driving distance of many of the area attractions and amenities. Guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of time spent on the mountain in their own company, or as a home-base location convenient to Black Mountain and Asheville, white water rafting on the French Broad River, hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway and exploring the Pisgah National Forest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To start, we had never rented a "cabin" before, so this was a first. It exceeded our expectations, which made it all the better. We had my parents come down from Michigan, us from Louisiana, to stay there for two nights. We had a wonderful time, the location was perfect. Our only regret was that we did not stay one more night. Three nights would be the way to go if you have the time. The slightest issue we had is we could not get the hottub to work which we left a note for the maintenance people. That said, it in no way hampered our stay. We loved the place. The layout was great, to the point it may be the blueprint to our retirement "dream house" in the future. Thanks again...

Great view & location

  • 5 of 5

The house is very clean and contains everything you need. We loved the open space of living room, kitchen, and outdoor patio. Lots of light and seating. The high ceiling brings up more light and lovely view of the mountains. We loved that it provided privacy up the mountain, yet it was a short drive to downtown.

3 things are a must do: Asheville down town (dining, shopping, live music, etc.), Biltmore Estate, and the drive up Blue Ridge Parkway (mountain view, water falls, hiking, etc.). Overall it was a great vacation and the house was a large part of it.

Great place. Clean, comfortable, close to activities.

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay. Wish we could have stayed longer. Everything you need was provided. Bedrooms amazingly quiet even when other members of family stayed up later or up earlier. Driveway was a challenge for Uber drivers.

Oven did not work, porch light didn't work. Everything else was great

Owner's Response: We want our guests to enjoy our home, and if they have any issues, to contact us or housekeeping immediately. Unfortunately this guest did not contact us during her stay so that we could quickly resolve her issues with the oven controls and the deck lights. The oven is a dual oven/microwave, and the oven start button is in the lower control panel. The deck lights are on a motion sensor, click once for the motion sensor and twice for them to stay on. We will highlight this information in our Welcome Package.

Spring break 2017!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 spent 5 nights at the Asheville Lookout Chalet. The home is conveniently located yet peaceful and secluded. Our mini van had no trouble climbing the steep driveway. Not portrayed on the website photos is how open, bright, and airy the main living area is. The beds were super comfortable with very soft sheets. My husband said he didn't even miss our bed at home. The kitchen is very well stocked. Everything was spotlessly clean. We loved the radiant floor heating and the gas fireplace especially since the outside was covered in snow! The only negative would be that it took the hot tub almost 24hrs to heat up but once it was hot, it was one of our favorite things about the house. I would love to return in the summer for a whole different experience.

Lovely home with all the amenities for a relaxing getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Loved the home, space, views, fire pit and hot tub. Feels like you are away from the world, but with ease of access to the entire Asheville area. We loved sitting on the large deck and relaxing in the family rooms surrounded by amazing views. Definitely recommend!
