Private, secluded villa faces Florida Bay in view of the fabulous Everglades. Located in a lush tropical hammock in a quiet residential area (rare). The villa is approx. 50 feet from the water. The property contains a wading beach and a free marina with night lights, power and water.
The villa itself comes with a fully-equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, linens, queen and king beds, Cable TV, VCR, and a Florida room for dining. Windows in the living room and bedroom cover two thirds of the wall giving the feeling of the outdoors being in. Beautiful glass block shower in good-sized shower. This is a small house, near the water, no high-rise, no canal, and no density of people problem. This is a laid-back atmosphere for those who desire it.
Islamorada proudly calls itself the 'Fishing Capital of the World.'

We are Bob and Phyllis Mitchell and have loved the Keys since we moved to Florida in the late 60's. I was an airline pilot for 25 years and at the same time worked as the Marketing Manager for Florida Sportsman Magazine. I am now retired. Phyllis is a retired teacher and professor who now works as a volunteer to a long list of organizations from the local parks to looking out for abandoned or abused children in the Keys. We both are very community involved and are on many Village committees. We love fishing, especially when our grandchildren are visiting. We did many years of offshore fishing and after that many years of backcountry but are now slowing down on that. Our big love is plants and gardening and we love to keep the Villa property native and beautiful as well as our nearby house on an acre. We will be thrilled to give you a tour of the local plants and what we have done with the Villa property and ours.
Bob Mitchell purchased this house in 1984
We have loved the Keys since we moved to Florida in the late 60's. Within a few years we discovered the most delightful Keys hideout in Islamorada that is now the Keys Villa we own and rent. At the time it was a small non-typical motel with just a few units. The Villa is a small house on the property, comfortable for four people, and is free standing on an acre property with a free protected Marina. We keep it clean, constantly up-dated and remodeled, and very comfortable for our guests. The small town laid back atmosphere was very attractive but it took us until 1984 for this villa to come up for sale. There are three other rental accomodations, owned by friends, on the property so it is very quiet. We love it so much that we bought the property two doors north where we now live. We are nearby for your needs but not there unless you need us.
The property is so quiet with so few guests that folks naturally socialize. Nightly visits to the bay for the sunset, drinks and snacks become a norm. Maybe half the guests to the property are return people for years. A big hit is the occasional visits by an octopus which darts around changing colors as she passes over the bottom. Years ago one was feeding on the shrimp in my bait bag and when the bag was taken away from her she started putting her tenacles up on the dock looking for more. Soft heart, I fed her a few.
We had a wonderful time in the Keys Villa - we felt right at home. Everything is here that you could possible want. You have such a beautiful location, beautiful grounds and close to everything. The marina was perfect for us, nice and protected, and easy to get to our boat. Sad to leave this beautiful place but really looking forward to our next time here. Thanks so much for your hospitality.
We had a great stay a Mitchell's. The house had everything you could need and close to everything in Islamorada. Bob and Phyllis are great hosts and were very helpful. Can't wait to book our next stay.
I just spent two great weeks in Bob and Phyllis Villa in Islamorada. The place was everything and more how they described it. They came by and introduced themselves and said if I need anything just call. It was nice to have my boat in the basin every day able to wash it down every time I came in. I met so many nice people that were staying at the facility we would watch the beautiful sunset every night. A lot of great restaurants close by and when we didn’t want to go out we cooked on the grill. I want to thank Bob and Phyllis for such a great stay I can’t wait until next year.
Just returned from a week at the Keys Villa. Pictures do not do this place justice. Most importantly the villa is VERY CLEAN!! It was just the perfect size for my wife and I and our 9 year old yellow lab "DUVAL". This being said, there would be PLENTY of room for 2 couples. We absolutely loved watching the GORGEOUS sunset nightly and relaxing in the private patio area of the villa. The people that were staying at the adjacent Bay View Villa shared the 42 lb mahi in which they caught. I grilled it up on our private gas grill. All the amazing restaurant's of Islamorada are within a stones throw, but THAT FISH, on MY GRILL, on MY PRIVATE PATIO was the best meal of the week! Both my wife and I have worked in the luxury hotel market in NYC for years. Mr. Mitchell gets the meaning of hospitality. He is available for anything you may need and also surprises you with the sweet simple things like fresh fruits and vegetables from his garden on his property next door. Thank you for a great week, we can't wait to come back!
This was our first week vacation together and I must say we had an amazing time. Keys Villa was comfortable and cozy. We brought our 8 month old Boston with us and she swam for the first time at the property. We watched beautiful sunsets and met some really nice people. Fishing right off the dock was very peaceful and snorkeling was a plus. Our batteries are definitely recharged and we say thank you to Bob & Phyllis! We hope to visit again in the future!
This was the best family vacation we have ever had! From the moment you turn into the gravel drive, the lush botanical gardens envelop you and you feel all your worries and daily stresses disappear. We were immediately greeted by other vacationers who were eager to help us with our boat and trailer. We quickly unpacked, poured ourself a glass of wine and started a fantastic week packed full of adventure, nature, good food, new friends and wonderful accommodations. The villa itself is impeccably clean and well appointed. The owners obviously have nice taste in furnishings and decorations. The kitchen has everything you need, but we especially liked using the outside grill to cook up all our fresh fish. Our boys loved eating what they caught! The bed was very comfortable and my husband and I caught up on some much needed sleep. We met so many wonderful new friends staying in the surrounding villas. (Even our labradoodle, Potter, made some great new friends!) Most of them have been coming to these villas for years, even decades, so they provided a wealth of knowledge and advice. We listened to everything! We went for a boat ride through wheel ditch mangrove tunnel, fishing at Channel 5 bridge, snorkeling at Cheeca Rocks and Alligator Reef Lighthouse, exploring Indian Key State Park, fed the tarpons at Robbie's, caught the magic show at Lorelei's, watched the sunset at Morada Bay beach cafe and that's just to name a few. The villa is in a perfect location to walk to lots of shops and restaurants. Don't miss the great farmer's market every Monday across the street! We also loved Islamorada Brewing Company, Backcountry Cowboy Outfitters, The Lobster Trap Art, Ocean Gardens Gifts and Latitude 25. We didn't have to use the car all week. If you feel like staying in, the marina is a wonderful place to relax, fish, look at the stars and watch the sunset. Everyday at sunset (which is fantastic) everyone meets with snacks and cocktails at the community table.
Bob and Phyllis are wonderful hosts and they immediately make you feel like family. We thank you so much for our cherished memories and we cannot wait to see you in 2016!
Very comfortable cottage with all the amenities for preparing your own meals, etc. View of gulf from patio and living room. Dock is only footsteps away from door and very comfortable for reading a book or fishing. Caught many fish from the dock and saw much marine life such as dolphin, crabs, lobster and stingray. A family of manatee even visited the dock and stayed for much of the afternoon. Had a lovely time here!
