We stayed at the Yearling for our 25th Anniversary and enjoyed every second! The cabin was clean, the kitchen was well stocked and the grill was ready to go! The cabin is very cozy and romantic, with all of the details you would want for a secluded get away. From the fireplace which you can see from the bedroom,, to the hot tub, jacuzzi bath, and sound system/tv/dvd, everything was perfect!! The creek behind the cabin and the snow falling all around was just the cherry on top! The booking process was easy and the we can't wait to return!!
I'm writing this review (almost a year later) because we're looking at another cabin to rent for a few says for our 1 year anniversary! We love the mountains and I just happened to run across this cabin where we honeymooned. I saw it had 4.5 stars and wanted to know what person scored this a low rating. And it seems it was almost 2 months after our stay! I can't imagine in 2 moths this beautiful place could just basically fall apart. I just wanted to say that rating (dated Nov 2013) is NOT accurate and those people are VERY picky- my husband and I didn't we didn't to leave it was so beautiful and there is a Creek I'm the back yard. we loved it and we also read many memories in the booklets for guests to share. We loveeeeed our stay here and so would you!
The listing description for this cabin is accurate, except for the word "luxury." We have leased cabins over a 12 yr period, and we are willing to pay good money; however, comparing what we paid vs. what we received did not quite add up. (1) the bed slept well, but bedclothes/sheets/pillows were old and worn. When we removed the pillowcases, both pillows had yellow stains on them. Ugh! (2) the sofa should be replaced. It's springs are shot, making it sag toward the middle (uncomfortable!) (3) fireplace worked well, but the fireplace screen (as reported to property management) was torn at the top in 2 places, making it a fight to close. (4)the outside of the cream colored kitchen cabinets, especially around the door handles, are dirty from much use (looks bad); (5) the oven door handle was broken, but it worked. (6) Property management alerted us to bring paper towels and bar soap, and it's a good thing we did -- we arrived to one 3/4 roll paper towel; no paper napkins, ... and (come on), for what we paid the owner could not provide toothbrush holders or soap dishes? I used coffee mugs next to the bathroom sink to hold both during our stay. (7) Eating utensils were nice, but serving utensils (spatulas, etc.) were old and knives in the butcher block were dull. Where is your cutting board? We never found it. (8) although the cabin is clean at first inspection, there's some areas that need attention (under the kitchen sink, above the stove, windowsills and shelves). The Jacuzzi tub in bathroom is very nice, but the control knobs should be replaced -- the facings are missing and they look tacky. Central heating worked well; shower and tub had plenty of hot water; towels were good quality; dishwasher/stove/fridge/icemaker worked fine, but fridge motor was LOUD at night. Washer/dryer have seen better days and substantial lint/dirt buildup behind them (fire hazard?). We never used the hot tub, so cannot comment. The Yearling is a nice cabin; good location, and quiet, but not really secluded. We could see the cabins on either side of us, but didn't see any people. In my opinion, attention to detail is lacking in this cabin... better quality rugs on the floor and more inviting decorations throughout would make it more attractive. Also, this is the first cabin we've been too that didn't give attention to some "bare essentials" in the kitchen (i.e., cooking oil or spices). Please consider addressing these concerns vs. what you charge. Thank you.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it. We will definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends and family!
We just came home from a very relaxing weekend at this cabin. Talk about a much needed break! We were looking for something that would allow us to completely escape from the craziness of our daily life, and this is just what the doctor ordered. Very secluded, very romantic, and looked exactly like the pictures. It was spotlessly clean, and they provide virtually everything you need.
We went in to Banner Elk (it's about a 15 min drive) each night for dinner, and did some hiking in the area. I highly recommend this to any couple looking for a romantic weekend to reconnect!
My wife and I stayed here back in Oct. 2008 for our Honeymoon and it was perfect. Very quiet and secluded...very romantic as well, that hot tub is great on crisp fall evenings. We took in a few of the local holiday festivals and nearby shopping. We also got to enjoy some of the nearby parks, like Grandfather Mt. and Blowing Rock. But we were both so very pleased at the end of the day to return to this little paradise. We WILL be back...and I can't wait.
