Our family has been renting this property for over 15 years. It is a terrific location for a large family to have a private swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and overall relaxing vacation. We have seen. lots of wildlife throughout the years This includes herons, salamanders, fish, bobcat, deer, beaver, grouse, bear, turtles, frogs and more!
The house has accommodations for all of us with an open concept living room, dining room and kitchen area. There is a large screened in porch attached to a big deck overlooking the beautiful pond.
Callicoon, NY is a quaint town which only a short drive from the house. There is a fantastic creamery for the kids (and adults too!), a brew pub, bistro, and delicious Italian restaurant.
The owners of the property are a wonderful family who are very knowledgeable of the area and they are so helpful. You will not be disappointed if you want peace and quiet while enjoying the great outdoors. Our family looks forward to this vacation every year.
I have been going to this house every summer for the past couple of years. The scenery is beautiful whether you're peering out at the many private acres from the deck of the house or from the dock at the lake. There are tons of different activities such as fishing, swimming, and boating. Make sure to bring some hot dogs or hamburgers to grill at the lake and some marshmallows for some late night s'mores! It's a great way to get away to somewhere quiet, peaceful, and private. The owners/family are incredibly friendly and very welcoming. It's a perfect fit for any age and I highly recommend!
I would love to give this 1 star just so that people won't visit the Boondocks. I want to give it 1 star just so that I will have this treasure all to myself. In reality I'll have to give it a 5. Simply put the Boondocks was amazing. Frank and co. were extremely welcoming, the fishing was amazing and the land- goddamn beautiful. It's only been a few weeks and I'm already looking at renting again.
To be short: If you've never been here please don't go. It's a total waste of your time. And the time you don't spend there will allow me to many, many, many countless numbers of weekends there that I will love forever.
Such an amazing time at this cottage. The pictures do not do it justice. The scenery was amazing. The lake SPECTACULAR and the wildlife was unbelieveable. We got to see a black bear, plenty of deer and bunnies, and even turkey and a porcupine! Fishing was so much fun in both the bitty pond by the house as well as at the lake itself. We swam daily, canoed, went rafting, horseback riding, sailed and BBQd by the lake. The owners/family were SO ACCOMODATING! I am certain that anyone renting this place will enjoy it as much as we did. Sharing coffee in early morning with a deer 30 ft to my right and a big ole bunny 30 ft to my left -- priceless :) Thank you for the great getaway!
Absolutely beautiful. Three couples, two dogs and a
whole lot of barbecuing, fishing, swimming and
boating. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend
and the family that rents the property were
