The view was beautiful, the house was spacious and it was the perfect getaway. It is only 5 minutes from Legs Inn, which is fantastic if you love Polish food! The beach is gorgeous and while it was a little too early in the season to swim, we hung out down there all weekend. You have very sketchy cell reception, but I thought that was the best part of the vacation.
Very clean and comfortable - Great Location!
Greg was very prompt and courteous with replying via HomeAway and my friends and I had a fantastic time at their home for our annual weekend of skiing over President's Day. Approx 25 min from Boyne Highlands/Nubs Knob. Greg sent checklists for check in/out and made it easy to get situated. The house is HUGE and could easily accommodate a group of 17 people as advertised. The house is very clean and comfortable with plenty of deck space. 2 living areas and a large kitchen.... The house is situated right on Lake Michigan with a private beach and we are tempted to come back to rent in the summer months. Be sure to bring your own TP and some basic soap/paper products!
Amazing family reunion
I love family reunions. Every year I try to find the perfect spot, and this year, yes I found it! We had the best week in the house, it is absolutely an amazing property. I will list some pros and cons.
Size, it is huge.
Location - Beautiful place with lots of interesting places to visit in any direction. House is quite secluded so you feel peaceful and rested but still close to stores, restaurants and attractions. It is right on the Lake and the views are spectacular. Best sunsets ever.
Equipment - it is well equipped with sand toys, kayaks, ice hockey, nice play area in basement... you almost do not need to bring anything, but bikes is a good idea.
Kitchen has lots of everything.
Deck - Very large with lots of sitting and tables. Great, great, great.
Owner - very nice and always available for questions.
Internet is slow because of location. This however could be a pro since it was great to disconnect from work.
Sand - It is hard work to keep the carpet and floors without sand!
I recommend visiting Harbor Springs, and Mackinaw Island. Restaurants, Legs In (Polish) just around the corner is fabulous. Crow's nest is a family restaurant 2 miles from the house but you can also order pizza to go for those easy nights. Go down tunnel of trees until you reach Pond Hill Farm, the restaurant there is super nice and the farm great to visit for both kids and adults.
For grocery shopping I recommend IGA in Harbor Springs, easy drive on 77 south, right straight from the house. 20 minutes. It really has everything.
Thank you very much. We're glad you had a good time with your family. That is why we built our cottage. We have a better Wi-Fi system on order, but, we are only a mile from Wilderness State Park for a reason. Lastly, I'm pretty sure the sand is an important part of the beach experience. Thanks again. Linda and Greg Hebert.
50th Wedding Anniversary Family Gathering
This was the perfect lake house for our family of 14 (8adults & 6 teens)
Plenty of room inside, large screened-in porch & huge deck. The 1st
night were were treated to a spectacular sunset and were lulled a sleep
to the sounds of the waves lapping on the shore....AAaaaa.
We are a family of great cooks, so we made good use of the well equipped kitchen and the gas grill. We brought most of our food as
the IGA is 25 mins. away. (You can get bread, milk and eggs in the
village.) Our favorite hangout was the sandy beach
and fire pit for S'mores. (So glad we brought our kayaks and we used them every day. We had bikes too, but did not use them much)
The Tunnel of Trees, pot pies from Good Hart General store, Zip line
at Boyne Highland, shopping in Petoskey, Mackinac Is., Leggs Inn, we
did it all and still had plenty of time on the lake.
Early a.m. strolls along the shoreline looking for Petoskey stones and
watching the bald eagles were my special "me" time.
The owners are easy to work with and respond promptly to any questions or concerns.
We left relaxed and refreshed and wanting to return.
I'm glad you had such a good time at our cottage and thank you for such a gracious review. You pretty much encapsulated our experience at the cottage during the warm weather. It's indoors and skiing during the winter. I hope you are able to come back next year.
Pros - Very roomy house. Kitchen well equipped. Screened porch off of the master bedroom is a great place to read, catch a nap or visit with friends/family. Easy to get to with a couple of good restaurants nearby. Nice fire pit and sandy area near the water. Fun creek nearby and a short drive to "tunnel of trees" area by Harbor Springs. Family friendly setting with accommodating owner.
Cons - Shallow water area full of rocks. Must go some distance offshore to swim. Only one TV for everyone to share. Needs dedicated cabinet space for renters. House starting to need some TLC/amenities to match the rental price.
Thank you for your review. We have another television on order to install in the upstairs great room.
Had a wonderful stay
My family had a great time at the cottage. We have been renting in the area for many years and with this house we finally found a comfortable fit for our extended family of 13 people (8 adults, 5 kids). We liked staying in the same house rather than staying in multiple cabins which we have done in past years. There was plenty of room to spread out and have privacy when desired, yet it was also easy to share meals and to have family time all together. We hope to return next year!
My wife and I are so glad you enjoyed the cottage. It was designed to allow for privacy in the bedrooms and outside perimeter and still come together in the Great Room or the downstairs Family Room. I'm glad that worked out for you.
See you next year!
The cottage is on Lake Michigan near Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Mackinac Island. Wilderness State Park and its sand dunes are two miles away. Skiing at Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob are 20 minutes away. The area is unspoiled Up North Wilderness with pristine beaches. Other Activities: Motor Boating, Snowmobiling, Dining, Up Northing Ski: Nubs Nob and Boyne Highlands for downhill skiing. Our front door for cross country.
