I bought and lived in this wonderful house from 2007 to 2010, and during that time went through the house carefully - updating and upgrading all aspects. I had the pool put in and did a major landscaping, and I selected all the furniture personally, by exploring import boutiques and carefully selecting various pieces over time.
Unfortunately, I had to move to the mainland for work, so I have been renting the home to a family for the last three years. Now they are moving on, and I am looking for new tenants.
Currently, I live and work in Ashland Oregon, where I am an administer at the local university.
I love the home and think it is a very special place, someday (6 years?), I hope to return and live there again!
Here is a (work) picture of me.....
Alissa purchased this house in 2007
“Alissa's house was an absolute perfect gem. My family of 9 stayed at her beautiful home in Lanikai. It is as pictured but better. The deck outside is large and surrounded by lush green jungle, perfect for entertaining. There are a couple koi/fish ponds around the property as well and a pretty water feature on the deck. The wood floors are stunning, the location is literally like a 3 min walk from the beach. There is even a shower in one of the bathrooms that's an enclosed outdoor area so it feels as if you are bathing in the jungle. I loved it! Listening to the crickets at night with the windows open for some fresh Hawaiian air was amazing. It's very quiet and peaceful. The pool also has a hot tub that spills into it. There was lots of towels and she provided some beach toys too such as a kayak and paddle board among a few other things, perfect things for use in Lanikai. Kailua town is a short ten min drive where you can find whole foods, wine shops and anything else you need. Communication was very easy with Alissa and she responded very quickly to everything and left a detail print out of instructions. The design of the house leaves for privacy for everyone with bedrooms situated in the corners of the home. It was clean and comfortable. Plenty of beds and extra bedding. My family and I would most definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Alissa for helping make our trip so memorable.”
Our party of 9 consisted of three generations, ages 17 to 75. All of us agree that the house was comfortable and large enough to not feel crowded. The location allows for privacy while being located within walking distance to one of the best beaches in the world. The property was very clean and well maintained and was a great base from where to explore Oahu. Our favorite spot was the patio where we spent most of our time during our 11 day stay. Supermarkets and restaurants are a short drive from the house. Overall, we had a fantastic time in Hawaii and the house contributed greatly. I would definitely recommend staying at this property. The property manager was very helpful and also suggested some things to do that are not on the radar of most tourists.
The house was very nice and Alisa was very attentive to our requests. The outdoor rooms of the house were also beautiful. We were comfortable and felt very good about our stay. The only change I would request is in the availability of TV. This was a little cumbersome. Overall, a really great experience with a great host!
My family and I stayed at Alissa's house in July. There were 8 of us staying in the house, and it was very spacious and quite comfortable. The back garden was spectacular, with a wonderful pool and beautiful gardens. Except for a few odds and ends, everything we needed was there for our stay. Alissa was also a great communicator and always answered any queries that we had very quickly. If we are ever in Kailua again, we would definitely stay here. :)
Thanks again Alissa, for making our family holiday a very enjoyable one!
Being close to Lanikai and Kailua is wonderful. Short drive to lots of activities, beaches, and shopping. But the house itself is in need of repairs and a serious cleaning.
I messaged Alissa about the issues in the house (outdoor lights not working, lanai water feature drained of water and non functioning, trash cans overflowing, ice maker not working, refridgerator in the laundry room not working) mainly so we would get our security deposit back. The trash issue was handled but nothing was fixed during our stay. The pool hot tub breaker goes off every time we used the spa but thankfully my husband got instructions from the pool man about how to reset the breaker. The Ac units in the bedroom were functioning but very dirty (so dusty I actually cleaned them when we arrived as best I could since my kids would be breathing that air all night).
The pool itself is lovely and we enjoyed the outside area. The kitchen and living room were very hot by the afternoon and with no AC in the main living area so cooking was a sweaty endeavor, but the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook any meal. I'm sure ac isn't needed in the cooler months but it was hot in July so my 70 year old parents found it uncomfortable. The outdoor grill was a big success.
The living room does not have a sofa. The one pictured isn't there, just the day bed that is shown in front of the window. Strange that there wasn't a sofa but since it was hot inside we stayed outside as often as we could.
The garage was full of beach equipment which was great. 4 boogie boards, cooler, beach chairs and umbrellas were much appreciated. We loved watching the birds come and go from the feeder and the fish ponds.
The house is for sale as another reviewer mentioned but that did not impact our stay.
Alissa did refund the security deposit promptly.
I am sympathetic to anyone with a beach house rental, and I inderstand that things get broken, but I do think this house needs some TLC before it is worth the rental price.
My family and I stayed at Alissa's house just last week. There were 8 of us staying in the house, and it was very spacious and quite comfortable. The back garden was spectacular, with a wonderful pool and beautiful gardens. Except for a few odds and ends, everything we needed was there for our stay. Alissa was also a great communicator and always answered any queries that we had. If we are ever in Kailua again, we would definitely stay here. :)
Thanks again Alissa, for making our family holiday a very enjoyable one!
Dated, Dirty and On the Market!!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
We were really disappointed! This property was dirty, in need of repairs and updates, and has just been put up for sale. I would not rent it again!! The owner moved out years ago and has let it go. We travel internationally and often, using VRBO, Homeaway and other sites, and have NEVER complained before. The reviews (except from Carmen) are from three years ago. Read below if you have or plan on booking this place!!!
We arrived to find dirty dishes in the cabinets, towels and bedding still in the dryer, the pool and hot tub electrical breakers blowing constantly, molding outdoor cushions, a broken towel rack, ancient beach towels and a horrible sectional in the living room that is not the one photographed.
Her house manager, Kaleo ( who is a friend, helping out) quickly went to the store and replaced pans, cushions and towels but not glasses or dish ware as we suggested. THEN, I found out that she was putting it on the market in three days, and I had just spent the day, basically staging it for her.
The TVS in the bedroom do not work and we are VERY technologically savvy. There is one Roku box that she suggests moving from room to room, if you have an account to sign in to. The pool guy, Scott, came and showed us how to flip the breaker and changed the hot tub temp control from the set 90 degrees to 102.
We offered to leave so that she could fix all the problems and receive a refund for the remaining nights. She declined. We offered to let people in for a discount. She declined.
I am writing my first bad review ever. Do not rent this property! It is super sad because it has tons of potential but the owner is disillusioned as to what is really happening in her place. She doesn't believe in bed skirts, so she leaves the box spring visible per her design tastes. It is not worth that much money a night, even in Lanikai!
The home is in Lanikai, just to the left of Kailua Beach Park. It's near the end of the Lanikai loop a block and half up the street.
Located on the windward side of Oahu, Lanikai is world renowned for its white sand beaches, water sports (kayaking, sail boarding, surfing), and cultural activities so as the Polynesian Cultural Village. Next to Kailua town - a cute and easily accessible village with lovely restaurants, shops, grocery stores, banks etc. Everything you need for a wonderful and easy holiday!
