Our boys loved the lake and the toys provided. Lots of very nice touches to make things feel like home." '"Loved our stay here. House very well stocked with everything we needed. Wonderful view of the lake. being able to swim and fish from the backyard was incredible." "Had a blast." "Hope to come back in the fall." "Hope to use your house again in the near future." (Kansas); “Totally AWESOME." "Will be back again." "The twin bed downstairs was the perfect place for our 4-year old granddaughter. The cabin is wonderful and decorated in lovely decor." (Oklahoma); "We had just the perfect time away and just enjoyed being here and relaxing." "There is nothing better than this cabin."

These are just some of the direct quotes from the guest book. Like them, you will soon learn that SummerSong is an inviting and relaxing vacation cabin and ideal for families, those who just love to fish, a couple looking for a relaxing get-away, or a group of friends who want to relax. Warm, quiet, and comfortably decorated, it is a great location for families who crave a lakeside vacation experience. Kids just love it here with access to the lake just outside the downstairs door with no steep hillsides to navigate. Parents can feel secure knowing there is a gradual decline into the water, with no drop offs. It is also an ideal location for people who love fishing. Fishing boats can be moored in front of the cabin or you can just stand in front of the house and cast your lines into the lake. Couples find SummerSong to be the perfect relaxation cabin. With its gentle slope to the water's edge, wonderful outside decks, and spectacular views, even those with limited mobility find SummerSong an ideal location. Old friends who need 'catch-up' time with one another find SummerSong to be ideal for porch-sitting and nostalgic remembrances. (Please search YouTube for SummerSong Vacation Rental Beaver Lake AR for videos.)

Perfect for....: Kids! They will love it here. From morning til evening, from one of two decks, you can watch them swim. You won't be able to get them inside. With a gradual slope into the water, you need not worry about sudden drop-offs in the water.

The Two of You! Take a moonlight swim, just feet from your bedroom door. Then sit by the fire and allow your mind to go blank.

Friends! Cook, eat, laugh, and visit on the deck until the wee hours of the morning while waves lap the shoreline.

Fishing! With easy access to your boat, you can fish any time of day with ease! Just walk a few steps and you are on your way. Come back to the cabin in the heat of the day for a rest and head out again for wonderful night fishing. Hickory Creek Marina, just across the cove, is stocked to help you with all your tackle and bait needs.

Resting! Wave at passing boats. Catch some sun on the deck. Relax in your hammock or yard swing. Enjoy a good book between naps. Walk the shoreline.

Boating: If you love to pull the kids on the tube, SummerSong is the place. The cove in front of the cabin is a perfect place for tubing. Away from the main channel of the lake, yet large enough for some long runs and lots of turns to churn up the waves, the cove is ideal for tubing. Close enough to the cabin, friends and family can watch the fun from their seats on the shore. Or you can take a day-trip up to the Dam and back while sight-seeing on Beaver Lake.

The cabin has two levels. The top level is accessed from the carport and road. The bottom level opens to the lake. With large-screen TV, the upstairs is mainly an open area for kitchen, dining, and living functions. The kitchen is well-stocked and a list of food-stuffs, dishes, pots/pans, etc. can be provided upon request (too long to include here. Two floor-to-ceiling picture windows give everyone a great view of the lake and the hills beyond.

With its own television, a separate bedroom (queen) and bath are also upstairs…often used by those who have difficulty with stairs. The upstairs deck area has a covered area with plenty of rocking chairs, porch swing, and table/chairs for eating or games. The connected open deck is for grilling and dining around the firepit. A gas grill, small charcoal grill, and a smoker are available.

The lower level has a king bed and two twins. This area can be separated into three rooms with draperies and room dividers if needed. A sitting area with table and chairs, loveseat and arm chairs are also downstairs. This level also has floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy the views. It is a great area for kids who just want to get away from the adults. Just outside the door is a small covered porch with a porch swing to enjoy if the weather is rainy. A full deck runs completely across the front of the house with lounge chairs, table/chairs, and bar table and chairs. This deck is great for taking in the sun during the day as well as enjoying the night sky of late evening. Great for taking your favorite beverage and just sitting in the sun and watching all the lake activity.

On either side of the cabin is a yard swing and picnic table. These are great, too, if the kids want to eat on one side of the house and the adults on the other.

Despite sitting just off the road, the property is very private. A chain-link fence with a tall hedge runs the entire length of the property separating it from the road. There is only one other house on the lakeshore, and it is four lots away to the north. A privacy fence separates that property from the cabin property. The south side is bounded by a chain-link fence also.

The lakeside is completely open to the water. The grass is cut to the Corps of Engineers property line. To the south is a lovely cove that is good for fishing. Often guests just fish from the shoreline. Boats can be moored anywhere, but the water is a bit deeper on the south side of the property. Across the lake is Hickory Creek Park which has both day use and overnight camping areas. Boats are launched from this park or the attached Hickory Creek Marina. In addition to normal marina services, boats and pontoons may be rented. There is also a restaurant on the marina property. This area is five minutes away by boat and can be seen from the front deck.

A Favorite Day: Stand at the window for a minute with that first cup of coffee and take in the quiet view before the day begins. Then head outside to a rocking chair on the top deck and enjoy the early morning. Take your next cup of coffee with you as you stroll the shoreline of the property. Maybe take a chair down to the shoreline and just sit there with your feet in the water. Afterward, come back and have some breakfast on the deck and then head out for some fun on the water. Take a break and lay down on one of the lounge chairs with a favorite beverage and take a short nap (or read while taking in some sun.) Enjoy some more fun water activity and then take another nap in the shade (maybe in one of the yard swings??) Start grilling for supper and after dinner, enjoy some twilight swimming. Finally, sit on the front deck with a favorite beverage and enjoy the coming night.

About M. A. Shope

We purchased the property in 1999 when we were living in northwest Arkansas. Now, we live 3 hours away (to take care of my mother) and really wish there were more opportunities to visit and unwind sitting by the water with a good book. I have ALWAYS felt refreshed after a visit, even if it was only for a day. I really enjoy strolling the shoreline at twilight or getting in my little dingy at daybreak with a cup of coffee to quietly explore. I like taking naps in one of the several swings at SummerSong...just looking up into the leaf canopy of the oak trees is a wonder. There is nothing like nature to restore the spirit. SummerSong has always been a retreat from the busyness and noise of everyday life, and we are glad to be able to share this experience with others. We know you will enjoy the cabin. We are always anxious to do anything we can to make your time at the cabin just the best, so always call if you have any questions or concerns. Look forward to meeting you!

M. A. Shope purchased this cabin in 1999

Why M. A. Shope chose Lowell

Thanks for considering SummerSong for your Beaver Lake getaway. We purchased the cabin in 1999 after looking at several properties on the lake. I like to swim, and at SummerSong I could just stop the lawnmower when I got hot and literally, "go jump in the lake" to cool off. I didn't want a place I had to access by car or navigate (sometimes scoot down) a long, steep path or driveway to the water. No long treks with tubes, floaters, etc. Just walk across the yard. Exactly what I wanted--an enchanting place to enjoy and to play. Also "Don't take your ego to the lake" is a quote that resonated with me. I was looking for a simple cabin that would lend itself to immediate relaxation and comfort.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is truly “Right on the water!” The lake access is just about the best anywhere on Beaver Lake. Guests who have not been swimming in years have been coaxed into the water as the cabin is so close to the cabin. Also, the views are just FANTASTIC. There is an Immediate relaxing atmosphere when you arrive. We work on keeping the cabin stocked with items guests will need. A list is available by request. Excellent access for fishing. No drop-offs to worry over with children. Plenty of seating both indoors and out. There are four swings on the property. The upstairs deck has an extra-long one for those tall folks in the family to stretch out and nap. The front deck is great for getting that tan and enjoying a favorite beverage with friends or family.

SummerSong started out as a one-room cabin many years ago and as owners came and went, they added on to it in a “house that topsy built” fashion. Some folks, like us, find this a charming feature in a lake cabin and was one of the reasons we purchased it 20 years addition to its fantastic views and best-on-the-lake access to the water. Someone even built an indoor garden feature—rocks under the staircase—that we have never used except to store plants in the winter. The kitchen cabinets are original to that first room. We decided to keep them rather than replace them with modern ones. Our other touches have been to re-do the upstairs bath (adding a deep, soaking tub), extend the upstairs deck to the carport, replace the kitchen and bath flooring and completely tile the downstairs and both entryways into the cabin. We hope to add a sleeping porch to the south side of the house soon.

The cabin was totally idyllic. Right on the water

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful weekend at SummerSong. Lots to do or just a great place to enjoy nature. Right on the water, as advertised, which is so neat. The rules were a little intimidating but Mary is very communicative and that helped. We will try to come back next year. Word to the wise, if you are hoping to be on the water- rent ahead of time.

Owner's Response: So glad to know you had a great time. Thanks for taking the time to write. Yes, being so close to the shore is just terrific....especially if its been a while since someone's been swimming. Access makes it easy, convenient and private. My apologies about the rules seeming intimidating at first--certainly not my intention, but glad you and I could communicate to ease your mind. Do come back! I offer a discount for multiple years' guests. And yes, planning in early spring is a must for waterfront properties on the lake. Have a good fall! Hope to see you again.

Beautiful views, comfy family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Summersong. The wide picturesque view of the lake from the upper livingroom area was unbeatable. Due to the coolsnap while we were there, we got to enjoy the woodstove fire. We were impressed by how well supplied the property was with all the necessities, as well as books, games galore, and lots more extras that helped us make just the right memories with our family.

Great spot, nice place

  • 3 of 5

I would not rent this again because of the requirement to wash the sheets, dry them and put them away. Too much money for that inconvenience. If you have to leave early, I guess you get up at 3AM to start laundry.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your review of our lake cabin. We were very happy to know you thought it was a nice place in a great spot. We, and hundreds of other guests, agree with you—it is nice and comfortable and in a wonderful, accessible spot on Beaver lake with fantastic views We are sorry to hear you would not return, however, due to issues with the departure guidelines. These were made available before you rented the cabin, and you agreed to them when you reserved the dates. If you had concerns, we would have appreciated a phone call or e-mail beforehand rather than waiting until it was too late to do anything. We have always been able to work with guests when they contact us with a question or concern. As an example, this past summer renters called us with a concern that we were able to quickly fix, but we also refunded a full night’s rent due to the inconvenience it caused. We try to treat our guests as we like to be treated when we are on vacation. You were great guests; ones we like to have return year after year (as some do). I am sure we could have worked something out. We travel ourselves and have learned that a call to the owner generally solves any issue we have. We are still happy and glad, however, that you found our cabin to be a nice place in a great spot. Thank you.

Owner's Response: We are so very happy you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. We have tried to anticipate what guests will like and need so that they can truly relax and enjoy their time at the lake, so your comments are very affirming of our efforts. I hope you caught some fish. I am glad you want to come back. We offer discounts to returning guests so please do return. Thank you for taking the time to send this review. Much appreciated.

Lake house was 'ewwwww'

  • 1 of 5

The house was just run down, out of date...

1- from the mismatched rag-tag furniture that literally lined every single room

2 - to the greasy/grime on the couches (we used blankets from home to sit on when on the couches)

3- and the furniture on top of furniture (there were shelve units on top of tables); dirt and rocks under the indoor staircase? extension cords and plugs everywhere, as in everywhere.

4- to EVERY single imaginable surface literally covered with 'stuff' - you couldn't really use tables because you had to relocate all of this 'decor'

5- the mattresses upstairs and downstairs were stained, (horrible)

6- one set of sheets was so full of hair - we put a second set (a light blue) that was bleach stained... finally we went and bought new at WalMart... I understand guests are to wash the sheets and towels - but even the towels were covered in various hairs. (we left early and neglected to put our linens in the dryer accidentally)

We're all about fishing and lake houses - but.. no.

Owner's Response: I am so very sorry that you did not have a good experience during your visit. The cabin has been rented seasonally ( 4 months a year) since 2008, and yours is the first negative feedback received, so I am taking it very seriously. SummerSong started out as a one-room cabin many years ago and as owners came and went, they added on to it in a “house that topsy built” fashion. Some folks, like me, find this a charming feature in a lake cabin and was one of the reasons I purchased it 20 years addition to its fantastic views and best-on-the-lake access to the water. Someone even built an indoor garden feature—the rocks you reference under the staircase. True, there are plugs everywhere; this came at the request of guests with multiple electronic devices. With each guest having 1-2 devices, and generally 8 guests at a time—multiple plugs have been a must. The table on top of the table is actually a small hutch on the end of a kitchen cabinet. It holds cookbooks for extended stay guests who want to cook, coffee cups, pens/pencils, binoculars, etc. for easy access for guests. I have tried to decorate the cabin in the “charming, yet rustic” fashion referenced in the website content and clearly visible in the website photographs. Most guests want and appreciate a cabin/cottage-like décor, and this has been referenced in guest comments. Mismatched furniture is often prevalent, even trendy, in cabins (and I have some—for instance the large coffee table perfect for table games for children), but there are several matching items -- Twin beds, dining chairs, matching Basset chairs upstairs and down, matching linens/quilts on all beds from Company Store, matching sofa and loveseat upstairs, wicker hutch, dresser, and lamp and some antiques. I realize that tastes differ—what I might find charming for a cabin, you might consider “rag tag.” I sent a third party to the cabin today, and they could not find the mattress stains nor have any subsequent guests mentioned them. They found no issues with the sheets either. The queen mattress is only a year old and all mattresses have always had mattress pads. I do wish you had called me with your concerns so I could have worked with you to remedy them while you were there. SummerSong has been enjoyed by hundreds of people; I am sorry you were not among them.

Wonderful house with perfect location

  • 5 of 5

House slept 8 adults easily. Decks are fantastic. One of the most thoughtfully appointed homes we have rented. Owner quickly responded to all our inquiries. Water so close and and easily accessible that even I (that hadn't swam in a few years) enjoyed floating around! Lovely home and would highly recommend. Hope to return in the fall.
