About M. A. Shope
We purchased the property in 1999 when we were living in northwest Arkansas. Now, we live 3 hours away (to take care of my mother) and really wish there were more opportunities to visit and unwind sitting by the water with a good book. I have ALWAYS felt refreshed after a visit, even if it was only for a day. I really enjoy strolling the shoreline at twilight or getting in my little dingy at daybreak with a cup of coffee to quietly explore. I like taking naps in one of the several swings at SummerSong...just looking up into the leaf canopy of the oak trees is a wonder. There is nothing like nature to restore the spirit. SummerSong has always been a retreat from the busyness and noise of everyday life, and we are glad to be able to share this experience with others. We know you will enjoy the cabin. We are always anxious to do anything we can to make your time at the cabin just the best, so always call if you have any questions or concerns. Look forward to meeting you!

Why M. A. Shope chose Lowell
Thanks for considering SummerSong for your Beaver Lake getaway. We purchased the cabin in 1999 after looking at several properties on the lake. I like to swim, and at SummerSong I could just stop the lawnmower when I got hot and literally, "go jump in the lake" to cool off. I didn't want a place I had to access by car or navigate (sometimes scoot down) a long, steep path or driveway to the water. No long treks with tubes, floaters, etc. Just walk across the yard. Exactly what I wanted--an enchanting place to enjoy and to play. Also "Don't take your ego to the lake" is a quote that resonated with me. I was looking for a simple cabin that would lend itself to immediate relaxation and comfort.
What makes this Cabin unique
The cabin is truly “Right on the water!” The lake access is just about the best anywhere on Beaver Lake. Guests who have not been swimming in years have been coaxed into the water as the cabin is so close to the cabin. Also, the views are just FANTASTIC. There is an Immediate relaxing atmosphere when you arrive. We work on keeping the cabin stocked with items guests will need. A list is available by request. Excellent access for fishing. No drop-offs to worry over with children. Plenty of seating both indoors and out. There are four swings on the property. The upstairs deck has an extra-long one for those tall folks in the family to stretch out and nap. The front deck is great for getting that tan and enjoying a favorite beverage with friends or family. SummerSong started out as a one-room cabin many years ago and as owners came and went, they added on to it in a “house that topsy built” fashion. Some folks, like us, find this a charming feature in a lake cabin and was one of the reasons we purchased it 20 years ago...in addition to its fantastic views and best-on-the-lake access to the water. Someone even built an indoor garden feature—rocks under the staircase—that we have never used except to store plants in the winter. The kitchen cabinets are original to that first room. We decided to keep them rather than replace them with modern ones. Our other touches have been to re-do the upstairs bath (adding a deep, soaking tub), extend the upstairs deck to the carport, replace the kitchen and bath flooring and completely tile the downstairs and both entryways into the cabin. We hope to add a sleeping porch to the south side of the house soon.

Perfect Little Getaway
We were in awe with the house and the location on the lake. We appreciated the fact that the house was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the quiet and safe water front property. Most important the owner answered all questions immediately. She answered each phone call and was extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning. We also highly recommend this house for your next “right on the water” vacation.
Thank you so much for the lovely review. We are so pleased that you had such a wonderful experience at our cabin. Thanks also for your note about our conversations. I appreciate you calling me. I always tell folks to call or text....some do and some don't, but I genuinely love visiting with our guests and answering their questions. When we decided to share our cabin with others, it was with the hope that folks would enjoy it just as much as we have...Our small way of expanding peace into the world. Please consider coming back. We'd love to host you again!
Sweet cabin, nice location on the lake.
Thanks, Janis, for your kind review. We agree with you about the location....it's just about the best on Beaver Lake. I hope you will consider a return visit. We'd love to have you!
Best location ever if you love the water and have a boat. Easy to keep the boat pulled up.
Great place. Sit in the shade or in the sun. The cove was quiet and all ours most of the time. The house had all we needed and was very spacious. Only negative was having to put sheets on the beds and required to wash them before leaving. That was a big turnoff for people taking a vacation.
Tim. Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. I appreciate the comments regarding quiet privacy and that you enjoyed the cabin, finding it to be just right for what you needed. We understand about the linens. This has been an on-going issue for us as the services we used could not always fit our cleaning schedules or provide the quality we require. However, we have found another provider for the 2020 season...tried them out a couple of times in September this year and were pleased with the results. All that to say that future guests will no longer worry with the linens. Please consider coming back. We'd love to have you and your family once again.
Summer fun with grandchildren
The home was a perfect location for having water fun with children. There's a gentle slope to the water and plenty of shoreline for play. The home was the perfect size, very comfortable and cozy. I loved that the basic staples were there for cooking. We had lots of fun just sitting on the porch swing deck visiting . The living area is nice, big and open with lots of seating. My grandson caught 16 fish so it was a great fishing spot for kids. Something for consideration if you're considering this home for rental is that both bathrooms in the home are located in the bedrooms so depending on how many are in your group people will have to walk through the bedroom at night to use it. It didn't bother us at all but it might someone else. I gave it five stars because it really was a great home for having children at the lake. Thank you to the owners for creating such a comfortable family environment! I loved the eclectic feel of the cabin.
Thanks so much for taking time to write this review. I am especially pleased that the fishing was so good. My son has often fished right in front of the house. Because it is so open there, he learned to handle his fly rod with ease...no tree branches to catch it. We have seen lots of BIG catfish pulled out of the cove to the south. We are pleased you had such a great experience and want to invite you to come back.
Great stay. Not long enough. Coffee in front of the lake every morning with a cool breeze, birds singing and the sound of the water against the shore.
Seems you appreciate the same things that we do when at the cabin. Early morning coffee with great views from the deck sets the tone for the rest of the day. We have seen many species of birds, and we especially enjoy the Purple Martins in their house right in front of the cabin. So happy your stay was a good one. Please come back. Love to have great guests like you and your family.
Nice & Quiet
Home was very quaint and right on the lake. We spent an entire day swimming right off the shoreline with noodles provided by the owner (could use a few more of those).
Second day rented a boat at a local marina for tubing. Please note the marina across the lake from the home no longer rents boats so we had to drive to the northern part of Beaver Lake to find a marina.
Third day spent visiting local micro breweries. There are many highly rated within a 30 minute drive from this home. Good beer. Also a few wineries.
Overall the home is great. Please note is an older lake cabin home that has been expanded over the years. If you are looking for the Ritz this is not the place for you. If you are looking for something that reminds you of visits to your grandma's lake house book it.
Thanks, Lane, for taking time to review the property and add some great details for other guests. I do not have any info on craft breweries in our property notebook, but am adding same per your good suggestion. The area is blessed with some great venues. Regarding the noodles, they were not ours as our insurance requests that we not provide any kind of water craft or water toys.
I am guessing these were left by previous guests and somehow overlooked when cleaning up for you.
Apologies. Regarding the look of the property, I hope guests look carefully at the pictures so they get a pretty good idea what the cabin looks like, both inside and out. I agree, it's not the RITZ, but it is very clean, comfortable, cozy, and inviting. And the views are just outstanding as many guests have noted. I liked your word "quaint." Per your note to me, I do hope you come back. We really enjoyed hosting you. Cheers.
