The cabin was beautiful and had all the amenities one could want.

  • 5 of 5

The porch offered many views and proved to be where we spent most of our time. The hot tub was perfect after a long day of hiking. The kitchen also was well stocked with needed supplies. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven on earth.

Beautiful cabin with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Breathtaking views!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family weekend over Thanksgiving break. Truly enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and amazing views. There were six of us and the cabin had plenty of room for all of us. We loved going hiking on some of the local trails and visiting the local breweries. I was impressed with the kitchen supplies - we did a lot of cooking and the kitchen had everything we needed. This was our first visit to Lake Lure and we LOVED it!!

AWFUL

  • 1 of 5

We travel often internationally and domestically. Every year we rent a cabin in the mountains during leaf season to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

We really looked forward to staying at Sugar Bush cabin for wedding anniversary #49 because of the good reviews and how nice it looked on the internet. We were very disappointed with our stay and for the first time ever we ended our vacation early.

We know that nothing is perfect and we don't expect it to be. However, we were not comfortable living in a "fish bowel". The front door is full length glass and at night there is NO privacy. You can see the entire living area as well as the dining room and part of kitchen from the drive way. It looks like there were blinds on the door at one time but they were not replaced when taken down.

There is only one TV and it is a joke. There are 4 remotes and you must stand up to flip a channel or change the volume as the TV is up so high the remote signal does not get to it. The TV height is so awkward when watching your neck will start to hurt .

On the morning of the 2nd day of a 7 day stay, the handle of the kitchen faucet popped off when I was turning the water off. We called the owner and he said he was not surprised and that a maintenance worker will come by. Maintenance came promptly and the man informed us that the faucet has been broken for a long time and the fact that it was broken completely was of no surprise to him. He assured us that it was not our fault and knew this would eventually happen. He stated the entire faucet needed to be replaced and he called the owner to inform him. We never saw the maintenance man again. We did not have use of the kitchen faucet for the rest of our stay. We had to get water from the bathroom for cooking and cleaning up after meals. No one called back. Nothing! By day 5 we despised our stay so much we could not face another day at Sugar Bush. We decided to go home and salvage what was left of our anniversary. What a waste of time and money.

Owner's Response: Our version of events is completely in conflict with this guest and our near perfect 5 star rating from other guests (all reviews unsolicited) suggests that this 1 star rating is extreme. We did speak once on the phone and the guest was concerned that they had broken the kitchen handle. They also could not get the TV to work. I assured them that they would not be held responsible for the damage, that I was “not surprised” about the faucet – since, although a quality brand, it was 8 years old and had been used by hundreds of guests. I sent our maintenance man to fix immediately and help with the TV. He called me from the cabin and said that a part in the faucet handle had been broken but that he could insert a screw to make it work. No one EVER told them that the “faucet had been broken for a long time”. I ordered the broken part then personally took a new faucet (as backup) to the cabin to fix or replace and discovered that the faucet was inoperable. I immediately contacted the guest to apologize, state I was unaware that it was still broken, and offer some discount or compensation. We would never intentionally leave a guest without an operating kitchen faucet for any length of time! We do intend to install a stand for the 40” LCD TV over the stone fireplace mantle to allow it to be lowered, as that is a valid complaint. The universal remote will work the TV, satellite box and Blu-Ray player; we provide all remotes (and a backup) just in case. We do provide instructions and wish it could be easier and more intuitive. We did have blinds on the front door that were damaged severely by guests and could not find a practical replacement. The very nature of Sugarbush Cabin is “floor to ceiling” windows and sliding doors around the house for guests to enjoy the lake views, woods and tree canopy. The privacy is such that we have never had anyone walk up to our front door due to the remote (but convenient) location of Sugarbush Point in our secluded area of Lake Lure. We do regret the inconvenience caused to this guest and will follow up after all future service calls to ensure that any reported issue has been corrected.

The Best of Everything!

  • 5 of 5

We are extremely pleased with our visit to Lake Lure and Sugarbush Cabin. The view of the lake is beautiful in addition to being up in the trees. The setting is amazing and it has a rustic yet elegant appeal. The hot tub (which is cleaned between every stay) is surrounded with greenery as it is somewhat in its cozy alcove and set down a step or two from side deck. Great for stargazing at night! The kitchen is well stocked as well as linens, etc. The beds were VERY comfortable. Not too firm, not too soft. Just right like Goldilocks!!! I'm sure they were memory foam or similar. The gas grill is clean and convenient. We had a great time exploring the local area. Plenty of gift shops near Chimney Rock, just a short drive away. We rented a Pontoon boat at Washburn Marina right across from the beach. The beach is closed after Labor Day. They say you cannot fish from your rented pontoon but the employees were sweet and turned their heads and let us by with our poles. We had fun watching movies, playing poker and black jack and had a ping pong tournament. (We brought our own poker set.) There are plenty of books and games provided. We also brought or own large crock pot but there are nice large stock pots, cookie sheets, cocktail shakers and the like, whereas some rentals do not have. I cannot comment on the local restaurants as our plan was to eat in. There are also plenty of brochures and information on "what to do" in the area. Rob the owner was quick to respond and communicate during booking. There was no problems or reasons for us to call. If the only suggestion I have is to bring an extra roll of paper towels, I'm really digging to find something, as honestly everything was perfect in our opinion! Enjoy your stay!!!
