About Tom Worthen
My wife and I, immediately after getting married in 1985, purchased our second home in Jamaica Beach (Galveston). As other properties came available, we purchased them in hopes that someday our five kids would all want to have a 2nd house on the island. We built this house in 2004 and designed it to meet the needs of people who come to the beach to relax and have fun. There is no doubt that being able to get away to Galveston whenever we can has strengthen our marriage, because it automatically puts you in a festive mood when you arrive on the island. The best memories of our lives have been here in Galveston.
Tom Worthen purchased this House in 2004
Why Tom Worthen chose Jamaica Beach
The West End of Galveston is the place to own a vacation home. Most of the homes on the West End are second homes. It's isolated from all the traffic, crowds, restaurants, and all the other tourist attractions that people enjoy when they visit Galveston, yet your only 15 minutes away. The West End has a festive atmosphere and everyone is friendly. By 4:00 PM the BBQ pits start getting lit, and the margaritas and cold beer start flowing. There is nothing better than sitting on the deck drinking a good margarita and eating fajitas while you watch the beautiful sunset over the Bay.
What makes this House unique
With the house being on the canal, you can get up in the morning and fish off the deck while you enjoy the beautiful sunrise. During the day you can go to the beach and surf, swim, ride jet skis, fish, or just lay out and freshen your tan. If you want to stay at the house, you may just want to make you a good tropical drink and float in the the canal. Or for those days when it's a little to cool to get in the water, you can always lay around on the couch and read a good book. The bottom line, relaxation is the rule for every day in Jamaica Beach.

Thank you Amanda... glad you could stay at the house and enjoyed it!
Great house... but...
First off... I'm giving this 4 stars because of the details... the house itself is great. The house is well laid out and comfortable, it's the details that were annoying... such as the blender, its a $18 Walmart blender that has seen better days, lid don't fit , leaks like a sieve. I went and bought a new one to use. The kitchen is a mess with nothing organized, things just threw here and there, no sharp knifes..etc. let me clarify that I have rented several other rentals. I read check in instructions and what is provided and packed accordingly. Wifi instructions not up to date. On the second day I called manager/owner with concern on wifi , blender and towel bar. He did respond quickly with correct wifi info. Master bath had no hand towels, wash cloths...instructions said I needed to provide my own dish soap, which I did... I found two and half bottles in the rental and only one dishwasher soap pod. In reality not a huge ordeal , more of a nuisance to have to go buy some. When I could of been told to provide my own dishwasher soap. I will say that I have never rented a unit before where you must provide your own dishsoaps, paper towels and tp. There are many numerous things like this, such as no curtain for master bedroom balcony window door. You have a lovely balcony off the bedroom with a table but no chairs. You have a great closet but no hangers provided. It's the details... the BBQ, my goodness looks as if it was brought up from a ship wreck. You have such a fine house and location but it needs some management with the details. I know I could of messaged you about numerous things but frankly it's not how I wanted to spend my time. I could go on but I'm not going to, Overall nice house, great space, can't emphasis enough the details need attention.
Was everything we wanted and more!
This was the perfect home for a week for us! It was everything we were looking for and more. Hated havin to leave. Highly recommend this home!
I love this beach house
Awesome, plenty of room and peaceful and quiet neighborhood. This was the perfect beach getaway.
Chris...Thanks and glad you enjoyed your stay. See you again next year?
I think the property was decent, but I'm not sure I would stay there again.
The good: It was clean and right on the water. My husband spent a lot of hours enjoying fishing which was awesome. I had four adults and two children. It was plenty spacious with a master suite upstairs and two bedrooms and a full bathroom downstairs. The location was fine, I went back and forth to San Luis Resort for a conference everyday and it was about a 20 or so minute drive. The washer and dryer was a real plus for when we needed to wash the sand off our clothes. There is a large screen television downstairs that had cable, which everyone enjoyed. Jamaica Beach has a playground and community swimming pool for the kiddos.
The bad: We stayed for a week. On the next to last night, my daughter went downstairs and noticed that there was an infestation of some type of bug coming in through the open hole between the front door and the floor. There was a can of raid and Boric acid under the sink. There were literally thousands of these tiny insects outside the front door, coming in through the hole opening. We had previously put down towels to keep the heavy rains out, but nothing kept these bugs out. They were everywhere. We cut our trip short. There are no curtains on the full length glass balcony door upstairs. And you have two houses across the canal that can look right in. The walk-in shower (which appears to be a great feature) has a broken showerhead so the only way you can use it is to hand hold it. I had to do some computer work in the house and the internet was pretty terrible, basically useless. We reset the router and still nothing. This is probably good for the kids, but when I was needing to work, I had to go to the hotel, which was inconvenient. The bed in the master bedroom sagged badly. It almost felt like a fold away bed, it was so springy.
Again, not horrible. If it were the only home available, I wouldn't have any issues staying there. But there are so many other rentals in the area, I was just a little disappointed.
Great House for a Getaway!
The house is very clean and well taken care of. Very spacious! The decks are great and you can float and swim in the canal or head down the road to the beach. We loved it! Highly recommended!
