We have so enjoyed our stay in your yurt, and I'm truly amazed every morning by the surrounding beauty right outside your door. Thanks again for sharing your home with us - I think it's the coolest place I've ever stayed.

Unique stay in a gorgeous setting

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent two nights here with our pup on our way to Utah, and it was a unique, fun and relaxing stay. In the afternoon it got a wee bit warm, but it wasn't unbearable. Kitchen was well-stocked with utensils and equipment, but bring everything you need to cook. We enjoyed the collection of 80s and 90s DVDs, and even the VHS (wut) tapes. Our pup loved sniffing around the land and joined the nearby coyotes in a howling festival one night.

The yurt is ~10 minutes from Woodland Park, so you can get groceries or whatever else you need. Like maybe you take a hike and then want Burger King? We definitely didn't do that... nope, no way, not us.

This was the first stop of five on our trip, and we want to come back here the most.

My legit only complaint probably can't be helped, but there were a *lot* of flies. Every morning they'd collect in their fly party zone behind the curtain on the double doors and we'd let them out into the wild. They'd show back up throughout the day and buzz around, and we'd do the same thing. Meh. First world problems.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

  • 4 of 5

This is a mixed review since there were several good things, and several not-so-good.

First, the good: Beautiful setting, secluded and quiet (for the most part except for the loud jerks on four-wheelers in the middle of the night racing and revving up and down the road). There is not actually a view of Pike's Peak as advertised, but the scenery is beautiful nonetheless. The inside of the large yurt is well laid out and we especially enjoyed the spacious shower and the desk area and living space. The kitchen is well stocked as is the bathroom.

The bad: windows are small and do not open. They are unfinished and you can see the insulation. The deck doesn't go all the way around and there is only a small porch in back to enjoy the view. The wi-fi is extremely slow and most of the time we couldn't get on because it took forever for anything to load. It is even slower than dialup. The bed was lumpy and not very comfortable.

The ugly: this was advertised as having a washer and we planned accordingly when packing....but there is no washer. There was supposed to be cell phone reception, but there was no signal at all either inside or outside in any spot. The bed was advertised as a sleep number, but it is not.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and were happy with the accommodations, but we were disappointed with the misrepresentation of several key amenities. It may not have made a difference as to whether or not we rented, but it isn't fair to not be able to make an informed decision as to whether or not it is worth the cost.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the thorough review! As you may imagine, managing my property from afar has its distinct challenges and I rely on my guests to keep me informed on how to make the stay all that you hope for .. and more. I'll try to address the comments here but if there's ever any question, please feel free to email me directly. Pikes Peak is visible from the side deck, small spot to view it, but it's there I promise! Windows small and insulated - this is the trade-off I made to ensure that the yurt stayed warm year-round. I lived in the small yurt without any added insulation - it got mighty chilly on those cold nights. WiFi - it's satellite and yes, it's slow, but I have the best internet you can get for being on the edge of the wilderness... I ask every year if there's anything new/faster, but nothing yet. Cell service is spotty, but I've never heard of anyone getting no service at all, but not much I can do, that's really a factor of your phone and carrier. The bed used to be a sleep number, but had to be replaced... I thought the listing reflected this, but it must still be listed somewhere! I have tried three beds since, this is tough to please all of my guests, it's a pretty subjective feature. Sadly the washer/dryer was stolen ... I updated references to remove it, but must have missed it here as well. I would like to have this and other ammenities for my guests, but have had a number of things stolen that it makes it challenging to sustain. Thank you again for the response and I will make sure to update all the listings accordingly! Happy travels! -Melinda, owner
