This cozy lake side camp sits nestled in a private hollow 15 ft from the lakes edge. There is a stream flowing along side the camp leading to a clean lake (2 mi. x 1/4 mi). There is privacy on this 4 acre lot with easy access to the main road. There is plenty of fishing and hiking at the quintessential Maine vacation getaway.
Really couldn't have asked for much more. The cabin is cozy, but doesn't feel small. There were 4 of us and it never seemed cramped. The deck and fire pit create an outdoor area equally, if not more, inviting. The pond, docks and boats were, of course, the stars of the show - swimming, kayaking or just sitting on the dock with a cup of coffee in the morning or a drink at sunset. Was afraid the water would be freezing, but was delightful.
The area is very peaceful and when the little brook is babbling it's kind of magical sitting on the deck listening. The traffic across the pond can sometimes be heard, but not to the point of distraction.
John has clearly put a lot of work into the cabin and grounds and we all felt at home very quickly. Ipod hookup to inside and outside speakers was much appreciated.
One of the other reviews mentioned no microwave, but that has been remedied. They are correct about the cell phone reception – it’s spotty (at least as an AT&T customer). I think that’s a plus, but be prepared if the phone is your umbilical cord to facebook or the like.
I don’t really write reviews on places I go and visit, but I loved this place so much, I want everyone to enjoy the experiences I enjoyed. This place has everything! The house is a quaint cottage in the woods, with all the amenities one would have in their own home and still has its own charm with all the antique details. You really feel like you are in your own world here.
Every day we would wake up to the beautiful scenery of the woods and lake. The lake is right in your backyard, where you have excellent fishing, or you can relax on the octagon dock, go swimming off the lake’s floating dock, or even take a kayak or boat for a ride. There is a beautiful wraparound porch where we enjoyed looking at lake, bonfire, and listening to the stream running right along the side of the house (perfect place for a morning cup of coffee). At night, we would sit around the bonfire, relax and watch the beautiful sunset over the lake. We couldn’t believe we could find a place like this only a little over 2 hours from Boston! I can’t wait to go back again this fall!
After searching many properties in Maine we came upon Loon's Nest. The owner was very attentive and responded to my many questions very attentively. It was located in an area with lots of places to explore, hike, and sight see. We've also never been in an area with so many great burger and ice cream spots. Our two dogs loved being able to swim only steps outside the our door. The property itself had many amenities such as large dock, two kayaks, flat screen t.v., well stocked kitchen, overall cleanliness, and many additional activities left for visitors to use ie. games, puzzles, books. The outside deck, covered porch, and living room provided great places to dine, read, or observe the crystal clear lake. We were pleasantly surprised how quickly we felt at home in the many cozy areas the house provided. As the week went on we learned to live without a toaster, micro-wave, and total quiet brought about because of the nearby road noise from across the lake on Rte 4. Sorry the stream wasn't running during our visit. Still, it was a memorable place to spend our 25th anniversary!
We really enjoyed our week's vacation at Loon's Rest. Each year we rent a different property in a different area of Maine, and this property was excellent. The cabin is beautiful and cozy with a great deck. The water conditions were terrific because it had a rocky bottom and no weeds! Loved the floating dock! The property is extremely well taken care of, and it is obvious that the owner takes pride in his property. We were also very lucky to have a perfect week of incredible weather. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Loons Rest was a great vacation spot. The house was very comfortable and nice private location. Lake was beautiful and we had a great week!
The cabin was great. My new wife and I fell in love with it the moment we first drove up. The view of the lake was beautiful. The cabin was well cleaned and stocked when we arrived and the decor made the cabin very peaceful. We loved spending time out by the lake on the dock. It was very relaxing and quite. We drove to the coast and enjoyed seeing the Atlantic ocean. We also really enjoyed kayaking and swimming, along with cooking on the grill and making smores over the campfire. The weather was perfect for being outdoors. We plan to visit again for anniversary in the future.
