About Richard Deslongchamps
Here at Moosetracks we try to do only one thing and do that well: We provide our guests with comfortable, clean, reasonably priced vacation cottages in a serene pond-side setting. Our guests enjoy spacious fully equipped rustically modern cottages surrounded by acres of private woodlands, wildlife habitat and mountain scenery. All this and only a few minutes from Greenville and all the recreational activities the area has to offer.
Why Richard Deslongchamps chose Northwest Piscataquis
Small towns are unique in that everyone knows everyone and everyone looks out for everyone else. There was a natural gravitation towards Greenville for that reason. Here we know our neighbors, people wave at each other when passing on the road.
What makes this Cabin unique
Started in the winter of 2000/01, Birch Overlook Cabin was designed to be a vacation rental retreat from the start. We modified a log home plan to give us an open sunny space with a nook and crannies look overhead. Of course a modern vacation cottage had to have central heating, full bath and fully equipped kitchen. Furnishing a “North Woods” cabin required a combination of campy and rustic cedar furniture. There’s even a collection of antique coffee pots displayed above the kitchen cabinets. A trail winds down thru the woods to a private dock just for this cottage. Across the parking area sits a huge rock left by the last glacier. The real uniqueness of this property is that over 90% of our ponds shoreline can never be developed thanks to conservation minded land owners. These same landowners allow us to maintain marked trails thru the woods for hiking, snowshoeing and wildlife viewing. Although we are only 6 miles from town the feeling of the pond and woods along with the wildlife makes one think you are much more remote.

Birch Overlook was wonderful. Spotless, perfect location on Prong Pond, great hiking nearby, great private dock with canoe and kayak, sitting outside on the deck at night listening to the loons was probably my favorite, other than seeing two moose right down the road. The dogs had a great time too. We also took the long way home back to RI and saw a huge bull moose on Route 201. Thank you very much, we had a great experience staying at birch Overlook and would definitely go back.

Justin and Family,
I am so glad you had a great time! The moose sightings are so incredible and what a bonus to see three. The loons have a nest not far off shore and like to entertain the guests. We are so glad you and the family enjoyed our small part of paradise. Please come back again!
Quality cabin in quiet setting
Very clean, quality-built cabin in a very quiet setting. We made use of the kayak available (also a canoe) from the cabin's private dock. Everything as described. We enjoyed our stay!
Great place So quiet you can hear bugs fly! Awesome!
Was a nice cabin
Cabin was very nice . Better than expected . Would stay again
We enjoyed our quiet time at the cabin and especially sitting on the dock listening to the loons!
Great home base for Moosehead exploration
We had a wonderful week here. The cabin was absolutely spotless and had everything we needed, including extra towels and a well appointed kitchen. The grounds were very well maintained. Many flowers were blooming, the lawn was freshly mown, and the paths were all clear. There are several communal areas (a firepit area with benches and some outside sitting/eating areas), but we never saw anyone using them. The Birch Overlook and Prong Mountain cabins are close to each other, but they are angled so that the large back decks have complete privacy. Each has its own private dock with a canoe and tandem kayak, just a short walk down to the lake through the trees. My daughter spent much of her time fishing with great success from the dock (mostly little ones caught with trout worms--but she doesn't cast very far). The owners welcomed our dog, who loved wading in Prong Pond. The location was fantastic--just a few minutes from the Beaver Cove Marina and Lily Bay State Park and only 20 minutes or so from the restaurants, gas station, and grocery store in Greenville. We were far enough from the Lily Bay Road that it was eerily quiet (except for the sounds of nature, of course). We loved it and would absolutely stay here again on our next trip to the Moosehead area.
As you leave the endless traffic lights, strip malls and Wal-Marts behind, you will travel thru lightly populated rural Maine to Greenville. Once here you are now in a small outpost town at the edge of the 'Great North Woods'. It is different here; small shops, plaid flannel shirt diners and a couple of wilderness outfitters. Around you are Maine's largest lakes and numerous smaller ponds along with the headwaters of several notable rivers including the Allagash. Mt. Katahdin, just to our north, anchors the northern end of the Appalachian Mtn. chain. Surrounding you are several million acres of working forests, home to the 'American Loggers'. The only traffic jams here are for moose sightings. And this is a recreational wonderland; canoeing/kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, climbing, ATV and snowmobile trails, not to mention fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing. We will refer you to our website for detailed turn by turn directions to Birch Overlook Cabin when needed.
