Why Roger Jenkins chose Bakersville
Having grown up as a child nearby, when this property came up for sale, I quickly bought it. Because of my work, I have been privileged to travel all over the world, but have found no spot as beautiful as these mountains and streams here in Buladean.
What makes this House unique
- Minutes from Appalachian Trail - Walk across street to have access to trophy trout stream with beautiful brook, rainbow, and brown trout. - 10 minutes from rafting and water tubing. - 30 minutes to Roan Mountain State Park with swimming, tennis, fishing, hiking, picnic'ing'. - 30 minutes from the top of Roan Mountain - with the world's largest natural display of rhododendron. -30 minutes from Penland School - one hour from skiing at Beech and Sugar Mountains in Boone and Blowing Rock. - one hour from Biltmore House in Asheville - peaceful, quiet, and wrapped in natural beauty.

A Peace Of Heaven
You must take time to spend time at the cabin. I have visited and stayed at many places, but this is one of a kind. Beautiful, lovely, perfect, lost in the mountains so you can sit and enjoy God’s beauty. Everything thing we did and enjoyed was great. Our host, Roger Jenkins was amazing and made us feel like we were at home.
These folks came to visit the historic national Jonesborough Story Telling Festival and enjoyed their stay in the mountains and were thrilled they only had to drive 45 minutes from this get away to Jonesborough ..... and at less than half the price of similar housing there. Look forward to having this special family join the repeat guests family
Wonderful Vacation with our Boys
We had a lovely stay at our little mountain house. It was clean and comfortable with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was close enough to enjoy many local adventures and was a wonderful place to come home and relax after a long day of fun. Our two little boys had a blast!
Wonderful mountain retreat
My wife, daughter and our friend had the best time at the Toobie Hole cottage. The cottage is well equipped with a very nice decorum and the outdoors is meticulously well maintained with a deck over a babbling brook that is mesmerizing. We enjoyed a day hike on the AT and exploring our surroundings. The owner is very attentive and checks in to make sure your stay is going well. More trips to the Toobie Hole are forecasted in our future!
I always look forward to meeting and visiting with each guest, but this time I missed this beautiful family. I did talk with them a couple of times to make sure they didn't need anything or have any questions. The most beautiful part of the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine is only 30 minutes from the Cottage - the portion on top of the Roan Mountain they call "The Balds," because you can hike thru meadows (bald mountains) at the top of Roan mountain and see 360 views forever!
Home away from home
For the third time in less than a year, I have stayed at the Toobie Hole Cottage. To say that this beautiful home and property have become like a second home to me would be an understatement. My husband and I and another couple have stayed there twice, and this last time a dear friend of mine and my daughter went for a girls' weekend. They loved it as much as I do. The house is so comfortable and welcoming, and the property is absolutely beautiful. There's a butterfly bush next to the driveway and there were so many butterflies on it every day that it looked like the bush itself was alive. Sitting out on the deck that's built over the stream in the backyard is a must. It's incredibly relaxing, and I enjoyed watching the hummingbirds that come to the feeder out there. I can't recommend this property highly enough. Roger Jenkins is so kind and always available for any questions you may have. He makes sure that his guests are comfortable, that all their needs are met, and even provides all sorts of goodies for their enjoyment. If you're going to be in the Bakersville area -- or even if you're not -- you should definitely make it a point to stay at the Toobie Hole Cottage. Just don't be mad at me if you can't because I'm already there!
Reading this review gives me a warm glow. Such a joy to have guests enjoy every detail one puts into the equation. Most of my guests are return guests and extended family.
Relaxing the days away
Very nice, clean and relaxing. The stream behind the house was so relaxing. Big sleigh bed in master was very comfortable. Come and relax and enjoy the coolness of the mountains.
This family enjoyed picking their own blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries and also caught several trout. The kids loved the creek.
Great to see a family have so much fun.
Second Time's the Charm!
This was our second stay at the Toobie Hole Cottage, and it was just as charming and delightful as the first. My husband and I and another couple enjoyed the home and the area so much on our first visit, we were already planning to return before we left! On our initial trip last November, we were able to enjoy the fall foliage and scenery, and this summer trip allowed us to enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants that surround the cottage. I've utilized VRBO on many occasions, and this is absolutely my favorite place to stay. Roger Jenkins is always available for any questions we have, and he provides everything possible to make you feel welcome and comfortable. If you're looking for a vacation "home away from home," I would definitely recommend the Toobie Hole Cottage as the place to stay! I have no doubt we'll be back!
Sadly I was on vacation and missed the opportunity to welcome Terri and Friends. Rasberries were getting ripe but a week or so early for the blackberries. Everyone loves the berry patch. Peaches and plums from the orchard a few feet from the house not quite ready either. Music to my ears that the second visit was even more fun!
Buladean is a tiny community located sixty miles northeast of Asheville in the majestic Unaka Mountain Range. It is situated in Mitchell County, which is well known for its incredible scenery and naturally occurring Rhododendron gardens. Buladean is a lovely place to get away from it all, yet a convenient location to many of North Carolina's most exciting attractions. The Roan Mountain (just 20 minutes away) has world class hiking trails including the most highly rated section of the Appalachian Trail. One can also get on the AT at two other places, both within 10 minutes of the house.
The North Toe River flows through the county and joins the Nolichucky River, known as one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the country. Just a few of the other activities available in the area include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, canoe trips and downhill skiing. For those wanting relaxation, it's also the ideal location to catch up on reading amidst scenic views. Buladean is just a short drive to Roan Mountain State Park, Grandfather Mountain, the Appalachian Trail and Linville Falls. For great descriptions and videos of things to do and see in the area, please go to Facebook and "Friend" Buladean Rentals to really get a feel for what's in store for you.
