Exquisitely furnished country home and perfect getaway.

  • 5 of 5

There is good reason this home/property consistently gets a top 5 star ranking - from the fully (like in your own home) furnished kitchen to the old Persian carpets, to the down pillows and high quality bedding, to the marvelous deck over the babbling brook creek where you can enjoy coffee/breakfast, lunch, or wine/dinner ......... GREAT in every way. Sitting on four acres in the country with a large beautiful meadow lined with rail fence, it is quiet, peaceful, and completely relaxing. The owners were extremely helpful in suggesting places to go, places to eat, or things to do and when we arrived we found a delightful plate of the best homemade brownies we've ever eaten! We'll be back for sure!

Owner's Response: This couple enjoys the Cottage several times a year solely to do trout fishing! And he's quite a good fly fisherman! Always fun to have them.

Exactly as described. Clean, bright, functional with the added bonus of surprise treats!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed the peace and quiet. Our host was most generous with the supply of delightful pastry surprises left on the doorstep.

Owner's Response: This couple spent 11 nights at the Cottage and enjoyed every day! In fact, they lost track of time and when they didn't check out today as was scheduled, I didn't know what had happened. The cleaning lady showed up and called me to say, "they're to gone; they're still here." I called them (they were in Asheville) to find out what had happened and they sheepfaced apologized that they thought they were staying another night and had lost track of time! Fortunately, I moved my next couple coming in to another home, rescheduled the cleaning lady, and told the couple to enjoy one more night - NEVER end a wonderful vacation on a sour note!

Clean, comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

This home is located in the mountains and was the perfect stay for us. We were able to take easy day trips from this home and see all the beautiful views in the area. The home was clean and had a really comfy king bed!! It had everything needed and the owners were very kind. They not only provided tips on what to see and where to eat but also dropped off home baked goods for our visit :)

It was a wonderful place to stay and tour the blue ridge mountains.

Owner's Response: Some guests come and never leave the house and property because the environment is so peaceful and relaxing and reading a book while sitting the deck over the creek and watching/hearing the steam is enough of a vacation in and of itself. However, others are rarely at home, and use it as a sleeping base only. Such was the case with this fun couple. One day they did the Boone/blowing Rock/Grandfather Mountain/Linville trip, coming back on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Next day they did the day trip to Asheville to see Biltmore House, Grove Park Inn, etc.

Pictures don't do it justice

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the welcome that we encountered inside and the subtle quiet and beauty encountered outside. We hiked on the AT, visited Burnesville, and just enjoyed vegging on the deck with the stream gurgling below us. Thanks for providing us with such a memorable weekend.

Owner's Response: This couple, like every one before them, enjoyed having morning coffee and evening wine sitting on the deck overlooking the babbling brook steam. This couple left the home as immaculate as they found it, and I am grateful for the love and care. The home is kept pristine clean (due to several return physician guests each year who have allergies) and this exceptionally nice couple noticed all the special touches inside the house - from oriental carpets, to antique pieces. Look forward to having them back soon.

Owner's Response: These guests came from Miami to escape the hurricane (Irma). After they arrived, they called to ask if their cousin and three children (under 5) could join them. I couldn't say no, although having three children under five and four adults in the home was really overloading the space and amenities of the home, causing things to be left less than perfect. But sometimes one has to be flexible to help those in need! I am grateful their home and belongings in Miami were not damaged in any way! And I introduced more Miamians to the NC mountains!

Breath of Fresh Air

  • 5 of 5

Cozy cottage and absolute beautiful property! Just wish our stay was longer. The chocolate chip cookies were a added bonus and delicious. Roger and his brother were both wonderful responding and answering any questions you may have in a timely manner. Cottage was well stocked and clean. The perfect place if you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle, yet close enough to enjoy lots of mountain attractions. Our family would highly recommend Grand Father Mountain, The Orchard at Altapass and Roan Mountain to name a few. Our children enjoyed Gem Mountain Gemstone Mine and ziplining :) Can't wait to return!

Owner's Response: Sadly, I did not get to meet this wonderful family, because I was also on vacation. However, the lady who cares for the home said she had never seen a family leave the home cleaner and more spic-and-span! When someone treats a rental home as they do their own, nothing makes me happier. I just returned from a VBRO rental in Sea Island, Georgia and I left it just as I walked in. Interesting though, on this home I rented (and paid $700 per night), the bed linens and towels were nothing like mine here at the Cottage; the kitchen was so poorly supplied compared to mine here; there was no shampoo or toiletries; not even soap to wash dishes or extra paper towels. I really do appreciate now that mine is like you walk into someone's home who just stepped away. EVERYTHING you need is there, especially if you are a cook. So happy they enjoyed Gem Mining, Grandfather Mountain, and the Orchard. Jarret's Orchrd in Roan Mountain is open now, and they have wonderful apples. From the Cottage, it is only an hour to Boone/Blowing Rock (Grandfather Mountain), an hour to Asheville (to see Biltmore House) and only 35 minutes from Johnson City for movies, theaters, shopping, etc.
