We stayed here in August 2016 and had an absolutely wonderful week! I’ve broken down the review into parts. Read the whole thing or skip to the end for a quick summary.
Home / Property
Very well kept and very well stocked. It includes all the comforts of home. There’s basic cable and internet access if you need it. There’s no dedicated dining room but there are lots of places to sit, eat, visit, etc. The outside deck is nice and overlooks the lake. The house is nestled in some very mature pine trees which offer a lot of shade from the summer sun. The pictures show a small beach but the water level was higher when we were there. Not a big deal but worth noting. There’s only one bathroom but we knew that going in and it was never an issue. The bathroom does have dual sinks which was nice. There’s a traditional mattress and a sleep number mattress. The traditional one was very comfortable. The sleep number one we never got the hang of. That might have been user error though. The pull outs in the living room are comfy as pull outs go. There are a surprising number of chickens adorning the cottage which we found charming.
Spider Lake is great for fishing, water sports, or just relaxation. If you come here you really owe it to yourself to rent the pontoon. We had fun everyday just tooling around the lake and hanging out at the DNR island in the middle of the lake. It’s a great place to relax, wade around, and our son loved playing on the beach there. There are a lot of coves and inlets that make for an interesting ride around the lake. The lake isn’t so small you get bored but not so big that it takes a long time to get back home.
There isn’t a ton right around Spider Lake. It’s pretty rural and laid back which is what we wanted. Traverse City is about 20 minutes away. Glen Arbor is about 45 minutes away. I guess what I’m trying to say is that within a short drive there’s A LOT of things to do and see.
Some of the non-stick pans are a bit tired. Some additional plastic spatulas would be helpful. A lot of the knives were pretty tired too. None of this stopped us from having a great time, just FYI.
This is a very well stocked cottage that gives you all the comforts of home. The rural lake setting is easily changed by a quick drive into Traverse City where there are a ton of attractions. The pontoon is a must to enjoy everything Spider Lake has to offer. The owner was very easy to work with and very accommodating. T
A slice of paradise! Very nice and relaxing. The place is spotlessly clean and immaculately keep. I especially enjoyed sipping my coffee in the morning while sitting in front of the front window staring at the water and beautiful mornings. We used the available pontoon boat one day and greatly enjoyed just "putt-putting" around the lake while visiting with family. Definitely recommend to others (providing I'm not already there!).
Everything is here!!!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful "cottage" with us......with all of the comforts of home and more!!! This is a beautiful spot with a complete and modern kitchen, bath, comfortable beds, living room wtih quiet morning lake view and fun library, deck, dock, and fun, fun pontoon boat ride. What did we enjoy most about our stay? Comfort. Or the lake and trees' beauty around us. Or the attention of the caretaker, Kim. We're looking forward to our next TC area visit and stay at the cottage Thank you.
We rented this house for just the weekend because we had a wedding to go to at the Grand Traverse. Had we known what we were getting, we would've reserved for the entire week. This house has absolutely everything you need.. Internet, computer, food in pantry, games, books, the pantry in the bathroom has every type of first aid you need. The house is super clean and comfortable... the caretaker is super friendly and helpful. We couldn't believe the boats, paddleboats, and everything available for the price we paid. We are planning to rent the property again. We have highly recommended this property to all our friends and family and would recommend it to everyone.
Thank you Lynda for allowing us to stay at your awesome home.

We enjoyed our week at Spider Lake very much. It was a quiet, relaxing week. We rented the pontoon boat and are very glad that we did. We spent several hours each day swimming and diving and soaking up the sun out on the lake. Near the dock was very weedy, making swimming undesirable there. The home was well stocked in the kitchen and had plenty of bath towels. (we brought our own beach towels, there were only a few at the cottage) It was nice to have a washer and dryer available. Only a few minor glitches (like not enough toilet paper and smelly stove).
Located in the heart of the Pere Marquette Forest, Spider Lake is an all sports lake in an area with abundant recreational activities including the National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Film Festival, Great Lakes sailing/fishing, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and quaint village shopping. Two major casinos are nearby as well as world-class golfing, and premier events sponsored by Northwestern Michigan College.
Other Activities: Go Carts, Water Slides, Miniture Golf
