About Doug Sidell
My name is Doug Sidell and I have a passion for life and for what I do! I'm a real estate broker and investor. I represent buyers and sellers of virtually all types of real estate in the Charlotte/Lake Norman area in North Carolina. My primary residence is in Denver, NC and my business is simply named after me: C. Douglas Sidell & Co. I graduated with undergraduate and MBA degrees from Michigan State University and absolutely love following the Spartans in basketball and football. Most of my free time is spent with my wife, Krista, who is a nurse practitioner at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte (and an alumnus of The Ohio State University), our son, Noah, and daughters Anna Faith and Lexi Ann. Some of my other free time is spent fly fishing, upland bird hunting, golfing, cooking, reading, traveling, kayaking, and working on just about anything around the home and Christmas Tree Farm!
Doug Sidell purchased this Cabin in 2006
Why Doug Sidell chose Cheboygan County
We didn't buy our vacation cabin, we built it! It is a home I (Doug) designed and built in 2006 on the most perfect piece of Sturgeon River property. I (Doug) chose to buy the land because it is so close to everything that is fun to do in Northern Michigan and because it would enable me to build the type of home I was looking to construct. The finished product is a three-story cabin with a finished, walk-out lower level, a main floor that's set up perfectly for entertaining inside and out, an upstairs that is well-suited for kids and adults, and views of the Sturgeon River just 50' in back of the house. There is a never ending supply of fun things to do; especially for families with children. A few that are really high on our list include: kayaking, fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing, boating, snowmobiling, biking, hiking, ATV & motorcycle riding, X-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, etc. and it's all just outside the front door of my cabin. I love it! I hope you will to.
What makes this Cabin unique
Some unique benefits I enjoy while staying at our cabin on the river include, but are not limited to: peace and quiet; late-night bonfires at the river; lots of room for all my guests/family members; space for the dogs to run around; relaxing in the cedar sauna; playing some of my favorite golf courses all within a 30 minute drive; cooking/BBQing big meals; watching movies on the big screen TV; listening to the birds early in the morning while drinking coffee on the deck; catching trout right in back of the house; riding our 4 Wheeler through all the back-country trails just outside the cabin; taking advantage of all the freedom!

Gorgeous cabin on the river
We had a big family vacation (3 siblings with spouses and kids) for a full week. Plenty of sleeping space, bathrooms, and a large common space made this cabin functional. Up north decor, fully furnished kitchen, washer & dryer, kayaks, hammock by the river, and outdoor space exceeded expectations. Perfect location for the various day trips we took (UP Taquammenon, Oswald Bear Ranch, Mackinaw City, Petoskey), and minutes from Burt Lake state park. We did two river trips, one with tubes and one with rafts. And a couple of us kayaked to Burt Lake and met the rest of the party at the beach.
We had an issue with odor from the dry sewer trap, but Doug was highly responsive to our needs and the problem was fixed. The caretakers lived just down the road and were able to react quickly.
Overall, we would highly recommend The Sidell Cabin to larger parties (slept 10 very comfortably) interested in taking advantage of the many activities the area offers.

3rd time stay
This mini-vacation was our third time at the Sidell's Cabin. Every time we go up there we have great time. The house is clean and warm. This time we had little kids with us, and they loved it. There were so many kids books and games for them in the house. (THANKS) I am never disappointed when we visit. 💕💕
Spacious beautiful home
Great house in a beautiful setting! We really enjoyed our stay here while we skied!
Thank you for taking great care of our cabin during your stay. It means everything to us to have guests who treat our vacation home as if it were there own. You and your family are always welcome to stay at our cabin if you're ever visiting Northern Michigan again!

Beautiful cabin! It's even better in person than in the pictures
Our experience was wonderful. It was everything we hoped to enjoy & more!
Thank you for the great review, Kelly. You and your family were a pleasure to have as guests at our cabin. You're always welcome to stay whenever you're traveling to Northern Michigan on vacation!
Great cabin and owner, I plan on booking here every year!
Outstanding property and terrific location!
Once again a terrific vacation at Sidell's log cabin! Cabin was immaculate as always. So much room for our group to spread out and relax. A very picturesque location on the Sturgeon River. The kitchen is well stocked with just about anything needed to create your meals. The large island in the kitchen is perfect for meal prep and to present buffet-style dining for larger groups.
3 full bathrooms, shower/bath combos in all, with plenty of thick towels for a crowd. Very comfortable beds, even the bunks, in every bedroom and in the loft area.
The enormous deck facing the river and the firepit down at the river were put to use every day/night.
The location of the this cabin makes it perfect for day trips to not only Indian River but to other of the many quaint towns in the area. There's a terrific grocery store approx. 2 miles down the road so no need to haul a bunch of food from home.
We hadn't stayed at Doug's cabin for a few years due to our stays in other areas in northern Michigan and the UP. Our group unanimously agreed that we needed to vacation in Indian River this year and a MAJOR reason was due in part to this cabin and all of its amenities!!!
We are already counting down the days until we can return to this beautiful location! The ONLY negative reagarding our vacation this year is that it had to end. :(
Thanks Doug for everything. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time at your cabin!!!!
Other Activities: kayaking, snow boarding, snowmobiling, miniature golf
Golf: All the major N. Michigan golf clubs are close by! Some of these clubs include Bay Harbor, Little Traverse Bay, The Crooked Tree, Treetops, Marsh Ridge, Otsego Club, Michaywe, Black Lake, True North, and of course, the Indian River Golf Club.
Ski: Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, and Nubs Knob are all about 30 minute from the cabin!
