My name is Doug Sidell and I have a passion for life and for what I do! I'm a real estate broker and investor. I represent buyers and sellers of virtually all types of real estate in the Charlotte/Lake Norman area in North Carolina. My primary residence is in Denver, NC and my business is simply named after me: C. Douglas Sidell & Co. I graduated with undergraduate and MBA degrees from Michigan State University and absolutely love following the Spartans in basketball and football. Most of my free time is spent with my wife, Krista, who is a nurse practitioner at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte (and an alumnus of The Ohio State University), our son, Noah, and daughters Anna Faith and Lexi Ann. Some of my other free time is spent fly fishing, upland bird hunting, golfing, cooking, reading, traveling, kayaking, and working on just about anything around the home and Christmas Tree Farm!
Doug Sidell purchased this cabin in 2006
We didn't buy our vacation cabin, we built it! It is a home I (Doug) designed and built in 2006 on the most perfect piece of Sturgeon River property. I (Doug) chose to buy the land because it is so close to everything that is fun to do in Northern Michigan and because it would enable me to build the type of home I was looking to construct. The finished product is a three-story cabin with a finished, walk-out lower level, a main floor that's set up perfectly for entertaining inside and out, an upstairs that is well-suited for kids and adults, and views of the Sturgeon River just 50' in back of the house. There is a never ending supply of fun things to do; especially for families with children. A few that are really high on our list include: kayaking, fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing, boating, snowmobiling, biking, hiking, ATV & motorcycle riding, X-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, etc. and it's all just outside the front door of my cabin. I love it! I hope you will to.
Some unique benefits I enjoy while staying at our cabin on the river include, but are not limited to: peace and quiet; late-night bonfires at the river; lots of room for all my guests/family members; space for the dogs to run around; relaxing in the cedar sauna; playing some of my favorite golf courses all within a 30 minute drive; cooking/BBQing big meals; watching movies on the big screen TV; listening to the birds early in the morning while drinking coffee on the deck; catching trout right in back of the house; riding our 4 Wheeler through all the back-country trails just outside the cabin; taking advantage of all the freedom!

Our family really enjoyed staying at Doug's cabin! It was perfect. We really enjoyed all the fun things to do in the Indian River area. Some of us kayaked, some biked the trails (right close to the cabin), some played golf. The hot tub and sauna were super popular too; sat in both most every night. What was especially meaningful to us is how well-decorated the cabin is with very nice furnishings and all the space. Of course the bonfire pit near the river was relaxing for us, too. We all highly recommend this cabin. The owner was very good to work with as well. Plus we could bring our dogs at no additonal charge!
Once again a terrific vacation at Sidell's log cabin! Cabin was immaculate as always. So much room for our group to spread out and relax. A very picturesque location on the Sturgeon River. The kitchen is well stocked with just about anything needed to create your meals. The large island in the kitchen is perfect for meal prep and to present buffet-style dining for larger groups.
3 full bathrooms, shower/bath combos in all, with plenty of thick towels for a crowd. Very comfortable beds, even the bunks, in every bedroom and in the loft area.
The enormous deck facing the river and the firepit down at the river were put to use every day/night.
The location of the this cabin makes it perfect for day trips to not only Indian River but to other of the many quaint towns in the area. There's a terrific grocery store approx. 2 miles down the road so no need to haul a bunch of food from home.
We hadn't stayed at Doug's cabin for a few years due to our stays in other areas in northern Michigan and the UP. Our group unanimously agreed that we needed to vacation in Indian River this year and a MAJOR reason was due in part to this cabin and all of its amenities!!!
We are already counting down the days until we can return to this beautiful location! The ONLY negative reagarding our vacation this year is that it had to end. :(
Thanks Doug for everything. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time at your cabin!!!!
We love Sidell's cabin! Our family previously rent this cabin in the summer season. This time we had a chance enjoy winter staying in Michigan during our New Year vacation. Cabin is perfect for a big family. Very clean and nice designed home. Kitchen well stocked with pans, plates, cooking utensils etc. Well stocked with bedding, towels, blankets, pillows etc. Nubs Nob Ski Resort is 20 miles and snowmobiles renting 1 mile away. It was nice to come back to the warm and cozy house after skiing, fishing, sledding and snowmobiling. Sauna and hot tub helped to restore after winter's entertainment.
Very good customer service. Doug responded quickly to questions we had and even helped with some local knowledge to suggest things to do in the area.
We will be back! Thank you Doug!
Stayed here with my family, 13 of us. Plenty of room for all. Clean. Loved the jacuzzi and sauna! Took the kayaks out for a beautiful winter ride down the Sturgeon:) Enjoyed warming up at the bonfire and listening to the river:) perfect location right next to the trailhead to take the snowmobiles out. Friendly owners, easy to work with. We will definitely be coming here again!
This place is perfect for family vacations or group of friends! Our family spent Labor Day weekend there. Excellent house decorated as hunting cabin! There was plenty of room for everyone, including family member – our beagle. The house was immaculate, and all of the amenities were just terrific: perfect fire pit, plenty of provided firewood, sauna and hot tub overlooking the river. The large porch provided a lot of fun family time, grill and access to the Sturgeon River gave us ability to kayaking. We enjoyed sunset on the Burt Lake beach which located a couple minutes to drive also.
The location is terrific: it's only couple minutes to drive to the nearest store. Close to Mackinaw City which is absolutely wonderful to touch some history, dining, visit famous fudge places, shopping, and just have fun. The ferry rides with great view of the bridge, lighthouse and visiting Mackinac Island and Huron Lake left the best memories of the horse rides, arch view and explore island's history and today’s life.
Property owner is very friendly and helpful. Doug gave us a lot of advices. We already scheduled our Winter vacation there to explore Michigan at winter time with snowmobiling, ice fishing and visit Mackinaw City around Christmas time!!!
Other Activities: kayaking, snow boarding, snowmobiling, miniature golf
Golf: All the major N. Michigan golf clubs are close by! Some of these clubs include Bay Harbor, Little Traverse Bay, The Crooked Tree, Treetops, Marsh Ridge, Otsego Club, Michaywe, Black Lake, True North, and of course, the Indian River Golf Club.
Ski: Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, and Nubs Knob are all about 30 minute from the cabin!
