About Kelly Majid

We have lived and travelled all over the world, but call Northern California home. We enjoy hiking in the redwoods, playing on the beach, kayaking, biking, dancing and music with our kids. We are both chefs, so also love growing, foraging, cooking and eating good food.

Kelly Majid purchased this house in 2009

Why Kelly Majid chose Sonoma County

As residents of the Bay Area, the Russian River is a close, convenient place to escape the frenzy of urban living. Duncan's Mills is a sweet, quiet community between Jenner and Guerneville. We love our neighbors and the peace and quiet of the area. Having lived and travelled all over the world, this area tops our 'Most Beautiful Places' list. We feel so blesssed to have this property and love sharing it with others who appreciate the natural beauty of this magical place as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

We love our home, but we also love its location. Duncans Mills is a quaint, sweet little town. We love the friendly people, the relaxed atmosphere, and the surrounding nature. We enjoy walks into town to chat with locals over a cup of tea at the cafe. We love hikes and bike rides around the area. And, of course, we love kayaking, swimming and playing in the river! The meadow and the easy river access it provides are a very special and unique feature of the property. The property has something to offer every month of the year. In the rainy months a 100 foot waterfall gushes from the mountainside across the road. It's the perfect soundtrack (along with the mooing of the cows on the mountain ridge) for sitting in the hot tub under a sky full of stars. In the warmer months, we enjoy swimming, playing ball on the meadow and kayaking and exploring the river. There is always something unique to enjoy, no matter the weather or time of year. We always enjoy hearing guests' stories of their encounters with wildlife, favorite spots to explore, restaurants, beaches, wineries, and other local adventures. No matter the season, Riverfront Retreat offers peace and tranquility and although it is always hard to leave, we always leave happy and relaxed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came looking for seclusion and found it. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay in this wonderful place. New and beautiful memories have been made and will be shared.

Excellent location and accommodations. Great dealings with owner. Highly recommended.

Our stay at the River House was terrific. We had 5 days which went by all too quickly.

We visited many of the local wineries and had excellent food and truly great experiences.

The river house was great for playing games and relaxing after a hard day of being a tourist. The hot tub was nice and my only regret is that I did not go kayaking enough. The scenery down the river is spectacular.

The state park, just a few miles from the house has spectacular views of the ocean and is a must see point of interest.

It is hard to describe how beautiful the area is, but we have walked away in awe of the scenery and pristine landscape.

The house itself had everything we needed and all dealings with Kelly were easy and professional. I highly recommend this place and feel it was perfect for our needs.

Lovely spot!

  • 5 of 5

Well equipped, comfortable house with beautiful river views. Great for nature lovers, for swimming, kayaking, and just relaxing.

Spent a lovely short vacation with our daughter, son-in-law and small grandson, age 4... He did not want to return to San Francisco!!

A sweet place for a small family

  • 3 of 5

We were a little disappointing by this property. It's very cute and fully stocked. But it's much smaller than we'd anticipated. The pics hide this quite well. We're a couple with a two year old and shared with another couple who have a 6 year old.

So why are we giving 3 stars? If you're a couple with just one child, this place will work great for you. We thought we'd done our research but the owners have cleverly obscured the fact that the main living quarters are really tiny. I guess we should have noticed that the majority of the images were of the environs rather than the property!

If it's a wet weekend, you're stuck inside a very small place.

A Perfect Bay Area Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I would definitely recommend this property :) We had a family weekend (no kids) and found Riverfront Retreat to be everything as described. We wanted to go someplace close but in the country, and this fit the bill. The end of October is getting chilly but the heating in the place worked great and the house is really well insulated so it doesn't take long or much to get warm. We loved the colourful comfortable furnishings throughout the property, along with the views of the serene river and mountains. The sun room is just wonderful! We found everything we needed to enjoy ourselves for the too short weekend. Thank you Kelly! Btw, the owner, Kelly, is great to work with and very detail-oriented.

A little slice of Northern California paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our stay couldn't have been better. We never even had to get in the car to enjoy all the available activities. Kayaking, bike riding, hiking even walking to the restaurant, market or post office. We were sitting at the picnic table on the deck one night having dinner and I had the view of the river and said to my son "this view is beautiful" he was sitting opposite me and said "so is my view (redwoods/mountainside)". The point being no matter where you look on this property, all views are beautiful! If you really want to slow down and relax, this is the place for you. I brought my 2 teenage sons and they had the best time ever. Even gave me a fist bump when we arrived!

The listing accurately reflected all the available amenities and surpassed our expectations.

Looking forward to renting this again.

We'd go back!

  • 4 of 5

Had a great (but short) Thanksgiving weekend here. Didn't get to take advantage of the river, due to the rainy season, but had a really nice time. The hot tub is perfect, the view from upstairs is beautiful, the little meadow was lovely! We were two families - four adults and three little kids - and there was enough space for everyone (plus lots of fun toys for the toddlers!). The owner was very helpful and accommodating, she was able to squeeze us in last-minute and was very responsive to questions. We will try to come here in the summer sometime!

Car: recommended

Riverfront Retreat is a peaceful getaway for nature-lovers looking for a comfortable, relaxing spot to rejuvenate with friends and family. Riverfront access and 3 kayaks lure you to explore the Russian River - great for kayaking, tubing, swimming, fishing, and birdwatching. A trailhead to some of the best hiking and mountain biking in Sonoma County is located right on our road! For more heat and action (if you miss the crowds) head to Guerneville for the public beach, music festivals and fine dining. Craving the sound of crashing waves? The stunning Sonoma Coast is just 4.5 miles down the highway. Meander the gorgeous country roads, explore the charming hamlets, and visit the wineries and world class restaurants or beautiful Sonoma County. All this just 1 1/2/ hours from San Franicisco! Or if you're feeling less adventurous, just relax at the house in hot tub, play or picnic on the sunny meadow, read, swim, kayak, sleep, and soak up the peacefulness of this heavenly place.
