About Jeni Herberger
We spent 2 years living in this beautiful home nestled in the slopes of Mauna Loa with our 3 kids. Business and education brought us back to the mainland recently but we have every intention of moving back to paradise some day soon. Enjoy our home in our absence! Aloha!
Jeni Herberger purchased this House in 2006
Why Jeni Herberger chose Honaunau-Napoopoo
Kona has long been a favorite place of ours and when the opportunity presented itself for us to relocate, this was our first choice. We fell in love with the home, the land and the peace and beauty the property offers.
What makes this House unique
Our friends, guests and ohana tell us they don't want to leave the property once they arrive. Everything you could imagine is right there; a resort-style pool, acres of fruit trees, an open house with incredible decor! Simply ono!

Beautiful home! Private and Jeni is an AWESOME Homeowner!
We stayed for 2 weeks in Jeni's house. It has everything you need to enjoy the beautiful Big Island. She is a Great homeowner and was available anytime we needed anything! We will be returning to this house for sure!
Toni-guys are the perfect guests! Understanding, communicative, and so appreciative of the beauty rural Big Island has to offer. I cant wait for you to come back. Keep in mind, we offer our returning guests (now our ohana) a 10% on the total rental fee (excluding the Christmas holiday)!
And you took exceptionally good care of the home making you welcome anytime!
This home provided all the amenities we had been told to expect There were coolers and beach equipment, a great pool. tiki lights, and plenty of room. The kitchen was fully equipped and plenty of parking space. The grounds are very nice with avocadoes, papaya and palms. The location is within fifteen minutes of three beaches and easy to get to Highway 11 which circles the island. The driveway to the house is narrow but paved and the directions to access the property are excellent. The home easily accommodates a large family, couples and singles. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner is very easy to work with.
Wonderful place to stay
My wife and I stayed here with our 3 sons and their families. We had just as much fun and relaxation here at the house as we did anywhere on the island. We spent 2 days at the house without leaving, just swimming, picking lemons to make fresh squeezed lemonade, picking avacados and just laying in the sun. The pool and hot tub were great. There were no mosquitoes or any other unwelcomed bugs to bother us. I will admit that the roosters crowing at 4:00AM woke us up earlier then we wanted to get up, but our 3 year old grand daughter sure loved watching the chickens and the baby chicks.
The grounds were well kept up and the house was very clean with lots of room for 10 people.
If we ever come back to the big island with a group of friends or family we would definitely stay here again without any hesitation.
The property is such a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. I've had many guests tell me they spent more time at the house enjoying the pool and the grounds than venturing out. We do have a chorus of birds in the morning greeting the new day! You and your ohana are absolutely fantastic guests and welcome back any time!
A great property for our group and our escape from winter
Our group of 11 stayed at Pu’u Mahana during the Feb break 2018. Jeni was great to deal with from when we booked in and right through our stay. She had lots of tips and information for us in her welcome package, and was very easy to get in touch with if we had any questions while were there. The weather on the Big Island was mostly rainy during our stay and we did a lot of touring around the island. The hot tub and pool were great at the end of the day. There were a few technical issues with the wifi and couple of other minor maintenance issues. Jeni had them dealt with as soon as she could. The cat that came to visit quickly made friends. Our girls named her Mary Margaret for the week. The lemon tree was full of ripe lemons and the avocados also were in season. Nice that we could make use of them while we were there. Lots of room, the bedrooms are suites on their own. All of us could gather in the kitchen for coffee/breakfast in the morning and not be crowded. The rental vehicle had GPS and it took us to the address, it was good that we got there in the daylight because the property is back up the mountain and down a quiet country trail. It would have been tricky to find in the dark but again, all the directions were in the welcome package. I would recommend Pu’u Mahana to other families that are looking to stay near the Kona side of the Big Island.

Mahalo for staying with us! Brand new routers, and even pool equipment have been added to home since our stay just a few short weeks ago. The kitty has been nicely asked to move along as to along as to keep our property as nice as possible for us and our guests. We are so glad you enjoyed your tropical getaway!
Wow! That really is the first way to start. Jeni was great to work with. Her home is completely set up for you to have the.best time. The pool was amazing. The house was built for you to experience the best sun sets I have ever seen. Every bedroom was decorated to perfection. The pictures that Jeni provided us, were great. However the pictures didn’t come close to showing how incredible her home was. Everyone in my family woke up every day to say wow. If I could give ten stars I would. I can’t thank Jeni enough for letting us share her home. Anybody looking to rent a house on the big Island, should try very hard to rent this home. We were able too create the BEST CHRISTMAS VACATION MEMORIES WE WILL EVER HAVE. I recommend this home very highly. Thank you so very much. Daniel Ellis and Family
Its guests like Daniel who warm my heart! This property is so loved and having been my primary residence for years is filled with all the amenities and details a home would have. Its also filled with memories of my own family and the adventures we shared together. I'm so lucky to be able to add the memories of other families to the spirit of the home!
Everything about the place was better than the pictures suggest. Jeni was a pleasure to work with. We had a large family group in support of my sister competing in the Ironman. We had plenty of space. The kitchen, living space and pool/outdoor area is much bigger than expected. The master suites were awesome. The kids loved the pool and we had plenty of fresh avocados every day for everyone to make sandwiches and guac. There's a grocery store within 5-10 minutes and an amazing wrap/smoothie place Loko Wraps. The coffee shack is another recommended nearby stop. We would definitely stay here again if there weren't so many other amazing undiscovered locations in this world. Our only recommendation would be updated pillows and linens for at least the upstairs suite. Other than that A+
Volcano National Park is just 85 miles from the property. Captain Cook's monument, Kealakekua Bay and City of Refuge are all nearby and a must see for visitors!
