We loved the villa, we loved the resort and we loved the island! The villa was roomy and clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was perfect! It was close to everything that mattered to us. The kids pools were awesome and we used them every day. The beach was close and wonderful for little kids. The only downside was the seaweed, which was washing up ashore every day, but I hear that has been the problem of most of the Caribbean lately. My husband and son made a good use of complimentary hobby cat rentals. We had a rental car, so we were able to explore the island a bit and really enjoyed going out to eat to various restaurants. English Harbour/Nelson's Dockyards is amazing! We would love to come back the next year and stay at the villa again.
We had a fantastic vacation with our two young adults over Thanksgiving. St James Club is a beautiful resort and the villa is very well equipped and conveniently located to numerous pools, both beaches, and the tennis courts.
If planning to make your own meals the Epicurean Market is the place to shop. As others have noted there are smaller stores closer to St. James Club with less selection and much higher prices. We ate dinner at one of the resort restaurants which was just OK and pretty pricey. We also had plans to go out for dinner one evening at the Shirley Heights restaurant only to find out it was not opened. It is important to call ahead and verify that any restaurant will actually be open for dinner on any particular night and even then you may pull up only to find them closed.
We enjoyed Eli's Eco Tour through Adventure Antigua and highly recommend this excursion. Our young adults also enjoyed a diving trip with Linda at the onsite Dive Shop . One is a recently certified diver and the other was brand new to the experience. They both enjoyed it immensely. We rented a car for the week and brought along a GPS loaded with a map of Antigua. The GPS is a must have! We explored English Harbor, Nelson Dockyard, Half Moon Bay, Long Bay, and Shirley Heights.
Antigua is beautiful and everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. We definitely plan to return. I would highly recommend this villa for your stay. The owner provided great communication and the villa was perfect for our needs.
We had a great stay in this villa and saved thousands versus the cost of an all-inclusive villa rental through the St. James Club. We ate a few meals at the on-site restaurants and agree with the other reviewer that they were overpriced and unremarkable. Plan to stop at the Epicurean supermarket after landing at the airport, as it is a good 1/2 hour from the resort. Smaller stores are closer to St. James with less selection/higher prices.
The villa was very comfortable and the kitchen well appointed. While not directly on the beach, it is centrally located on the property and the beach is just seconds from your door.
We rented a car and if we had not used a GPS, we would have been hopelessly lost. Most roads are poorly marked and the roads feature random, large pot holes that could easily lead to a flat tire or worse. Depending on the amount of off property exploring you plan to do, you may want to rely on taxis, which are readily available at the St. James Club parking lot.
Antigua was beautiful and our vacation was near perfect. We did the sunset sailing cruise through St. James, which was OK and Eli's Eco Tour through Adventure Antigua. It was a very nice all day tour of the island with snorkeling/swimming stops (highly recommend). We also went skeet shooting at Reservoir Range with a large group. They provided great instruction to the first timers, who ended up out shooting the experienced shooters!
St. James offers multiple pools and and the included free activity rentals were very nice (snorkeling, paddle boards, kayaks, sailboats, etc.). Wi-fi is available in the main lobby, which forced our teens to limit their electronic time and enjoy Antigua.
Antigua was beautiful and our vacation was near perfect. I would highly recommend this villa for your stay. The owner provided great communication and answered all of our questions before we left on our trip.
We had a great weeks stay in this villa, and would absolutely recommend it. Location was perfect, mamora beach was stunning. We loved the independence of a self catering villa holiday. St James's food is average and very over priced if you are not all inclusive, if you want to eat out there are plenty of options close by. We would definitely recommend a car!
Just one comment to the owners, some cleaning utensils (sponges/tea towels/kitchen paper/brush etc) would be useful.
Overall great place, and would definitely recommend it!
Our family of 3 recently stayed at this villa and it was ideal in all aspects. The villa itself was well-located within the resort with good access to both beaches as well as other resort facilities. The villa is very spacious and well designed, with an over-sized patio offering a partial view of the beach (through palm trees). All spaces work - an efficient, well-equipped kitchen overlooking the living room with a separate dining area. The bedrooms are quite large, each with very nice bathrooms - great space overall for our family and we highly recommend this accommodation. We also enjoyed the ability to opt in/out of the resort's meal plan, preparing most of our meals with a few exceptions. We recommend a car rental. We toured the area quite a bit and came to the conclusion that this is one of the best locations on the island.
Wonderful location across the paved road from Coco Beach and a short walk to Mamora Bay. You can't beat the value for the location, especially in the off season. The villa is a stand alone unit so it is especially quiet and great for a small family. My children, ages 18 and 16 loved the unit and the resort amenities. We found the unit very clean and functional. The resort has most activities and non motorized watersports for an active family. We learned to windsurf and also utilized the kayaks, hobiecats, snorkel gear, tennis, pools, and fitness center. We did eat both on and off property. Check out Trappas Bar in English Harbour, and the Hideout just up the road from St. James Club. The owner was helpful in suggesting restaurants and our rental car. Please get to know the resort employees, especially the guys at the activities area. Nigel, Wilson, Corn, and Super Dave made our days fun filled. Also, say hello to Alfred who drives the drink cart. He makes his rounds providing drinks to the people at both Coco Beach and Mamora Bay. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. Don't be afraid to smile and strike up a conversation. They are most willing to make your stay enjoyable. Can't wait to go back. And yes, we will rent this same villa!!!
