We absolutely loved this cabin! The view from the back deck was incredible. It is a little out of the way when you are first driving up but well worth it once you arrive!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Murphy's Hideaway. The house is cozy and was the perfect place to get away. We spent most of our time on the deck. Incredible sunsets!! The first time driving up to the house we were wondering what we had gotten ourselves into, but once there it was clear we made the right choice. It's a 15 minute drive up the mountain from Murphys, CA. Old gold mining town with tasting rooms, shops, restaurants, pub and pour house, etc. Spent the mornings with coffee and breakfast on the deck, and the evening having cocktails and bbq-ing on the deck. Couldn't have been better. Definitely will go back and recommend to friends.
Great Getaway home!
We enjoyed our stay, though shortened due to a work issue for my husband. The house has a great view and is very quiet, which we were looking for. It should be noted, this house is not very close to "town", so for those that want to walk into town, this is not the house. However, if you want to get away for peace and quiet, this is perfect. It is very cozy and welcoming.
We are glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet while staying at Murphys Hideaway. While staying there ourselves we enjoy our jaunts into town however we always look forward to getting back to that peaceful deck with the far reaching view. We hope you try again and next time can stay for the time you have planned.
Slice of Heaven
Gerri has created a perfect spot to rejuvenate and take in nature's beauty... nothing better than her Murphy's Hideway; peaceful, loving, creative, a one-of-kind slice of heaven that restores one's soul. Whether it's spending the day on the deck watching the sunrise, soaking in the magical sunsets or the best show of night sky stars around.... or taking in the Sierra's, Murphys, Arnold and so much more. We've had the pleasure to stay here almost a half a dozen times and I can't wait until the next one! With love, joy and blessings ~ Kristin
Great weekend getaway with awesome views off the beaten path.
Great place off the beaten path perfect for a getaway. Beautiful view from the back deck.Well stocked and very comfortable. A little toasty, even with the fans provided. Would definitely visit again, but probably during fall or spring when it's a bit cooler. Otherwise, a great weekend!
So glad you enjoyed your stay and that you appreciated the surrounding beauty and peaceful setting. Yes, please do come again. We plan to install some air conditioning in the house by next summer so everyone can be comfortable year round. The temperatures in the area seem to be consistently warmer than usual.
Country home in remote setting
Stayed two nights in the Murphys Hideaway home for a weekend getaway with two girlfriends. We arrived to a glorious sunset on the deck with a beautiful view of the country side. The house was spacious for three adults with one bedroom downstairs and a loft type setting upstairs with two seperate sleeping quarters. The stairs were a bit narrow and could prove tricky for any guests with physical disabilities. The home is in a remote area which requires a drive on a narrow country road.
I read a previous review about the uncomfortable heat in the home, and I would concur 100% with that statement.
My friends and I are from California and we have experienced our fair share of heat in different parts of the state. But the heat in this house was unbearable at night; the owner provided oscillating floor fans and the rooms had ceiling fans but they provided little relief. I ended up sleeping on the couch downstairs because I could not bear the heat in the upstairs area. Needless to say, we all experienced very poor sleep over the weekend.
We're sorry that the floor and ceiling fans didn't help you enough with the heat of this exceptionally hot California summer. Although we could not do anything about it this year, we plan to install some mini split air conditioners before next summer as it appears this global warming is here to stay. We would like to offer you a discount should you choose to come back next year.
Located just two and a half hours east of San Francisco, the town of Murphys (founded in 1848 and known as 'Queen of the Sierra') provides an array of activities: historic sites to see, fabulous restaurants, dozens of wineries, outdoor concerts, antique and eclectic shopping, art galleries, golfing, hiking, fishing, biking, rafting, and a live theater. Big Trees State Park, Bear Valley Ski Area and the Alpine Lake recreation area are located nearby. The town of Murphys was listed in the April 2006 issue of Frommers Budget Travel as one of the top 10 coolest small towns.
