SPECIAL EVENTS 2013 SUMMER
IRONSTONE WINERY in Murphys has a GREAT outdoor concert venue.
What a fun and relaxing weekend! We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin with our two little ones and the dog. It was so quiet and serene - the deck was the perfect spot to hang out with some cheese and local wine. We opted to stay and enjoy it rather than some of our other planned activities - just perfect! Thank you for sharing your Hideaway with us!
We loved our stay at Murphy's Hideaway, and we weren't ready to leave when it was time to go. The house is homey and comfortable, and I loved the antique screen and armoires. The deck and location are really special, and I would highly recommend this rental for those who like to be a bit off of the beaten path because it's a few minutes up the road from Murphy's. Nice, country quiet with lots of deer & bird watching available.
This was a surprising and welcome find. We stayed here for a writer's retreat and to be convenient to the great food and wine tasting in Murphy's, CA. While initially quite hot, after we opened the place up, we found it to be temperate and pleasant for the remainder of our stay. Gerri (the property owner) was very helpful and accommodating, and the property itself was lovely, clean, and well-appointed, just secluded enough to be peaceful while still close enough to town to be convenient. The beds were very comfortable as well. And the night sky was absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be returning if we get the chance.
We stayed at Gerri’s cottage with our toddler twins and parents on our recent visit to the cozy town of Murphy’s.
The cottage was warm, cozy, comfy and a place where we felt at home for the two days that we stayed. It was stocked will all the necessary supplies and there was nothing that was missing as such, except for some sachets of hot chocolate that my husband hunted for throughout the kitchen but failed to find! Also I was secretly hoping for some microwave popcorn, but well, that’s not deemed as a ‘necessity’ either. There was ample seating, linen, sheets and supplies for all of us. Even the bedrooms were ample, although an extra bathroom would have helped!
The place was clean and the size of the house was just perfect for the six of us. Our babies had a blast in the house as well as on the luxury-sized patio deck too.
We had no trouble locating the house, but that was since our GPS was our guiding angel, however you can easily miss the house if you blink and miss the house number board on the road. So do keep an eye out as you near the ‘point of rest’. The drive to and from the town is roughly about 15-20 minutes so you definitely need to plan your lunch and dinner accordingly if you are not keen on spending time having a cook off in the kitchen on a vacation. Definitely not my idea of fun but the kitchen was used well enough to cook meals for our kids and breakfast for our hungry tummies early in the morning!
In case you are coming from north the sheep ranch road from Avery is a little shorter compared to route from Murphys.
The nights may get a little hot or cold depending on the weather but incase it gets hot, you will have a noisy companion in the form of a table fan. Although the noise of the lone fan may cut through the pin drop silence of the night, it may get a little annoying for some, so a tiring day may come to the rescue to help you fall asleep.
Overall we had a beautoful stay and enjoyed some Californian snow hidden away neatly, an hour’s drive away in bear valley. It’s a good relaxing getaway and we definitely recommend Gerri’s House for having some fun (no pun intended)!
Also last but not the least, we forgot one of the most important members of our family back there, but thankfully Gerri was kind enough to post it back to us promptly enough. It was a bedtime lullaby singing doll without which our toddlers refuse to sleep and today since we received it in post we can have a peaceful night!
We had a wonderful relaxing time. The home had a beautiful view and was very quiet. The owners provided everything we needed and were they easy to work with. We would recommend this cute little hideaway to anyone!
We had a wonderful time and just loved the home. It had a great view and was prefect in size. The owners provided everything we needed. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants a nice relaxing getaway!
Murphy's hideaway is the perfect escape from our busy bay area lives. The cabin is warm and cozy and the views from the deck are unbeatable. Gerri (owner) makes the whole experience easy and fun. We took day hikes around the cabin and enjoyed dinner out in downtown Murphy's. We loved Grounds (try the pomegranate/basil martini) and Alchemy. This was our third trip to the hideaway and we can't wait for our next visit!
Located just two and a half hours east of San Francisco, the town of Murphys (founded in 1848 and known as 'Queen of the Sierra') provides an array of activities: historic sites to see, fabulous restaurants, dozens of wineries, outdoor concerts, antique and eclectic shopping, art galleries, golfing, hiking, fishing, biking, rafting, and a live theater. Big Trees State Park, Bear Valley Ski Area and the Alpine Lake recreation area are located nearby. The town of Murphys was listed in the April 2006 issue of Frommers Budget Travel as one of the top 10 coolest small towns.
