Rest, relaxation, solitude and 'all the beauty of old Hawaii'.
We just arrived home after our 10 day stay. It was my husband, myself and our 2 year old grandson. We were greeted with the aloha spirit the moment we got out of our car and was treated beyond wonderful for our stay. Tonja baked fresh vegan cookies and brought us over some and boy were they good, she even brought our grandson over toys and some gifts (what a sweetheart). Thank you Tui for lending Colt your toys for our stay, your a wonderful young man.
The house is clean, comfortable and well cared for. The pool was crystal clear, the grounds are lush, beautiful and private. The home has everything a family needs and more.
We recently stayed here for a week with our 3 children (1,2 & 13) and can not wait to come back. We made so many memories swimming everyday in the pool and playing games on the beautiful deck! The location is also amazing. Hilo was an easy 20 min drive but we actually spent more time exploring some amazing spots in the other direction (near Pahoa) like Ahalanui Beach Park, Champagne Pond, Kapaho Tide Pools. The house is much closer to all of these awesome must see Big Island spots than Hilo which made it so convenient for our little ones and their napping schedules. The house is perfect for families with children, the pool is fenced in and the yard is so lush and beautiful. The owners Jack and Tonya are so nice and welcoming gave great suggestions on nearby sites to see. Tonya even brought over fresh fruit from their mango tree. We will definitely be coming back to the Big Island and staying at this beautiful house again. It is definitely home away from home and we would recommend this house to anyone wanting to see the beautiful big island of Hawaii.
What a welcoming and warm house this is! We feel so fortunate to have found it. Tonya, Jack and Tui embody the Aloha spirit . They are very helpful and available but also are respectful of their guest's privacy. The setting is lush and quiet. Tonya is an artist and has a wonderful sense of color. Be sure to look at her prize-winning photograph in the lower living space. The two levels give so many options for a family or group of friends. The house is clean and well appointed , as well as beautiful. The saltwater pool is also very well maintained and it was so great to take a dip any time of day. Our grandchildren loved it. We have family in Hilo and it is about a half hour drive into town, maybe more during rush hour. We love exploring Hilo and its fantastic farmer's market. It is an easy trip to Volcano Park. There is a great Italian restaurant in nearby Pahoa. We grandparents enjoyed the peace and quiet but there were many opportunities nearby for the more adventurous members of our family. We returned the next year, after our first stay, and it felt like coming home.
Our family of 4 came with Grandparents and had a terrific time here. The rental is great and the pool too! The two floors make it like two rentals in one. Very handy to have the space (and blow up beds to use if wanted). The home was comfortable, clean, and Jack and Tonya were quick in responding to emails and questions. A Grandparent was sick and Tonya even brought over some soup! It was also great to have a Master bedroom on the lower level (with a shower and tub) along with everything else and all the amenities. Big hearts and we highly recommend this beautiful home. We went out to Pahoa (saw the lava that stopped at the transfer station). Enjoyed jogging in the neighborhood and seeing the sights. Volcano, Hilo (Tsunami museum and Lyman museum), Mauna Loa Mac Nuts, South Point, Buzz's Honey and Parrots, & PunaLuu for bread, cookies & ice cream. We put on a LOT of miles on our rental car! Always nice to come home to the rental and pool!
I stayed a week at Jack & Tonya's wonderful home. It was quiet, peaceful & spotless. My husband & I are familiar with the area as we vacation in Puna 1-2 times a year since 1996. So sometimes we want to spend a whole day not even leaving the rental and just relaxing and forgetting about our hectic city life. This was a great spot to get away from it all. Somedays we would hike in Volcano, out to Shipman Beach or just around Puna and somedays we just stayed at the house relaxing by the pool and soaking up warm Puna sunshine. Every morning started with a walk to the cliffs to watch the morning waves and every evening ended with a walk to the cliffs to have a "Puna" sunset. Tonya was very attentive and helpful. We really enjoyed talking with Tui (what a brilliant, insightful and all around cool kid!). And we totally fell in love with Bebe the dog. If you are looking for a home base to explore the East side or just a place to kick back and chill for a week, this is the spot.
Beautiful home with attractive decor and well-appointed kitchen. The house was clean and neat and very comfortable. A nice breeze was blowing through the house making sleeping easy. There were beautiful gardens on the property and a laundry area. We were able to access WiFi easily. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. They pointed us in the direction of places off the beaten trail giving us a special peek at Hawaii that tourists don't usually see. A few blocks from the ocean where there are some great hiking trails through the jungle and great views of whales. The house water was treated and undrinkable so we had to purchase water or go to the transfer station pump to collect. We felt very relaxed and enjoyed our stay and meeting our hosts.
