Why Don Russell chose Cape Elizabeth

The great room views and outside terraces looking down on crashing surf make this property sing. Wide, extended ocean frontage with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, along with spectacular views of lighthouses and shipping channel.

The home inside has ALL the furnishings and amenities you need to have a comfortable stay but I want to be clear that at this peak pricing (approx 2k BELOW vacation homes in area with LESSER VIEWS) you will find less updates, and only average interiors, furnishings and appliances, etc.

What makes this house unique

Lobster cooker, gas grill, secret garden path, fire urn table on upper terrace, hammock on lower terrace, WIFI internet ready, added fridges in garage and lower level, garage bay available, HD and DVD cable with sports package, incredible panorama views from great room, master bedroom balcony, library windows, etc.

a five star vacation with a five star view!

  • 5 of 5

Quite simply the greatest vacation my family ever took! Don was so helpful. He gave us wonderful dining and golf recommendations and answered questions right away! Then there is the view! Are you kidding me! Waking up to that ocean view every morning with my cup of coffee!!! I did not want to go anywhere! It's a "live postcard" 24/7! My family and I are counting the days till we come back! Cape Elizabeth, lobster, and this house equals five star vacation!

Owner's Response: So glad you and your family had fun and enjoyed the experience. We know the view is great and unbeatable but we try hard to also provide clean and comfortable gently worn vacation home surroundings that allow you to optimize that view and the entire experience. Thank you for noticing, safe travels, Don.

The place is in complete disrepair, dirty, the view of ocean is very nice.

  • 1 of 5

There are 14 casement type windows on the main floor, 10 of which had no screens or crank handles, two others were reported to be awaiting parts and the last two were operational. There are four exit doors servicing the building, there was a note "do not open the front door", the French door to the patio is sticking and about to fall off, the exterior door on the lower level is marked "emergency exit", the screen door on the garage side needs closures the door works properly. There are two doors in the master suite, one marked "please use other door". Water damage is abundant to ceilings and walls, attempts to mask are ineffective. Cabinetry is dirty with sticky knobs and numerous misaligned doors. Kitchen equipment partially operational, pots, pans, utensils and dishes dirty. The bathrooms all had green and black discoloration in corners and crevices. Ceramic tile grout missing and discolored. Flooring worn, dirty and scratched. Laundry room floor damaged, walls and ceiling exhibit water damage and discoloration. Plastic sheeting taped on wall below lower level bathroom sink. Baseboard radiator covers rusted and falling off. Two dehumidifiers on lower level that required emptying 2 - 3 times daily, with wires taped to carpet. Air fresheners were placed throughout the lower level. Exterior; Rotting window trim, 3/4" backer rod used to weather strip windows, weeds for landscaping, electrical receptacle missing cover plate, junk for outdoor furniture (the plastic chairs were by far the nicest), the fire pit (round for the square hole) bottom had holes and was about to drop out.

WE LEFT TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THE CONCLUSION OF OUR SCHEDULED AND PAID FOR RENTAL PERIOD. ONE STAR EXCEEDS MINE AND MY FAMILIES PERCEPTION OF THE PROPERTY. I TOOK PHOTOS TO DOCUMENT MY ABOVE STATEMENTS, I WOULD BE PLEASED TO FORWARD.

Owner's Response: Wow, this client review is so exaggerated and so shockingly unfair it is ridiculous. It is mean spirited and incredibly inaccurate. I would ask anyone to see that all reviews opposite it are posted here and elsewhere and should counter and properly balance this clearly impossible to please client review. They clearly had some personal issues and malice invading their fairness and ethics. I am sorry they expected the White House or Taj Mahal at our not perfect but entirely enjoyable and comfortable gently worn vacation home, marketed as such. We offered them instant support, relief and attention and they turned us down. A third of what they state is just factless, baseless, unfair and irrational. A third is being worked on and most corrected to date w more planned. The final third is, please reference, noting majority of reviews to the absolute contrary, so super picky, so white glove, so Howard Hughes like, that it would be impossible to satisfy such a person. Oh well, our first horrid review saddens me, will re triple our service and cleaning efforts but also will be tempered knowing we provide a clean and comfortable gently worn home w the best views in Maine. Thank you. I am here and willing any time to personally address any fair questions and concerns, even the fair third addressed here. Bottom line dear folks, if you have to have a perfect, spotless, Viking stove, Italian marble, doesn't look lived in, and doesn't look enjoyed in experience...then you can pay way way more down the road for far less privacy and far less views. We are great at some things. We are more than adequate at the others. Thanks for listening and BALANCING, appreciated, Don.

Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

We decided to pick this house for our girls trip because of the view of the ocean. It was amazing! Drinking coffee with a fire going as the fog rolled out was magical. It's location was perfectly nestled on the water and was close enough to stores, but far enough where you felt secluded! I would definitely rent this house again!

Stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week. Big enough to give everyone space but plenty of get-together space.

Our only problem was that sun comes in full-blast into the master bedroom at 5:30AM, and no way to block it!

A Great Space

  • 5 of 5

This house is a great space with fabulous views from every angle. We enjoyed sitting on the patio right next to the ocean as well as the numerous gathering areas in the large house. The open layout of the house makes the most of the ocean access and is a comfortable setting for visiting with family and friends. A truly great space.

Idyllic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was a gorgeous home and the perfect weekend retreat for my friends and me. The house had so much space with windows everywhere and phenomenal views. It was extremely clean and comfortable and had all the modern conveniences one would want. I am grateful for the opportunity to have stayed in such a beautiful home...and being right on the water made it even more special. I highly recommend this getaway!
