Welcome to the Swan's Nest! You won't find a better location or nicer property on the Eastern Shore. Our gracious and charming5 bedroom farmhouse is well-equipped for small or large groups and can serve up to 18 guests. The kitchen is well-stocked with quality equipment and plenty of pots and pans. The bedrooms are private and very comfortable and match the country hominess of days gone by. Remember sleeping porches? Try ours on a moonlit night with a star-filled sky. You can actually see the stars! The Swan's nest is close to town for the modern conveniences yet seemingly a step back in time when relaxation, reconnecting and rejuvenation were more important for family vacations.
What can you do on 50 acres of waterfront property? Explore with a morning walk and a cup of coffee. Watch the sunrise over the Little Choptank River and Fishing Creek. Play any number of outdoor games like volleyball, basketball, soccer, frisbee, wiffleball and horseshoes on the spacious lawn. Bikes are provided so take a long bikeride. Stroll down to your 120 foot deepwater pier (you can even jump off and swim in the creek). Enjoy the canoe, kayak, johnboat, paddleboat and paddle board. Relax on your sandy beach. During season catch delectable crabs right off the pier and cook them up for dinner. Tired yet? Go back to the house and collapse in the comfortable hammock!
The Swan's Nest offers an incredible array of wildlife that calls our 50 acres 'home'. You may see the beautiful and majestic American bald eagle, bobwhite quail, wild turkeys, whitetail deer, Canada geese, various types of ducks and, of course, cottontail
rabbits. Fishing Creek, the Little Choptank, and the Bay,offer a multitude of fishing opportunities and a variety of species, including the famous and delicious striped bass known locally as the 'Rockfish'.

We got married at Swan's Nest, and our extended family stayed for the week after. It was an excellent experience all around. This venue is perfect for weddings, as well as vacations and any sort of getaway. The dock and backyard are beautiful, and the house is comfortable and relaxing. The owners exceeded expectations by how nice and helpful they were, and we definitely hope to come back.
Swan's Nest was everything and more for our wedding on June 4th. We rented the property Thursday-Monday and had family, friends and the entire wedding party stay the entire weekend to make it an unforgettable event! We took advantage of the boats, volley ball court, games and the beauty of the property all weekend. Everyone had a blast!
The wedding was just incredible. Beautiful views, everything I could have ever dreamed of. Hap and his family helped to make sure everything ran smoothly throughout the entire weekend, especially on the wedding day! I cannot express enough how affordable and beautiful our wedding turned out. I'm still getting compliments and think this will be something we will all talk about for years to come!
I look forward to being able to rent the property again in the future with a group of family and friends.
I and my family arrived here on the 27 March and will be leaving on the 30 March 2016.
This is just our second day and we are loving it and enjoying all the wonderful things that are here to have fun with kids. Big playing ground, basket ball, volley ball and much more. The house is clean and beautiful. We are taking a big rest away from home. If you are looking for a place to get away with your family, team, friends or have retreat, I highly recommend this place. Everything you need for family is here. Thank you the SWAN NEXT for hosting us. Wonderful reception too. We are loving this place. Hap is so friendly and welcoming. Thanks.
This was the second visit for our large group of friends and we enjoyed it to the fullest! We roamed the property's trail, through the fields and by the pond and entered the serene woodland, enjoying the beautiful hardwoods and the wildlife. Returning to the farmhouse, some of us had lunch and played cards and Ping-Pong on the glassed in sunny porch while the kids played volleyball and capture the flag in the spacious yard. Before dinner, we strolled down the lane to the beautiful dock to sunbathe and walk along the shore. Some canoed on the river and through the creeks and marsh land trails while others relaxed by the water and caught up with old friendships. Toward dark we returned to the house to cook and enjoy dinner around the large dining room table. The kitchen provided an excellent place to prepare our large traditional pancake extravaganza the next morning as well! Sitting by the fireplace at night, we played games and a some found cozy, quiet places to curl up and read until bedtime. The bed rooms are spacious and comfortable and range from private king and queen beds to bunkroom settings for 'slumber party' gabbing. The sound of a variety of birds and waterfowl are a personal favorite of mine and the waterfront view is spectacular in the early morning or anytime and perfect for the photographers among us. Our last night was spent by the shore, around a campfire, gazing at the magnificent star filled heavens. Friends made it fun and Hap, by his thoughtful anticipation of our needs, made our stay memorable.
Hap was incredibly friendly and made our stay memorable! He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a nice time. The property is expansive and offers so many activities for families and individuals alike. There is plenty of room in the house and enough space for large groups. The house is quaint and cozy and would be fun in any season. The view of the water is exceptional. We especially enjoyed making use of the fire pit out by the water. A peaceful, and incredibly fun stay.
My friends and I were coming to Cambridge to race Ironman Maryland. We had booked Swan's Nest for the original race date of October 3, 2015. When we arrived for our stay, the race was cancelled because of Hurricane Joaquin, that was headed right towards Cambridge. Fortunately, the race was rescheduled (unprecedented, never happened before) to October 17, 2015 and Hap (the owner) was INCREDIBLY flexible with us. Finding housing in Cambridge for this race is incredibly difficult, we had booked a year in advance, and the stress of racing an Ironman is enough without having to deal with housing nightmares and rescheduling, so to have Hap on our side through all of this was invaluable.
And when race time finally came, the home was perfect. Close enough to town to get there quickly, but far enough away to give us a great, quite location to retreat from all the Ironman craziness. The kitchen is set up to be social, and we often found ourselves huddled around it. We were able to sleep everyone comfortably (11-12) and the house was large enough that I barely heard my friend's three teenage boys who stayed with us.
Swan's nest is not fancy, but I think that is what makes it so cozy. I napped out on the dock the day before the race. We spent hours sitting on the huge porches. While there is internet and TV, we never really turned it on because we were so busy with other things but also just relaxing and enjoying each other's company.
I definitely recommend Swan's Nest -- except the weekends when I want to return and then don't go, leave it free for me!
