("Private beach" in Michigan means that anyone outside these 4 cottages are not supposed to stop, sit, set up their beach gear and/or have a campfire, etc. on this private beach space. Still, with Michigan Beach Walker laws, anyone can walk through the private beach area, even though it is deemed "private.") . This private" beach area is situated on the shoreline between the Sawyer and Brandon Cottages, directly on the shores of Lake Michigan.

We work hard so you don't have to. Our goal is for guests have a wonderful vacation experience and assist our owners in maximizing their investment. We started this business 10 years ago, with the purchase of Republic Island, and added the Rapid River Lodge. We have a unique perspective, as we are both owners and property managers. We love the business and are enjoying it as it grows.
Having a place to go to directly on Lake Michigan where the family can enjoy the sand and swimming was very important to us. Located just 90 minutes from Chicago was ideal. "Harbor Country" has such a wonderful small-town feel that everyone can appreciate it here.
We love the large 2 tiered deck winding down to the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. We enjoy the large door walls facing Lake Michigan, the panoramic views, and sunsets are a sight to see! We also have a screened in porch facing the lake which is great in the summer!
Several friends and I stayed at the main house in April. The weather was chilly but perfect for cooking meals in the enormous kitchen (all needed pots/cutting boards/utensils provided) and drinking wine near the fire-place. The property was very well maintained and the house beautifully decorated. Even though it was a little cold, we took a walk on the beach (right outside the back door) and into the cute little town for coffee, about a mile. I could not have asked for a better vacation house and cannot wait to go back again!
Our group consisted of 5 women. The location and the house were perfect! The house was very clean and ready for our arrival. Our only complaints: 1) the parking lot was very full but we were able to find a spot when we needed it. The spots were rarely the assigned spot for our unit but it didn't seem to cause any issues. 2) the location of the dining table and the sofa chairs should have been reversed. The big draw of the house for us was the fantastic lake view. When sitting on the sofa/chairs next to the kitchen you couldn't see the lake! Please consider rearranging the furniture. Other than that, the house was perfect and I have already recommended it to a friend. Thank you!
5 star living, this is not. But if you're looking for a nice 'lived in' cottage feel this is amazing! You really can't beat the view for the price. We loved everything about it. Fire on the beach was perfect.
Once again, we had a great experience renting the cottages! Easy check-in, great location, quiet, even thought this year there were additional groups renting at the same time. Staff was very accommodating and we will definitely be back!
Loved it! The view, the beach, clean and plenty of room. Needed very little except a little extra cutlery, pans and dish towels but it was worth the drive. Will probably be back next year.
We recently stayed at Sawyer Cottage over Summer 2015. This is our third summer trip to Union Pier with kids. We've always had a great time, but our accommodation in the past has been nowhere as good as this!
We were immediately impressed by the size of the place and the layout. The bedrooms were all big and the communal space was very spacious. There are several dining locations inside and outside, all of which are beautiful and practical. The place has a very lived-in feel, which we found charming but others might feel as if its slightly run down.
The outside areas---decks as well as screened in porch---were great and the beach access was perfect. The private beach below the house was also perfect and never crowded.
We had a couple of issues with the rental---a broken dishwasher and problems with trash collection---that could not be resolved during our stay. Management were very apologetic however and promptly provided a partial refund. Obviously we were disappointed with the problems, but they didn't spoil the trip and we were most impressed with the manager's polite response.
Top notch. Will definitely come back in the future!
Very nice place..clean, well kept....location right on the beach....went there with a group of 7 to get away from the city for the weekend and could not recommend this place highly enough. Be sure to drop in to Greenbush Brewery for a cold one.
