Testimonial:: We just got back last Saturday from Maine. We’re still trying to adjust to life in South Florida again, but we keep dreaming of Maine and all its wonders. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and had a terrific time at the lake. We swam, fished, canoed, and picked wild blueberries and raspberries down at the edge of the water. In the evenings we would sit by the fire, roast marshmallows and then step outside to watch the night sky filled with thousands of stars. Though we’ve stayed in other houses in Maine, your house is in a wonderful location and so comfortable. Our favorite activity is to pack a lunch and to go sit on the rock ledge by the lake where we picnic, swim, canoe, and fish. Afterwards we finish our day with a scoop of ice cream at Round Pond. We also explored the different peninsulas, ate lobster rolls (repeatedly), and enjoyed every second of the cool weather. Damariscotta is a lovely little town as are so many in the surrounding area.

Beautiful place , Spent a wonderful time with my husband . The house is perfect for a big family or friends. Lots to do , Lovely little towns around to visit . Definitely a place we would love to go back .
We stayed in this house for the New Year Eve family reunion, three generations, party of 10. We drove from Boston to the property 2 1/2 hours. The house had everything we needed for a great stay. The lake in the back is beautiful. The owners have a canoe in the garage that the children enjoyed very much in the lake. A nearby supermarket was excellent to buy our meal supplies. Definitely, it is a come back!!!
This is one of the hidden gems among thousands of listings worldwide if you are looking to get away from it all, slow down, and spend time with family or friends in a beautiful, peaceful setting.
We were looking for yet another place to get the family together, and this proved ideal. No motor boats, no car traffic, just the sound of loons from time to time.
One feature not mentioned in other reviews or in the overview is that this location is an Audubon hotspot. Any birder looking for a base from which to add numerous species to his or her life-list would do well to book this house. From eider ducks near the coast to winter wrens to all sorts of warblers, not to mention loons, this is an ideal birder home base.
My granddaughter and I caught large smallmouth bass right from the flat rock serving as a dock at the lake's shore. We didn't even need the canoe provided.
We would book this place again in a minute if we were not constantly looking for new adventures every time we book. You simply cannot miss on this house if you are looking to immerse yourselves in a beautiful, quiet, natural setting near both fresh and salt water.
We recently returned from a wonderful stay at this home. Laurie was very accommodating as we booked our stay from Monday to Monday (which was much appreciated). If you haven't been to the mid-coast region before in the Fall, I strongly suggest it and if you are looking for place to stay, this home can't be beat. Just don't book the week that we want!!
The views overlooking McCurdy Pond were fantastic with the "rock" providing sufficient access for fishing with my young kinds and launching the canoe and my kayaks. The wooded path to the water was great with a well maintained path and the rear yard provided plenty of space for the 5 kids we had with us (all under 7) to play and roam.
When in town, be sure that you don't miss out on the local delicacy...no not lobster...Pemaquid oysters!! For my money, they are the best in the world. Freshly shucked on the back porch with some lemon, cocktail sauce, and a frosty beverage is pretty touch to beat.
The house itself was clean, well appointed and in good condition. The floor plan is open which was perfect for the 4 adults and 5 kids we had along. There are plenty of bathrooms and I have to say the beds are very comfortable. The only thing missing were a couple trash cans in the garage.
We had a yet another great trip to the Damariscotta region and made more great memories. We will certainly be back and would strongly recommend this home to anyone.
We stayed for 2 weeks and could easily have stayed another 2 weeks.
The property and house was larger than expected and well-maintained. The water in the pond was somewhat cool (but, hey, this IS Maine!) but that did not stop some of us taking a daily dip!
The silence and solitude was truly welcomed. The birds calling at night and in early morning. The fog from the pond wafting up through the trees creating a visual feast.
Acadia National Park was 2&1/2 hours away and made for a very enjoyable day trip. Portland not as far in the other direction. Pemiquid Lighthouse and Boothbay Harbor only about 1/2 hour away.
Have recommended it to family planning a 2014 Maine Vacation.
After spending 10 summer vacations on nearby Biscay Pond from '95 to '05, we were all anxious to return. Even though our daughters are in their twenties now, we were all hoping to enjoy similar experiences like we had in the past. This home did not disappoint. It was exactly as others have stated and as described in the listing. Laurie provided excellent customer service to me, especially with regard to a few minor issues. Marty, the local contact and handyman, was super. What a nice guy.
In addition to the places we regularly visited in the past (Round Pond Lobster Co-op, Round Top Ice Cream, downtown Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, Sarah's in Wiscasset, and tennis at public courts at Lincoln Academy in nearby Newcastle), we also had some good pub food at the Newcastle Publick House. Additionally, we ventured north to Sweetgrass Winery in Union one afternoon and enjoyed sampling some very nice, different wine and spirits.
We have already recommended this vacation home and area to many friends and relatives since we returned home, and we're hoping we can also return (if and when our busy schedules permit).
Other Activities: 1/2 mile to private beach area on the lake, blueberry picking
Golf: Thank you so much for the generous use of your home this past week.
It was my fist trip to New England and your home provided a comfortable, convenient and enjoyable point from which to explore Maine.
Thank you again!

We loved staying at the Maine House! Our 2 families of 4 were very comfortable. Rainy days afforded us relaxation with games and movies. This is a great place to unwind, especially at night, listening to the loon calls off the pond. The beach, lighthouses, whale watch and especially the Muscongus Bay Lobster Pound are a must! (The MBLP is also just up the street for a quick steamah and lobstah run for that midday craving!).

Ski: 'Have you ever previously rented a cottage or house only to arrive at the
location and say, 'what a horror show!' Well, it won't happen with this
rental. This lovely home has everything to offer - comfort, plenty of room,
clean!! - every amenity you would ever ask for when renting a home. We
brought along our two felines who had plenty of room to roam and plenty of
windows to view the outdoors. We brought along our kayaks which we covered
with a tarp and left down by the edge of the water. McCurdy Pond is
fabulous for kayaking - not boring, and calm enough to enjoy without fear of
tipping. Having washer and dryer available was definitely a plus. Being
able to put our vehicle in the garage was great given the fact that
unfortunately we had mostly rain for the two weeks we were there. You can
walk from the garage into the rear foyer - great for carrying in groceries
with the kitchen right around the corner. If you want peacefulness, this is
