About Jean Boatman

Jean Boatman, I am a vacation home owner along with my husband Wayne. My husband drives truck and I am an interior decorator/painter. We built and designied this cabin with comfort and up north decor in mind.

Jean Boatman purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Jean Boatman chose Birchwood

This home is for our enjoyment now and later when we retire. We had been managing a campground in this resort and love the area. There are so many great places to dine out & shop. We enjoy The Birchwood Cafe and Just Right On Main for dining and shopping. We decided to build when the new lots became available and were first to get the best veiw of the lake.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the people who come into this area. There is fishing, Atv trails and many nice shopping and entertaining things to do in the area. There is snowmobile trails in the winter and ice fishing or just relaxing in this comfy cabin. I also designed the basement to be either a family game area or it can be transformed into a space for scrapbooking and other crafts for up to 8 people.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We Love the Pine Cone Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd year in a row at the Pine Cone Retreat and we couldn't be happier with a place to "get away from it all."

This location has just about everything you could want: a beautiful deck to take in gorgeous views of the lake, a great paddle boat for use at the dock, plenty of room to spread out for everyone. It really is perfect!

While we were there, Wayne came up to replace the worn boards on the dock and raise it up a bit as the water is higher than normal due to all the rain we've gotten in Wisconsin this year. It was nice to have a "new" dock to use while we were there.

We're already planning our stay for next year! We just love it!

Amazing, snowmobile paradise.

  • 5 of 5

It was a cold start on the first morning of our stay 18 below zero, but you wouldn't know it unless you brought up the weather report on the internet, the cabin is warm and snug. We loved that the snowmobile trail was so close but don't worry we didn't hear the snowmobiles on the lake or on the near by trail, the cabin is well insulated. The trails surrounding the cabin were well groomed and the Tuscobia Trail was easily reached. I loved the oven, I wish I had one like this at home, it heats up in about 6 minutes (it tells you how long it will take to reach the temp you set it for!) and it cooked a rack full of bacon in 20 minutes. The cabin was perfect for our group of two couples. with a bedroom and bathroom on each floor we felt like we had total privacy. When we turn in for bed, you couldn't even hear the TV from the lower level on the main level. We even were able to use the deck on the second day or our stay as the temp reached 39 degrees. We had a cocktail outside as the sunset across the lake, it was magical. We will put this one on our list for next year.

Wonderful cabin! Well appointed.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for Birkie weekend. Drive to Hayward was a bit far, but the rates to rent this one offset that. A manageable drive of about 40 minutes due to snow covered roads during our stay. The cabin itself is very nice, clean and organized and extremely well maintained. Nice open feel to both levels. Dish Network Sattelite for TV's was great. Very well appointed with everything one would hope for in a home/cabin. Lots of various lighting throughout. Nice to have laundry right across master bedroom in the bathroom.

As mentioned in other review, about the only negatives were near lack of cell phone reception in immediate area(which is not owner's fault) and slower than used to internet. Neither of these would stop us from rentIng again as all of the positives far outweigh a couple of negatives.

Having the Spider Lake Saloon a very short walk away was convenient for us having a very tasty take out meal one evening.

Didn't get to experience advantage of wonderfully large deck, the outdoor area or the lake this visit. It was middle of winter and we were here to race the Birkie and enjoy the festivities in Hayward. We could see coming back some weekend in summer/fall here to experience the immediate outdoor benefits.

Anyway, we really enjoyed our stay and you can't go wrong rentIng this property.

What a find!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home was so functional and affordable. It provided us with separate living quarters with a great kitchen facilities to prepare and share meals.

It was so comforting to return to this home after our many trips. We visited Pattison, Amnicon, and interstate state parks. Waterfalls just awesome.we also enjoyed boat ride on St Croix river and train ride departing from Osceola Gambling trip to Red Cliff not so fun. Our last trip was to Phillips to see Wilson concrete park and all the amazing folk art.

Thanks Jean for providing such a wonderful respite. My wife adds that she really enjoyed the wine and all the scenic drives.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We found the retreat to be very convenient arranged with one bedroom upstairs and another down with two bunk bed's. The lower level was used for watching the football games which was pretty nice. A short trip to town for supplies, also nice. Not far from golf. Although there was no local TV in the cabin we were still able to see our Packers at Spider Lake Saloon just a short walk away. Washer and dryer in cabin which was really great. Soap and all supplies included. Will certainly consider visiting Pinecone Retreat again. Jean was great!
