A Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 stayed for the first week of August. The house is beautiful. Wonderfully restored and very spacious. There is a nice front porch with a swing, a large deck on the side and back of the home. For children, there is a swing set in the back yard. A gas grill was very much appreciated. The kitchen is well stocked and the home was VERY CLEAN. Always my top priority. The Master Bedroom and Bath are very large with lots of closet space.

One of the other tree bedrooms is massive with a large sitting area and a flat screen TV. The many windows provided lots of breeze and we were always comfortable. The location is a big loss. You can walk to town in 5 minutes and it is one block away from the second Mt Dessert Island Ice Cream Shop. The YMCA is around the corner and we used it daily. There are drop in rates for non-members and out of town members. We highly recommend this beautiful property.

Our Favorite Place to Stay on Mt. Desert

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed twice at this lovely family home, and plan to return many times more. It is comfortable, beautiful, very clean, well-stocked, and spacious. It is very well-located near the best restaurants in Bar Harbor and the end of the Shore Path, on the quieter side of town. You can bike or drive onto the Park Loop Road via a "back way" that starts only a few blocks from the cottage. The fenced back yard is a huge bonus for families with small children. The deck is large and comfy, and we've had several great evening barbecues on it. And I can't say enough good things about the owners, who are lovely to work with and incredibly thoughtful and helpful. We've stayed all around the island and at other houses in Bar Harbor, and this is by far our favorite cottage rental and favorite part of the island. I'm just not interested in staying anywhere else!

Wonderful stay June 2014

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful week stay from june 21-28 2014. The house was beautiful and very spacious. It has been kept immaculate. For my family, this house was in the perfect location, walking distance to town if we wanted to grab a bite to eat or do some shopping but on a quiet street. The kitchen is fully stocked with spices, pans, cups, dishes, whatever you would need. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and full of plenty of towels. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it. The owners are very organized and easy to work with.

I want to add that I choose my rentals based on reviews and although there are about 15 great reviews on here, there is a book full of many more in the house from happy families.

We look forward to staying here again.

Amazing time!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do this house justice. This was our 5th time in Bar Harbor, and this house was by far the nicest, most spacious house we have stayed in. Plenty of space for entertaining, which worked well with other family members staying in nearby homes. The home was well set up for small children with an entire cabinet devoted to plastic plates, cups and bowls and a great play set in the backyard, along with a few toys and games in the house. The location worked well for us. A few blocks further out of town, which meant nice and quiet, but still easily walkable to everything. And just a few short blocks to our favorite restaurant, Poor Boy's.

The kitchen was stocked with every spice you could think of, and plenty of pots and pans. The only issue was it took us a few minutes to figure out the surround sound TV in the living room!

We will absolutely try to stay at this house again when we come back to Bar Harbor.

Location, convenience and comfort

  • 5 of 5

Tapley Cottage is truly your home away from home. The owners take pride in providing every amenity possible to allow guests to simply "unpack" and then "play"!

The home is locate in a quiet residential area close to a small playground and park. Within a half mile you are in the " thick of things" amongst cruise ship passengers in shops or hop on the convenient buses and head into any of a hundred spots along the national park lands.

This was our second stay at Tapley, the first time nearly three years ago. Guests have been good stewards of this lovely home as evidenced by the excellent working order of appliances and condition of the furnishings.

Our first visit was in September, when cooler breezes are plentiful and a blanket on the bed is comfy. This visit was in July, and higher than normal temperatures made the home slightly uncomfortable during the hottest parts of the day. Owners provided ample fans to help keep air moving and we learned to take long, AC car rides to keep us cooled off!

The owners respond quickly to questions about local info or about how to operate things, when necessary. They are prompt in returning security deposits and are very much "customer oriented".

When guests arrive, the home is very clean and welcoming. The house is well maintained and organized. We appreciated them adding carpet to the stairs as they tended to be slippery in stocking feet...although we loved the wood floors "au natural"!

We love Bar Harbor - this was our eighth visit to the area, and we will be back again. We will plan early for our next visit to make sure that Tapley Cottage is available. Take our advice: don't hesitate to book this home NOW if you are even thinking of going to BH!

Perfect for our family of five

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home - it was as described and more. It was clean, comfortable, and a great location. We are a family of five adults. We were able to walk to town for our meals (Cafe This Way and McKay's Public House were two of our many favorites), sit on the front porch to read and relax, and go on hikes and come back to a lovely home. The owners are easy to work with and we would stay here again.
