I brought some of the guys up for a fishing trip after having stayed here with some friends a few years back. The first time I came up was immediately following the may fly hatch, so it was kind of a bummer when we didn't catch much, but this time was a completely different story. I told the guys we were going to a cabin, so they were all expecting to be crammed into some tiny little shack, no running water, and plywood for beds, as is usually the case on our trips. This "cabin" however is completely different. There is room for each person to have their own personal area, plenty space, two bathrooms, a kitchen with anything youd need to cook, or prepare food. This place is the ultimate getaway, whether is family, the guys, the girls, or whoever. If youre looking to stay at an awesome, peaceful place, this is it. The kids can play in the water right off the shore, where its pretty much beach sand for the first 150 yards, and the ladies can enjoy their time in the yard tanning, listening to music etc. Gary and his wife do an absolutely phenomenal job keeping this place super nice, and inviting. I feel like I'm at home every time I visit. Cant wait for the fishing trip this memorial day weekend. (May 2017)
This cabin is beautiful! We wanted to get away and enjoy some adventures in the Big Bay area. The setting on Lake Independence was breathtaking. Every detail is thought of by the Vargo's in this retreat. We cooked, laughed, played games, hiked, fished, enjoyed the fall colors and everything was nearby. We enjoyed many campfires and laughs. We will be back soon!
My husband and I contacted the owners on short notice and they accommodated us (and our cat) without hesitation. The house (it's more of a house than a cabin) was huge but had a cozy feel to it. We loved the indoor wood burning fireplace and view of the lake. We found a lot to do in the area, including mountain biking, hiking, waterfall sightseeing, beer sampling at breweries in Marquette, and a bunch of restaurants to try. We felt fortunate to be there during some amazing fall colors. The owners were so easy to work with and the house was clean. We would love to return in the summer to enjoy the deck, dock and porch!
this lake house offered it all!! all amenities,my favorites-bond fire, lovely beach with dock, private setting, great outside deck, out-door grill, all kinds of games inside for use. cabin was clean and great for large families! the area offered it all for all interest.if you are looking for a relaxing place and lots of fun-big bay is for you. also home owners are awesome.
My sisters and I rented this cabin and were amazed at the surroundings, inside and out. We came from 3 different states (TX, WV and NC). The cabin had everything we needed for our weeks' stay and provided the perfect backdrop for getting to know the UP. Everything in and around the cabin is geared for a fun and relaxing vacation and we certainly had that ourselves. We would highly recommend this rental for a small party of 3, to a large family vacation. Well within walking distance of Lake Superior and Lake Independence is charming. We could not have picked a better location nor people to rent from.
Our family had a wonderful stay here. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, campfires, playing cards, sight seeing and just being together. Our son had his 21st birthday during our stay and we took him to the Lumberjack for his first drink. I have to say that we had a great time. The memories we went home with we will cherish forever. The cabin had everything we needed (except the toaster didnt work) and was very comfortable during our stay. We caught some pike, walleye, perch and small mouth bass and the lake was very warm and the view of the lake and Huron mountians was amazing! If you need a place to relax this is it. We hope to be staying here again:)
