Natalie David purchased this house in 2003
We purchased this home after falling in love with it while staying there when it was a Bed and Breakfast. We were expecting our first child at the time, and moving to Wilmington, and this house felt like home from the first moment we entered it. The large, brightly lit rooms were filled with promise for a beautiful life with our growing family. As time went on we had three children while living there, and enjoyed an extremely memorable few years in Wilmington.
A few years later, we were disappointed to find out that we had to move for work purposes and tried to find a reason to keep the house We decided that turning it into a vacation rental would be a wonderful option. We now have the opportunity to share this home with others that want to experience the beauty and history of Wilmington and the 'Magnolia House.'
We found that the house had so many special qualities and we grew to truly appreciate not only the its architectural beauty, but the location, neighborhood, our neighbors, and all that Wilmington has to offer. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach, downtown's cultural activities and restaurants, the rich history of the area and so much more!
The house worked perfectly for the wedding! Everyone loved it and it was great to all be in one place and yet still have enough room where you don't feel cramped. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us :)
We had a wonderful time in Wilmington. The property was an easy walk to great restaurants and quirky shopping. The unusual layout of the upstairs bedrooms added to the fun. The kitchen was also very well equipped which we appreciated. We were also pleasantly surprised to discover the house beautifully decorated for Christmas.
My family and I rented this big beautiful home for a graduation weekend. The space was large enough to comfortably accommodate all 10 of us. The kitchen is well stocked; we weren't missing anything we needed; there was space for our breakfast, lunch and leftovers in the 2 refrigerators. The bedrooms were large and had enough beds and configurations to sleep singles, couples, and all. There were plenty of bathrooms and no one was waiting for a shower. The owner Natalie and the property manager Katie were both responsive to our contacts. They had even beautifully decorated the house with Christmas decorations and a tree. The house was clean but needed a couple of minor repairs (knob on the stove is broken). The location was good and we were able to get to all needed locations quickly and easily. We went to the battleship USS North Carolina which was a good fun event for all. Some family members walked around downtown which was nice and only about 5 minutes away. We had a celebratory dinner at The Pilot House which was a nice seafood meal with a nice environment. We went to The Oceanic about 20 minutes away for Sunday Brunch; which was also nice and with a great view. We ordered an amazing cake from One Belle Bakery 10 minutes away. When we weren't busy with other activities we relaxed in the house and played some of the games they have in the house. There is plenty of space and seating for everyone and to get away from each other for a bit if needed. The house is old and quite charming. Realize that this is an old home with beautiful features including hardwood floors. It's not a shiny new place so don't get it if that's what you desire. I would rent this house again and recommend it to others.
We stayed at the Magnolia House for 3 nights in November, 2016. We found the house very clean and comfortable. It was very large, so our extended family had plenty of room to spread out and relax. The backyard was very nice as it is fenced so our dog could be let out without worrying about him running away.
The 2 master bedrooms are very large and comfortable. One bedroom has a bathroom attached. The bed in that room is very comfy...much like a nest as it has soft sheets and mattress pad. So comfy after a long day of playing. The other master bedroom is also very large. Both master bedrooms have a TV. There is a large bedroom with a queen bed that has a TV available as well. There is a small bedroom in between one of the masters and the Queen room, which would be great for a small child. The largest bedroom is very bright with natural light and has 3 beds available. This would be a wonderful location for small children to be near their parents.
The kitchen was a great size. We really enjoyed the large table in the middle of the kitchen where we could gather in the mornings and plan the days events.
The historic value of the home was amazing. My children enjoyed checking out the features that were standard in an 80 year old home. It does have central air conditioning and heat which is nice in an older home. It is also close to downtown Wilmington and in a neighborhood surrounded by other similar historic homes. It is about 15 minutes from Wrightsville Beach, so not far for a daily excursion.
I would highly recommend a stay at Magnolia Home.
Charming historic home. Spacious rooms: bedrooms well laid out for privacy with common areas providing comfortable time together. Convenient parking at front and side of house. Quick drive to various areas of Wilmington.
We stayed at the Magnolia House in early August 2016 for a family reunion (visiting brother and his family at Fort Bragg, where he is stationed). We all came in from Oregon and Wisconsin. We had an absolutely wonderful time visiting Wilmington, the beaches, and staying at the Magnolia House. They younger children loved staying in the large kids room and had so much fun playing hide/seek and nerf gun battles in a large home and back yard. The kitchen is awesome, where most of the adults would gather most evenings to eat and visit. Katie was so accommodating in replacing a few burned out light bulbs. The home is gorgeous, though could use a paint job and repairs on a few things (noise from kitchen hood over stove) but otherwise, a great home to rent. Thank you Natalie for sharing your home! : )
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this historic home. It was a perfect size for our extended family (11 adults) who came into Wilmington for our son's wedding. It was very close to both our downtown rehearsal dinner and wedding reception venue. Although the home had a few things that showed their age, I considered them to be part of the charm of the old house with its original plumbing and wood floors. Katie, the manager, was very helpful. My son accidently left two card games at the house and Katie went out of her way to UPS them back to us. Overall, our stay was enjoyable and I'd recommend this property without hesitation. I hope that we can return soon to spend more time visiting Wilmington and the surrounding area.
