About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11-13)

Come and enjoy everything that downtown Wilmington has to offer from the comfort of this fully furnished, 4000 square foot home in the heart of WilmingtonThe Magnolia House is located in historic downtown Wilmington, just 15 blocks from the river. We are close to The Brooklyn Arts Center, several downtown coffee houses and art galleries, horse drawn carriage rides, the Cotton Exchange, Screen Gems Studio, haunted pub crawls, the beach, golf, and wonderful restaurants and shopping. Located in Carolina Heights, the Magnolia House is in an excellent location- just a 15 minute walk to the bustling riverfront, a 15 minute drive to the beach, and yet, perfectly situated amid the peaceful, tree lined residential streets of historic, downtown Wilmington. These are the historic "streetcar suburbs" of Wilmington. This Bed and Breakfast is very clean and well equipped for all your needs. Please note that since we do have a B&B license, we offer fresh fruit and continental breakfast items upon check-in for your convenience. We also offer bottled water throughout your stay.

The Magnolia House is a gathering place for families and friends celebrating milestones, or vacationing together and seeking private refuge after a day of sightseeing. This beautiful historic property is a delight! Every room is bathed in sunlight with huge windows, many facing the large garden in the backyard with its old gracious magnolia tree, and pathway leading down three steps to a lower formal garden, Camelia trees and Azaleas.

The house, built in 1921, is filled with original details including 10 foot ceilings, a wide brick path, the call buttons used in the 1920's. There are 3 fireplaces (one working) with large decorative mantels. The house has been included in the Wilmington Historic Foundation Historic Home Tour, and has also been used as a location for several TV series and commercials in the past.

Our guests tell us that they love the chef’s kitchen with its stainless steel countertops and three sinks. Cooking for a large group is a pleasure in this well equipped and spacious kitchen. There are 2 full sized refrigerators and a deep freezer, making this space easy to host a small gathering for your family. There is seating for 6 around the kitchen island for informal meals. The formal dining room seats 10 people comfortably for formal meals, including family gatherings, or holiday dinners.

The den is a comfortable retreat with cozy seating, built in book shelves, and a 42 inch flat screen 'smart' HDTV which allows you to wirelessly stream movies and TV shows and surf the Web. There is also an octagon shaped game table for an impromptu poker night! The shelves are stocked with puzzles and all the best board games for a fun evening in with the family. Our most recent addition to the den is an XBOX to keep the kids (and maybe even a few adults) entertained. There are 4 wireless remote controls and 17 games. Bring your games along with you if you have a favorite!

There is also formal living room with ample seating that is perfect for entertaining guests, or simply enjoying a cocktail by the fireplace on a winter night.

There are 5 large bedrooms (all located upstairs) with the following configurations:

Bedroom 1: Master bedroom: One King sized bed (with flat screen tv)

Bedroom 2: One Queen sized bed (with flat screen tv)

Bedroom 3: Second Master Bedroom-One King sized bed (with flat screen tv)

Bedroom 4 : One Full sized bed

Bedroom 5: Two twin sized beds and one full sized bed -OR can be configured as ONE full sized bed and ONE King sized bed--(This room connects to the master bedroom with solid wood french doors, so if you would like the doors open or closed, you have a choice. When the doors are closed, there is complete privacy, and the bedrooms are completely separate. if left open, the two rooms are connected and ideal for parents with very young children or infants.)

There is also a queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room, which can be set up for your convenience downstairs for guests who cannot walk up the stairs easily.

There are three full bathrooms with deep, oversized tubs located upstairs, and there is a half bath (no tub or shower) downstairs.

*Please note that all full bathrooms are located upstairs. There is a half bathroom (no bathtub) located downstairs near the sleeper sofa. The house is not handicap accessible.

The bathrooms in the house have original fixtures and floor tiles to preserve the beauty and integrity of this historic home. This is not new construction.

Pets will be considered on an individual basis, so please inquire before booking the house. We are generally a pet friendly home! There is even a pet door to the fenced backyard. If your pet is authorized, you must sign a pet agreement. Your pet MUST BE on flea control to be considered. Pets are not allowed on furniture. Pets are not allowed on beds.

Enjoy the peaceful backyard and watch the kids play on the swing set (there is an infant seat, too) and slide while you grill outdoors on the charcoal weber grill.

We have a pack 'n play, stroller, and high chair for babies. There are also many toys and books for children to enjoy.

**Please also note that we do not authorize the use of the home for large, noisy parties. This is a residential neighborhood and we are respectful of our neighbors' right to a quiet and peaceful environment.

Throughout the year, the Magnolia House offers the comforts of home in the wonderful Port City! Let us show you what it is like to live in the historic district of this enchanting town. One warning....you may never want to leave!

About Natalie

We are a family of five living in Wilmington and loving our beautiful city! Natalie began her career in hospitality management at The St. Regis Hotel in NYC and has a strong commitment to guest comfort and satisfaction. By purchasing the B&B, we fulfilled a life long dream.

Natalie purchased this house in 2003

Why Natalie chose Wilmington

We purchased this home after falling in love with it while staying as guests in the Bed and Breakfast. We were expecting our first child at the time, and moving to Wilmington, and this house felt like home from the first moment we entered it. The large, brightly lit rooms were filled with promise for a beautiful life with our growing family. As time went on we welcomed three children into our family while living in this home, and that has been the most important and exciting time of our lives. We now have the opportunity to share Magnolia House with others that want to experience the beauty and history of Wilmington and Carolina Heights.

What makes this house unique

Our house has so many special qualities that are a joy to see. What makes it special to us is its history and the architectural beauty. The front door alone is a beauty and is unlike any other front door in the city. The traditional 1920s colonial style with arches, intricate carvings in the fireplace mantles, beautiful tile in the bathroom, light sconces with beautiful original glass , and the high ceilings are not what you would find in any new construction. Wilmington is also a special destination, rich in history and culture, and it is our pleasure to share it with you.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Natalie,

The house worked perfectly for the wedding! Everyone loved it and it was great to all be in one place and yet still have enough room where you don't feel cramped. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us :)

Perfect for Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

This was headquarters for my daughter's weeding weekend and it worked perfectly. Was great to have a gathering place for family and friends so close to downtown.

Our Son's Wedding Weekend - Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Natalie - thank you so much for opening up your wonderful home and sharing with others! It is one of the most beautiful, classic homes in Wilmington. Our son's wedding memories were made more special because your home made us feel like we were at home! We had everything we needed and the way your home flows, it was just wonderful! The kitchen is so big and the laundry room with two refrigerators and freezer were an added bonus for all our wedding extras! On Sunday evening, we had the remaining family members over and it was so nice to be able to sit around and enjoy the comfortable furniture and warm ambience. Weddings are hectic, but your home made us feel more relaxed! We hope to visit again in the future. Warmest Regards, Donnette G.

Great Weekend at Magnolia House

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a great time at Magnolia House. It was beautiful and spacious with a lot of charm and Natalie was so helpful with anything we needed. The location is great too - a $5-10 Uber to anywhere downtown and $25 Uber to the beach. Wouldn't change a thing!

Abosoluty wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This is a gorgeous period home that takes you back in time with every doorway. My children referred to it as the secret passage house and truly it is a passage way back in time to a lost art of early amarican carpentry unique to the south. We had a party of 12 and never felt crowded.

Lovely home for a large family vacation.

This home is ideal for a family reunion or for entertaining. We attended our grandson's wedding and held the dress rehersal luncheon here. Would definitely recommend this home to all.
