We are a family of five currently living in California.
Natalie David purchased this house in 2003
We purchased this home after falling in love with it while staying there when it was a Bed and Breakfast. We were expecting our first child at the time, and moving to Wilmington, and this house felt like home from the first moment we entered it. The large, brightly lit rooms were filled with promise for a beautiful life with our growing family. As time went on we had three children while living there, and enjoyed an extremely memorable few years in Wilmington.
A few years later, we were disappointed to find out that we had to move for work purposes and tried to find a reason to keep the house We decided that turning it into a vacation rental would be a wonderful option. We now have the opportunity to share this home with others that want to experience the beauty and history of Wilmington and the 'Magnolia House.'
We found that the house had so many special qualities and we grew to truly appreciate not only the its architectural beauty, but the location, neighborhood, our neighbors, and all that Wilmington has to offer. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach, downtown's cultural activities and restaurants, the rich history of the area and so much more!
The house worked perfectly for the wedding! Everyone loved it and it was great to all be in one place and yet still have enough room where you don't feel cramped. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us :)
We had a great time at this house. You can tell the house is lived in, which makes it more desirable for families. We were able to spend quality time together as a family while having our own individual spaces to retreat to as well. There were some small areas that were being renovated. It did not interfere with our stay. They offer many amenities. Make sure you have extra trash bags, washing powder to keep your towels clean, and basic things like extra paper towels and toilet paper. I would recommend this property to others.
Very nice home with large bedrooms. Well equipped and kept up very nicely. Convenient location to downtown and not far to the beach and shopping. Owner Natalie and manager Katie both very helpful!
We rented Magnolia house for a week starting a few days before my son got married. The whole process was effortless. I called Natalie, the owner and not only was she very pleasant to talk to, she was a "wealth of information" about the area including helpful recommendations for a number of caterers, rental companies, wedding planners etc. I really enjoyed our conversation. We hosted the rehearsal dinner at Magnolia house and it was perfect! Many commented that it was so much more relaxing and enjoyable having it in this big, beautiful, historic home than to be at a restaurant formally sitting around tables! This way our guests could mingle and get a chance to meet everyone. Even with 35 people in the house, it didn't seem crowded at all because of the huge rooms downstairs and the layout. We used the entire first floor for entertaining and the caterers had their own space with 2 refrigerators and a large freezer. We rented 4 6’ rectangular tables for the food and beverage plus 3 high top bar tables with stools and still had plenty of space! In addition, we decorated the huge magnolia tree out back with string lights and set up games for the wedding party i.e. cornhole, giant Jenga. Katie the manager was very responsive to our questions via text and phone calls. In addition to the rehearsal dinner, we were able to provide "housing" for all of the groomsmen, parents, and grandparents (saving us a lot of money)! At first I worried that having all of those people in one house for a week would be difficult (especially during stressful times such as a wedding) but I needn't have worried because there was plenty of space for both visiting and quiet time when needed! The beds and bed linens were very comfortable, the house was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. Overall, I was thrilled with our experience and would recommend it to anyone needing a large comfortable space for entertaining and/or housing a large group! Thank you Natalie and Katie for all of your help!
This was our second visit to Magnolia House and this time we were able to really appreciate the large rooms, great family-sized kitchen and all the comforts of home. There was plenty of room for our party of 7! Our grandchildren loved exploring all stairs and inter-connected rooms. The location was perfect for visits to downtown Wilmington, the nearby beaches, the NC aquarium, the battleship North Carolina, and lots of other local sights, restaurants and attractions.
The house was ready as promised and owner and manager were always available to answer questions and provide any assistance we needed.
We have now celebrated both our daughter's marriage and her five year anniversary at Magnolia House. We look forward to a return visit with even more of the family!
I highly recommend Magnolia House for any family visiting the Wilmington area for any occasion!
What an amazing home. We love the old world charm, and the updated amenities which fit perfectly together in this home. We had so much room for us all (13 adults!) , and it provided a great central meeting spot for family and friends to meet, greet, and eat! Located near downtown, and close enough to walk to! We even had a dog with us, who was accepted at most stores and George's restaurant at the river. 9 minutes to the airport, yet no air traffic at all! Wrightsville Beach is wonderful, with parking and access to the public. The Oceanic restaurant was nicely located right on the beach, reminding us of our NJ beach restaurant. We enjoyed playing games at the table in the family room, some which are supplied, some we brought. It was so enjoyable. Two refrigerators! We could cool all the beer and white wine for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding! Fantastic! Fully-stocked kitchen with every pot, pan, plate, glass, bowl you would need, even enough for a larger group! Linens, pillows and blankets are all provided, but I would bring/buy extra toilet paper, as they supply a few rolls, but with a larger group staying at the house, you will need to replenish. Same would be true for trash bags.
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. With the "stress" of a wedding, it was good to know that our accommodations were not an issue in the least.
We enjoyed staying in this stately home. It is beautiful and adds to the experience in historic Wilmington. It`s a very large home and well furnished. I would recommend this home and the owner is easy to work with.
