About christine LEONARD

I runned a marketing company and sold it in 2007 now I am interior decorator in provence.

christine LEONARD purchased this house boat in 1998

Why christine LEONARD chose 8th Arrondissement Champs Elysees

when I found this houseboat, I sold it the day after the visit. It is unusual to find such a barge in this marvellous location.

What makes this house boat unique

it is another world, quiet even you are in the heart of paris. You can visit famous monuments, only by walking. Lay out with these types of view is also a real advantage.

Awesome location in Paris.

The Seine is the heartbeat of Paris and this is a wonderful opportunity to experience living on it.

Close enough to everything if you choose to walk and surrounded by metro stations {10 minutes in each direction} that will take you anywhere you wish to go... or do what we did and take a two day ticket for the batobus that stops along the river at major attractions. Easy access by metro to major stations for getting out of Paris to other towns and cities in France.

Best thing ever is to sit on the deck of Risico and enjoy wine and cheese, watching the world enjoy Paris, complete with a fantastic view of the Eiffel tower, in the sunset and illuminated !

Groceries and restaurants are about 10 { very enjoyable} minutes walk away.

Nights are quiet as the boat is below the street level and river noise abates after about 11pm. Below decks river noise is very muted and movement is minimal.

The boat is very well equipped, better than any self catering option we have ever had before. It was wonderful to have all the essentials in the cupboards to get us started.

Christine was very easy to deal with for booking, arriving and leaving. We appreciated her assistance and the nice fat binder provided in the boat. She is very honest about the challenges and pleasures of living on a boat.

The reason that we have awarded just 4 stars is the single toilet. It is very small indeed, in fact we found it difficult to be inside and shut the door.

We enjoyed our stay on Risico very much and would definitely stay again of we returned to Paris.

Greatest place to spend a great family vacation in Paris

  • 5 of 5

Me, my husband and our 4 kids spent a whole month in the Risico and had the greatest time in Paris!! The location is unreal with a great view of the Eiffel Tower in one side and the Orsay Museum on the other!! We did everything by foot! Walked every corner as everything is nearby! The boat has everything you could need to be confortable! Everything was very clean and you can tell its been remodelled recently!!

So if you want a great location with great views to live Paris, the Risico is a great option!!

Summer trip to Paris

  • 5 of 5

This was a trip to remember! My daughter, son , Grandmother and I loved the location. You can't get closer to so many sites than this. The boat was beautifully appointed with an incredibly well stocked kitchen. The views from the top deck were amazing. As others have said, the ceiling is low, my son is 6'3 but we managed just fine. I would suggest staying here to most anyone as it is a unique way to see and explore Paris.

Best place in Paris for family holiday?

  • 5 of 5

We had a superb week on Risico. Sitting out on the deck every night, having our evening meal, with view of the Eiffel Tower was a truly memorable experience. Our kids loved being able to sleep in a cabin. The onboard facilities were excellent - all our needs were catered for.

We wanted both a theme park holiday, with some city experience, but also the chance for our kids to stay on a boat - all boxes ticked! This location cannot be beaten. We watched the cruise ships pass at night , with many being expensive floating restaurants, feeling smug knowing that we were dining on the water every night.

Before booking , I had stumbled across Risico on the internet, reading a review by some chap from NW United States - he had said the only legitimate booking agent was one in the US, but we booked through VRBO/homeway with no problems - we dealt with Christine (who was a pleasure to deal with), and who is indeed the "real deal".

Door-to-door to Disneyland Paris is just over one hour - no problems for us, as our rural children loved the Metro, and to be honest, it was chance to read a book for a bit. The nearest Metro (Concorde) was a 5 min walk. We also ventured to Parc Asterix (using the Metro to get to CDG Airport, then using the organised shuttle bus from there (we decided against the Louvre bus option, as there is only one per day, and trip advisor reports it can be unreliable - there are multiple buses form CDG giving more flexibility) - Parc Asterix was about 90 mins door-to-door (and hey, someone else was doing the driving), and well worth the trip, with a slightly better choice of rides for our 9 and 7 year olds.

The nearest supermarket was 0.5 miles away, with similar for a bakery.

I'm 1.8m tall, and I had no problem with the ceiling height. Quick wifi (9 MB/s) available

Whilst in Paris, we visited the Catacombs (arrive early!), the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and Jardins De Luxembourg (toy ship boating lake- great fun!).

Overall, Risico provided a memorable back-drop for a full-on week that we will all remember.

Remarkable location but challenging in other ways

  • 3 of 5

When you climb on deck and see the Eiffel Tower each morning and night, you forgive the spiders and the frequent head-bumping. I'd read all the amazing reviews, and truly did love being here in many ways, but anyone above 5'10" will not be able to stand up inside, and anyone else will constantly bump their head getting into the rear bedroom, laundry crawl space, and up and down the entrance ladder. Despite clearing the deck of spiderwebs at least twice a day, my kids suffered frequent bites, and Carlos had no suggestions to help with that. I would highly recommend that they get a pest control company to spray. There is only one toilet, not in the master ensuite but in the main area, and its flushing capabilities are very sensitive (reminds you of being in an airplane or RV bathroom). Also, be aware that there is no nearby grocery store, so it's a very long walk to bring back any provisions, and having no real address to give taxi drivers is definitely confusing. It's a very unique property, and glad we tried it, but wouldn't return. Just had to give some warnings along with the glowing reviews here.

Owner's Response: Dear Anita, We are a bit saddened to read your comments. We have rented the houseboat over 50 times and often to guests who come back year after year. But it is true that a houseboat is not for everyone. A houseboat has low ceilings. It's just a fact and that's why we were careful to point out that fact in our first correspondence with you back in December 2013. And as for having just 1 toilet, the description of the boat and its amenities as well as the floor plan clearly list 1 toilet. We're sorry you felt that wasn't adequate for your family. The boat is located in the heart of Paris and is within easy walking distance to so many tourist attractions and shopping. A 10 minute walk along the Seine and you're at rue du Bac and so many wonderful grocery shops and bakeries. Most of our guests are happy to make that walk and discover the charms of Paris. Given this is a houseboat, it is on the water surrounded by trees so yes we have spiders who leave spider webs. There really isn't much we can do about them. We sweep, they come back. We do appreciate however you taking the time to send us your comments and we hope you all had a nice stay in Paris.
