Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 5.

Feel like you are in the middle of the Adirondacks yet shopping and attractions are only minutes away. This historic stone cabin is located along a dead end road. Surrounded by mountains and water it is very private. The cabin offers wonderful lake views. There is a screened in porch overlooking the lake, a wonderful place to start your day. Then go down the stairs to your private lake front and take a swim. The lake is great for swimming, fishing and boating. While the water off the dock is shallow with a sandy bottom it gets deeper so you can jump in off the end of the dock. After a lovely day at the lake, have diner on the outdoor patio and relax in front of the campfire. What a perfect day in the Adirondacks! Want to do something else tomorrow? Just check out the local chamber of commerce web site. There are amusement parks, outlet shopping, museums, malls, restaurants, hiking, white water rafting, horseback riding, etc. We are sure you will have a great time.

Glen Lake: Glen Lake is approximately 3 miles long. The cabin is located in the deeper wider sections of the lake. There are two islands, the larger one has a lighthouse and cabin. There is a restaurant on the opposite side of the lake 'The Docksider'. The fishing is wonderful. There is a wetland, swamp area at the inflow of the lake which is full of wildlife and birds. The view from the cabin is of Prospect Mountain, French Mountain and the other mountains separating Glen Lake from Lake George. The water is comfortable and great for swimming and activities. Most of the homes along the lake are year round and it tends to be very quite during the week, especially during the day. It is truly a beautiful place to be.

The cabin: The cabin was built during the 1930's. It is very lovely and surrounded by woods tucked into the side of the hill. The cabin is located on the same property as the owners home. The driveway is shared but the landscaping very nicely separates the two. You have your own private swimming area. It is wooded on either side of the swim area (no one has a beach or swim area right next to you). The view from the screened in porch is breath taking. You can see up the lake, the islands and the sunsets.

Guest comments: We have been renting the cabin for 5 years. Everyone who has stayed with us has really enjoyed the place.

'It is so relaxing' 'Beautiful location' 'Great fishing' 'Plenty of activities for everyone' 'One week is not enough' 'Nicer than we thought'

About Clair Hensler

My husband and I grew up in the area but we didn't meet until we in our 30's. He is an MD practicing ENT and allergy in Saratoga Springs. I manage the practice and run the household. We have one daughter in college and a few pets. We have always wanted to live on the water so being here is like a dream come true.

Why Clair Hensler chose Lake George Area

My husband grew up in the area and spent summers at the camp next door. We purchased the cabin shortly after we were married and spent summers there. Once our daugher was born we decided to build our year round home next door. It was important for us to maintain the natural beauty of the cabin and its surrounding. We wanted to be able to share this wonderful place with others.

What makes this cabin unique

I just love being so close to everything but when I am at the cabin I feel like I am in the middle of the Adirondacks.

Sitting on the screened porch is like sittling in a tree house. The sunsets can be magnificent.

Beautiful!

What a lovely place to stay. Very private and relaxing. Kayaking everyday in the lake was the best.

Comfy and cozy hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This cute rustic lake house is nestled at the end of a long dead-end winding road.

It's also really close to Great Escapes Six flags theme park, which we originally planned to visit, but didn't and the kids didn't even miss it.

Myself, my hubs, our 3 pre/teens, as well as our doggies stayed here for the 4 day Labor -day weekend and loved it.

The rooms / beds are small but comfy. There are 3 small bedrooms upstairs, 1 × 1 twin bed, 1 × (2) twins, and a 3rd w/a full size bed.

The hubs and I are pretty tall 6'4" & 5'10 so we decided the futon downstairs in the livingroom was better and it was actually comfy.

Everything was super clean and FULLY stocked, lots of pillows and towels...I mean... Everything was there... all we needed was paper products and groceries and we were good.

Rob and Clair were even nice enough bring over Kayaks for us to use.

We visited nearby Lake George, made dinner on the gas grill, roasted marshmallows, painted the scenic views, went for walks, and watched the kids and dogs enjoy playing in the lake.

They've upgraded the water heater... with 5 people we never once experienced losing hot water, wich was really nice.

Rob and Clair are lovely people and animal lovers, who graciously invited us children to visit their chickens, goats, and lovely dog George... they even sent us home with fresh eggs.

We will definitely be back. Thanks a bunch.

Overall, a lovely and peaceful place to stay...however.

  • 3 of 5

This is a review from myself and the two women I traveled with this weekend; Unfortunately, we ran into problems very early in the morning on departure day with a non-functioning toilet. The handle actually broke in my friens's hand as well. When we walked to the main house to notify the owner, she did nothing to hide her displeasure of us bothering her. She came over with a scowl on her face to look at the toilet problem, and apparently "snaked" something out of it from God knows when. She then, in no uncertain terms, told us that we must have flushed something large down the toilet… Which of course was 100% untrue. When I mentioned that it could have possibly been the people before us, she absolutely discounted that idea entirely, and said it could not have been the people before us. We were decades-old women friends just trying to get away for a quiet weekend. And we are all past "that stage" in our lives, where we flush sanitary products down the toilet. The lady of the house/landlady wasn't the slightest bit apologetic for our inconvenience of not having a working bathroom for the remainder of our stay, and didn't even offer to let us use the bathroom in her home only feet away from the guest house. Very disappointing, very unkind, and unprofessional behavior toward guests in her home. We enjoyed the house, and would have loved to come here again. But we will absolutely need to seek out another cottage this time next year, due to the renters unfortunate rudeness. As I write this, she came in and told us we didn't need to rush out, because she didn't have renters following us. Then proceeded to go upstairs and fix the toilet. I guess that's her non-apology apology. Unfortunately, it was too little too late for us to prevent leaving a bad taste in our mouths.

Owner's Response: I am sorry these ladies felt this way. I made an exception of renting to them for the weekend when I usually only rent by the week in July and August because they were very insistent. I was unable to rent the remaining period which was disappointing. I was alseep Sunday morning when they woke me to tell me the toilet wasn't working. I got dressed and went right over. I repaired the toilet as quickly as I could. I removed the blockage but had to go to the store to get a new part. The toilet worked fine for Friday and Saturday and was functioning when I cleaned it prior to their arrival. I was not feeling well Sunday morning and I am sure that came across. I believe we are all entitled to a bad day. If you read the other reviews, you will see this is a very unique situation.

We had a wonderful relaxing week with our two adult children and our dog. We especially liked the proximity to the bikeway. Clair was friendly and responsive, and we would definitely consider renting this property again.

Fun and relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a week in August and could not have been happier with our choice. My daughter and niece had a wonderful time in the lake. They would spend hours swimming, playing, kayaking and jumping off the trampoline. Lake George town is not too far away and there are tons of other things to do in the area; hiking, Six Flags, lots of great restaurants, , mini-golf and arcades, which the girls loved, and of course the Saratoga Spring horse races! Before our last day was over we were already talking about coming back. Robert, Clair and adorable George (their yellow lab) were very nice hosts and will respect your privacy in this beautifully secluded cabin.

Car: recommended

Feel like your miles away from everything in this secluded historic stone cabin but your really only minutes away from all kinds of activities. We are close to the bike path, near golf courses, close to amusement parks and mini golf, go carts and outlet shopping. To the south we are minutes from Saratoga where you can find the oldest flat track and a casino. To the north is beautiful Lake George 'the queen of lakes' and the gate way to the Adirondack park. There is so much to do a week is hardly enough time.
