Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)
Our family has a long history vacationing in the Islands, visiting Maui since the 1960's and later visiting Sarah's mother when she moved to Kihei Kai Nani in 1974. Summers are spent in Anchorage, Alaska, with visits to California in spring and fall to see the grandchildren. We all look forward to our winter vacations in Hawaii, and so far have been fortunate that the whole family gathers there most every year.

Why Owner chose Kihei
Kihei Kai Nani is a quiet complex consisting entirely of one bedroom units directly across the street from the Kamaole Beach II. The location is fabulous - shopping and restaurants are within walking distance and the beach is one of the nicest in the area. The lifeguard stations are an added benefit.
What makes this Condo unique
Our unit at Kihei Kai Nani is an end unit on the top floor of Building #11 with windows on three sides making it sunny and bright and allowing the trade winds to flow through the unit. The most unique benefit is the 1500 square foot private deck, one of the few in the complex, perfect for outdoor dining and sunbathing. The super sized swimming pool is great for swimming laps. Other unique amenities include a shuffleboard court and an outdoor, covered pavilion which one can reserve for private parties. The staff is great - friendly and helpful.

Hope there’s no heat wave . . .
So, the space is fine, a little dated but adequate for our needs, and the owner seems kind and engaged (despite having forgotten to send us the check in instructions).
Biggest problem is the a/c. We were there during an unusual warm spell and the noisy window a/c units just couldn’t get the job done. We could never get the bedroom unit below 80, and the living room one seems even more inefficient. The bedroom unit needed to run at night but it was super loud and sometimes caused the window panes to rattle. Very uncomfortable.
Add to that the old, uncomfortable bed which others have mentioned, and the fact that the tub drains very slowly (which others have also mentioned); and it adds up to a less than satisfactory experience.
Time for some upgrades . . .
Thanks for your review, Chip. As you are aware, Kihei has had record high temperatures this summer and it is indeed difficult to cool the condo, even with two window units. I am looking into replacing the living room A/C with a much more powerful one, even though the existing one is not even a year old.
I think the previous comment about the bedding referred to one set of older linens my substitute housekeepers used when making up the bed. The bed is only five years old and was a good quality set from a high end furniture store.
The slow bath drain is a constant problem as some guests don't shower at outside showers when returning from the beach and all the sand is deposited in the tub and down the drain. We try to keep on top of the problem and my contractor cleans it out often.
Maui Rental in Kihei
Sarah was so kind and helpful planning our stay in Maui. Finding the location was somewhat tricky and the bedding is old and yucky. But other than that the apartment is gorgeous and great location on Maui. I would not hesitate to book this rental.
My wife and I spent a week here in March of 2018 and we were very happy with these accommodations. The condo was spacious, clean and well ventilated. It was comfortably furnished and stocked with everything we needed for cooking. It provided us with exclusive access to an enormous third-floor open-air patio (in addition to the covered lanai), offering us an impressive vista of Haleakala’s summit. It did afford a limited line of sight to the Pacific which came in handy when we wanted to know how rough that water was before heading to the beach. We had no problems finding convenient parking in the lot and noise from outside was minimal.
The location was excellent. We were able walk to the beach with no difficulty. Portable beach chairs, towels and mats were thoughtfully provided by the owner. As others have stated, supplies, food and shopping were all within easy walking distance. It is tough to imagine a better value in Kihei.
Incredible location! Gorgeous condo, with HUGE deck and wonderful light! One of a kind
I've been traveling to Maui for years and this condo is my absolute favorite place to stay on the island. Located in the southern-most part of Kihei just up the road from Wailea and close to great beaches, restaurants and shopping all within a few minutes walk. My wife LOVED the ice cream place next to the condo development and I LOVED being right across the street from the Kamaole beaches! The rocky pier on the left part of the beach was great for snorkeling and the middle of the beach was perfect for swimming with sandy wading and crystal clear water. We saw turtles and an eel and so many fish right off this beach.
The condo itself is gorgeous and really, really well appointed. It is an end unit so has windows on three sides and gets amazing light in the morning and is cool and shaded in the afternoon. AND THE DECK!! OMG! This unit appears to be one of only a few in the entire development with a ABSOLUTELY ENORMOUS private deck as well as the smaller deck that all units seem to have. We felt like rock stars sitting out in the morning with our coffee and then in the evenings with our cocktails!
Possibly the most elegant rental I've ever seen. Very tastefully decorated and super well appointed--this place had everything we needed. Huge beach towels and chairs, coolers and an umbrella for the beach. We ate in about half the time and found pretty much everything we could want in the kitchen and the grill downstairs was a nice Weber unit that was cleaned by staff every day.
Things to know: It is a top floor unit (3rd floor) so along with the amazing views, there are stairs. We are hardly in good shape and weren't bothered by them at all. One side of the condo faces the parking lot and while it was usually pretty quiet after about 9-9:30, someone's car alarm went off in the middle of the night once and woke us up. Didn't happen again over 9 nights so am chalking it up to bad luck. As other reviewers have noted, the deck can get really hot in the afternoon, but that's when we'd retreat to the smaller and (much cooler) covered deck along the back of the condo.
We returned from Maui last week refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated and are already looking forward to returning to this wonderful Hawaiian home in the future! This condo is a real find and I can't imagine a better value for the money.
Another wonderful stay
My partner and I stay here every time we visit Maui. We've stayed elsewhere but always come back. It's comfortable, and feels like home in Hawaii. It's also considerably quieter than many of the other condos in the area, which makes it more relaxing for us.
The location is so good we didn't even rent a car this year. It's less than a 5 minute walk to the beach. A very short walk to a cute Hawaiian 'ABC' convenience store that has an awful lot for such a small little store. Also, try the homemade cinnamon buns next door! There are several decent restaurants within close walking distance, and quite good ones a little further away. There's a free bus that stops right in front of the condo area and will take you across island or at any stop in between. There is also "Turtle Tracks" which is a $2 shuttle that will take you just about anywhere in Kihei and Wailea.
Sarah, the owner, is always very responsive and friendly. She clearly takes good care of the condo and there are subtle improvements every year we come back.
If we had one "complaint" it would be that the bathroom and shower drains are sometimes slow to drain... our guess is that it's from other guests not rinsing sand off sufficiently after the beach.
All in all, always a very comfortable stay in a great area. We're looking forward to our next trip back!
Perfect location across street from beach!
Loved the ease of snorkeling with fish and turtles, then back to condo for rest breaks. Walking distance to restaurants, shops and grocery. My 11 and 13 year old daughters enjoyed their first time to Hawaii! Thanks so much!
Whale watching and many other ocean and beach activities.
