Carr's River Cabin

This Castella vacation rental features a covered back porch with an expansive view of the river. From the porch, back yard, or river's edge, on any given morning or evening, you can view the area's abundant wildlife to include hatches, fish rising, osprey, heron, mink, ducks, deer and the occasional river otter. The large shaded back yard includes a picnic table, gas BBQ and lawn furniture.

The cabin is clean and cozy. The living room has a rock fireplace for ambiance and additional heat and the master bath features a claw foot bathtub with a view of the river. There are plenty of books and games available to read or play. It also includes a new HDTV, Nintendo Gamecube console and dvd/vcr player.

Those interested in trains may find the front porch as an ideal locale for observing and photographing rail traffic. Water and other recreation pursuits include fishing, swimming, inner-tubing, rafting, kayaking and mountain biking. Please bring your own gear!

Surrounding areas:

The cabin is located 1 mile from the Castle Crags State Park (featuring 27 miles of hiking trails including the Pacific Crest Trail). The park is located in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and serves as the gateway to the Castle Crags Wilderness Area, Seven Lakes Basin and the Shasta-Trinity Divide. These areas are easily accessible by well-maintained U.S. Forest Service roads. The area is also user-friendly for the ATV and off-road user.

The cabin is located 30 minutes or less from two 9-hole golf courses located in Weed and McCloud as well as two 18-hole golf courses located at Mt. Shasta Resort and Lake Shastina. Public play is accepted. Mt. Shasta Resort has four tennis courts with community access and no user fee.

If you are a winter sports enthusiast, we are less than 30 minutes from the Mt. Shasta Board and Ski Park and the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center. The immediate surrounding area presents venues for unlimited cross country skiing, back country skiing and snowmobiling.

Surrounding towns:

Dunsmuir, located 4 miles north, is rich in railroad lore. Train buffs will enjoy the roundtable and the numerous train artifacts exhibited throughout the community. Awesome setting !!

  • 4 of 5

Spent 3 wonderful days here - definitely not enough !! The cabin was built in 1904 so it is a little quirky. We had fabulous weather to enjoy sitting out in the yard watching the river go by - even did a little fishing. The dogs loved it too !! Definitely a comeback !!

Charming little house by the river

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at Ken and Mona Carr's lovely river cabin. Everything was neat and clean and decorated with such care. Very comfortable and just a beautiful setting by the river. We loved the trains going by. Ken and Mona were wonderful hosts who made our stay easy and quiet. We look forward to returning when we have more time.

Amazing Place, Loved it at first sight!

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our family vacation and our stay in this cabin was great. The location near the river is Gorgeous! The landscape is very well maintained, and the sound of the river is relaxing. A few steps out the backdoor and you are at the riverbank. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with any items needed for your stay. We stayed a week and felt at home from day one! Ken and Mona the owners are truly wonderful! We look forward to booking this cabin again in the future!

Relaxing and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely place that we would like to return to some day. The trains can be a bit distracting as they go by, but fun to watch.

What a Wonderful Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I rented this beautiful cabin for myself, daughter and granddaughter to just relax in for 3 night. We had a wonderful stay. She brought her dog who loved the area too. Mona and Ken were amazing hosts. They had a crib ready for our arrival. The place was clean and had an amazing view of the river. We enjoyed just hanging on the grass watching the sun pass over us thru the trees. It was so relaxing. They had menus of special restaurants to visit, but we just wanted to cook in the cabin and enjoy all the quietness the area had to offer. They are just feet away from a train that passes by from time to time. It is loud, but I actually found that enjoyable. I would run my 14 month old granddaughter out to wave at the train, and the engineer waved back. It was really special and I'm sure she will have that memory embedded someplace in that head to reflect upon in years to come. We visited the town of Mt. Shasta for lunch and strolling the main street for their fair. Wonderful people who are just happy to be together. We will be back and I'll bring more of the family. Thank you Mona and Ken. We look forward to seeing you again very soon.
