This isn’t just a house rental. It’s a 28-acre island, and you have it all to yourself. There are beautiful wooded paths around and through the island, with fantastic views all around, as well as several little beach areas, one for each moment in the day. Kayaking around the river’s islands was safe, relaxing, and easy — just pop the kayak into the water right at your front door, and off you go. We ate most of our meals outside at picnic table under some pine trees on a little bluff with a terrific view and a stone barbeque a few feet away. The Westport area is great for foodies — nice restaurants (Marguerites is not to be missed), a very good supermarket, a fish market, and several farm stands, and you can go down to the Point and buy lobsters right off the boat. You have total privacy on the island, and you’re just a short boat trip and quick drive to Gooseberry Island, Horseneck Beach, an Audubon preserve, and several quaint New England villages. The owner is extremely gracious and very helpful, and there’s also a terrific property manager. Quick return of deposit, too. It doesn’t get any better than this.
