This is a beautiful 2 bedroom home over looking Coral Bay. The woodwork and tile floors looked brand new. The appliances also looked either new or in great condition. Our 17 yr old grand-daughter said she wanted the master suite quite simply because of the almost outside shower. Not exactly outside but it certainly felt that way. The plunge pool was a most welcome sight every afternoon and evening after the beach outings. While some may question the rather steep and bumpy drive drive to the villa from the main road, we looked forward to the ascent and descent every single time. The wildlife was a bonus. The symphony of roosters, doves, banaquits, sheep and donkeys every morning around 5:15 was a wake up call that we will never forget (I mean that in a very good way). While the donkey neighing at 2:44 one morning rather scared the crap out of me, everyone laughed and thought that was the coolest thing ever. Only to be outdone by 5 more donkeys showing up two hours later to check us out. The location was 10-15 minutes from the North shore beaches and about the same amount of time to some fantastic restaurants in Coral Bay and other beaches on the South side of St. John. The only thing I would wish for is more bedrooms so that I could take more of our grand children with us. We will always be thankful to Hilarie for meeting us at the ferry dock, driving us to pick up our Jeep rental, having us follow her to the grocery store then to her Mill Ridge home.
We had a fantastic time at Mill Ridge. The home is well appointed and the view was gorgeous. The property manager, Hilarie, was extremely attentive and helpful. We hope to come back again soon!
This was a getaway for just the two of us, our first time on St. John, and staying at Mill Ridge totally set the tone for a wonderful, relaxing and rejuvenating week. The setting for the house is gorgeous and the house itself is beautifully designed and built. Everything we needed was included in the home and we actually allowed ourselves to slow down and enjoy relaxing rather than going going going all the time. But, all of the adventures on the island are easily accessible - hiking, snorkeling and eating out. When we arrived, we were met at the ferry dock by Hilarie, taken to our car rental location, and then escorted to get provisions and on to the house. This was a great way to transition and get our bearings. Resources to learn more about the island and what it offered are at the house. Our biggest decision, besides what to explore on the island everyday, was which place to sit at the house and enjoy the view (the deck, pool area and upper decks). We would totally recommend Mill Ridge to our friends. It's clean, well stocked, has incredibly crafted wood finishes, and will instantly become your home on your visit.
Our week at Mill Ridge went perfectly. The home is exactly as shown: modern, clean, spacious, and well equiped. Hilarie was a big help in getting us settled and answering all of our questions. The long and tortuous drive up from the highway is as bad as everyone has indicated in previous reviews. However, with a good four wheel drive Jeep type vehicle, it is doable, just slow going. We found the best restaurant to be Aqua Bistro in Coral Bay. For shopping, the Dolphin store in Cruz Bay seemed to offer the best selection on St. John.
Our family of four (two adults and two teens) just returned from a fabulous week at Mill Ridge. Hilarie was an incredible host --and as she escorted us through the doors of the house upon our arrival, we would not have been more thrilled with our choice of rental. The house is absolutely beautiful -- tastefully decorated, immaculately clean, well stocked. The view from the terrace and pool is stunning -- and there are many great restaurants, snorkeling spots, hikes, and beaches all within a short drive. Definitely a winner -- we would definitely consider a repeat visit.
My wife and I usually take our three children to Destin, FL for a family summer vacation. We've done this for a while and wanted to try something a bit more exotic and found Mill Ridge in St. John. Now I was a bit hesitant to go to VI off-season and during the middle of the summer but we took a chance and landed in St. Thomas on July 5th.
The owners Jason and Hilarie were fantastic, they helped us with all the logistics (ground/sea transportation, extra gear for kids, planning..etc). Everything went off without a hitch, took the ferry from Red Hook, rented a small SUV in town and headed off across the island.
The property, Mill Ridge, is on the eastern side of the island overlooking Coral Bay and far removed from Cruz Bay. At first I admit it I looked upon this as an inconvenience being on other side of the island away from all the “action” but my family and I quickly realized this was a blessing in disguise. By day two we had COMPLETELY unplugged and really enjoying our slow and wonderfully relaxing pace.
The island was surprisingly easy to get around on with our rental car. Each day we’d wake up, pick one of the island’s world famous beaches, load of the car and head out for the day. It was so easy to find our own private little section of paradise and we had a great time, lounging, snorkeling and other activities.
The owners also gave us some great recommendations of day trips we could try and they were fantastic. We went out on a boat one day, took a day trip to the British VI’s and spent a day swimming with wild sea turtles.
It was really great to see my children have the time of their lives exploring the island and waters and seeing wildlife and landscapes they’ve never experienced before. I've never seen my kids so uninterested in TV or their Ipads before. We spent the whole week together and really connected in this special place. There is a great little private pool on the property and deck overlooking Coral Bay where we spent most of our time when not out beaching or exploring. With small children I felt very safe having a pool right there as the patio is enclosed and has solid locking mechanisms on the two gates.
If you are looking for a great, relaxing, unplugged vacation with your family, Mill Ridge is the place. It was by far the best family vacation we have ever had. If you get the chance to stay at Mill Ridge, I highly recommend it and hope to bring my family back sometime in the near future.
