Villa, 3 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
I live in London, England from a young age and was educated there. Recently I have been spending lots of precious time in Jamaica where I was born. I first visited Duncans Bay in 1999 with my 2 teenage children and we were walking along a lane which has some quaint cottages and directly in front I could see the ocean appearing through the branches of almond trees which lined the banks in front of the beach. It was such a beautiful sight. A year later I bought one of the cottages. The cottage is surrounded by a beautiful garden with tropical plants. The living room opens out on to a patio area which makes it light and airy. All the bedrooms have louver windows bringing in fresh sea breeze into the rooms. There is a green area that stretches along the beach with many trees for shades. This area is great for children to play on. My children love this area along the beach and they now bring their children to play there. On a Saturday night live music is performed by local artists at the Beach bar. This area is ideal connection to many attractions and Montego Bay Airport is just 45 minutes drive.

Why Owner chose Trelawny Parish
I love the idea of strolling to the beach early mornings with a cup of coffee and take in the views and if energetic go for a swim.

A Home Away from Home
The Yellow Canary Villa far exceeded our expectations. Just steps from the beach, this vacation home had everything we needed to make our experience in Jamaica an exceptional one. Our favorite part of our stay was meeting Joan, who prepared amazing meals, helped us navigate the area, inclusive of getting fresh fish and lobster straight from the fishermen! She was so incredibly attentive and considerate. By the end of the stay, she felt like family! The villa was well-maintained and there were so many quaint areas in which to relax, so much so that I fell asleep a couple of times in the hammock. Whether traveling by yourself or with family, this is definitely a fantastic choice when coming to Jamaica. We will definitely be back!!!
Perfect Family Vacation
Yellow Canary Beach villa is a lovely property in a perfect location. The house is well maintained with functional and practical furnishings and equipment. It has a lovely garden and the proximity to a private beach makes it an ideal place for a tranquil vacation. Joan makes fantastic meals and is great with local information. The villa and location made all the difference in our vacation. We enjoyed our stay very much and regretted having to leave. We would go back in a heartbeat!
The property is fantastic. Joan is perfect. Veronica is perfect. We flew in to Kingston, rented a car and drove the two hours from Kingston to Duncans. We reached the villa at about midnight and Joan was still there waiting for us with a meal prepared. I was so happy to see her after that long drive I jumped out and hugged her. Joan was at the property every day preparing breakfast and dinner. She even accompanied us to the local supermarket to buy groceries. She was patient and giving towards my 2 year old hyperactive son and 1 year old crabby crying baby. Veronica happened to be in town when we were there and she actually stopped by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We will be back.
It was lovely to have a baby and a 2 year old in the property and quite fascinating to converse with a polite 2 year old who was not not at all afraid to speak. We thank you LaQuenta and family for choosing Yellow Canary for your holiday and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Family Spring Break Vacation
We had an amazing stay at the Yellow Canary. We traveled with four teenage girls (16, 16, 14 and 14) and two adults. Before booking, we had considered staying at an all-inclusive in Ocho Rios or Montego Bay but choose a private villa instead that was more affordable. The villa was comfortable, felt safe and easily slept 6 people.
Johnny provided transportation to/from the airport for $85 each way. He was incredibly friendly and helpful and took us to a local supermarket on our way to villa. Joan had a delicious, prepared meal waiting for us upon arrival that consisted of jerk chicken, cole slaw, and rice with beans. What a treat not to have to cook! She was wonderful about reminding me to "Go, relax and have fun. I'll take care of everything including the dishes". She also prepared several evening meals for us; our very favorite was her curry chicken! Amazing! You need to request it. I can't say enough about how wonderful she was and her delicious food.
We spent a few lazy days at the villa and enjoyed the beach, but most days were on the go having fun. Johnny helped us plan our activities and negotiated the best rates for us. He drove us everywhere and stayed with us (safe). We did the following:
1. Blue Hole - this was our very favorite day. Cost was only $15 per person, plus $10 each for water shoes and a $20 tip for our guide. Transportation (provided by Johnny) to Ocho Rios was $120. The entire experience was only $56 per person - worth every penny. On the way home we stopped at the local market and shopped for souvenirs and then stopped at a fruit stand.
2. Parasailing - our kids wanted to do this and check it off their bucket list. We went with a very professional outfitter in Montego Bay. It was a little spendy at $135 (for 2 people) but the crew and equipment were top notch. Transportation was $120.
3. Glistening Waters - $20 per person, plus $60 transportation. This was a really cool night time experience; there are only 4 places in the world where you can experience luminous water so make this part of your trip.
4. Private Charter Sailing - $600 for a 1/2 day, which included transportation to/from Montego Bay. You can have up to 15 on boat. It includes snorkeling.
The entire cost of our trip, including activities, was less than an all-inclusive stay. We got WAY more and created memories that will last a lifetime!
One suggestion: provide fold-able beach chairs, towels and a large umbrella for guests to use at the beach.
Great location, pretty interior and front yard
We very much enjoyed our stay at the villa. Its main asset is the awesome location -- 50 meters to the beach, situated in a quiet, pretty side street. The furnishings are nice and in good condition, and the rooms are clean and wonderfully airy, so we didn't use A/C at all.
One nitpick: the kitchen was rather dirty, and we spent some time cleaning it up (wiping surfaces, washing dirty pots and pans, ...). I understand that the villa comes with a cook (and we enjoyed her cooking on occasion), but we also wanted to be able to use the kitchen ourselves -- when we arrived, the kitchen was all but inviting.
I and my 2 staff cleaned and prepared the property thoroughly into the afternoon before our guests arrive. I am appalled by his comment that the kitchen was dirty. My 10 years of hoisting I have never had that type of comment by any of my guests. In fact I have had the opposite comment. My housekeeper has had an awful time with these guests. Although their English was very good they appear not to want to speak to her. They only spoke to her if they had to. I have had good communication on the internet with the main guest but in their presence I found, also the cook who communicated happily with guests from around the world, found them to be “not pleasant”.
As the same with these guests some of them want to cook their meals and we do not object to that but often the pots and pans and the stove are burnt so badly that we have to replace quickly what we can or try to deal with cleaning them as best as possible for use again. I can assure you that these guests never had that problem scouring pots as he claims as the pots and pans present are in good condition.
This property was everything we hoped for and more. Clean, neat and lovely.
I have one word for our stay....fabulous!!!! The house was clean and spotless and only a short walk from the very private, beautiful beach. Joan the cook and Johnny the driver are accommodating and fantastic. The locals are very nice and we were able to hire a boat to do some snorkeling for a very affordable price. This turned out to be the best vacation my family and I have ever taken. Thank you so much for such a wonderful vacation and will be sure to tell all my friends about this property. We look forward to coming back and staying with you next year.
We are so pleased that the family have had a wonderful time both at the villa and nearby adventures. Thank you for being so kind to the staff and they extend their best wishes to the family. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.
