This beautifully decorated home is large and has an open layout to maximize on the view. You even get a view of the ocean from the master bathroom! There is also a comfortable studio on the ground level of our house (which can be rented separately or together) to accommodate larger families.
All this comes complete with breathtaking, full frontal views of the Atlantic Ocean. The house is very private. It has beautifully manicured grounds along with fruit trees. Enjoy the wonderful ocean breeze from the very large balcony or from the huge hammock. Take a wonderful walk on the beach (five minutes drive). If you are around during the months of February to March, you may get lucky and see whales!
The upstairs of the house sleeps six, and the studio sleep three to four. Please take note--the house can be rented completely or separately. See fees listed.
My husband David and I have 3 children. We love to travel but most of all we love to spend time in our home in Puerto Rico. We have many wonderful memories in this house. We hope you will also have a memorable time!!
Maria Pereira purchased this house in 2005
We fell in love with this home the second we saw it. The ocean views and the open floor plan was exactly what we were looking for. We hope to retire here one day. We love Puerto Rico, its culture and its people!
We love the grounds! My husband and I like to garden and completely get immersed in our gardening when we visit. We love to sit on the deck in the evenings, play some music and enjoy the stars.
If you're looking for peace and quiet Solimar is perfect for you. If you love to just sit and stare at the ocean, then Solimar perfect is for you. But if you want to be close to all the amenities we North Americans are used to, then Solimar is perfect for you too. It's located just 10 minutes from everything (Walmart, Church's Chicken, Pondarosa, Walgreens) but also minutes away from lots of little local stores and restaurants. Plus great roadside fruit and veggy stands. We're not beach people but if you are there are lots of very private beaches nearby.
The house is exactly like the pictures which is always a pleasant surprise. Very comfortable king size bed and couches in the living room. We are readers so comfortable lounging is very important to us. Lounging on the deck just watching the Iguanas come into the garden below was my favorite pass time. We were also lucky enough to see whales our first few mornings...that was so exciting! Maria was very easy to work with and her mom, also Maria, very sweet and welcoming.
We rented a car which is a must. A GPS, in addition to an island map, is also a must. As Maria will tell you, Puerto Rico is not great for signage, in fact many streets have no signage. When you look at the map remember, the smaller the road #, like #2, the larger the road. If you see a road with a 3 or 4 digit number expect to be driving a very narrow and winding road....my husband loved those! Road # 123 is a major route that runs North and South through the mountains. It is super spectacular, the mountains are breathtaking but it's like a roller coaster with lots of oncoming traffic, again, my husband had a blast driving it!
We had some wonderful trips around the island but were always happy to get back to Solimar and sit on the deck with an nice cold Medalla! We loved Solimar!
We had a great time at Solimar. nice clean home with amazing view and breezes. Very nicely landscaped gardens and flowers blooming around the outdoor shower. I would love to go back when the weather is a bit cooler. there is amazing snorkeling at the area beaches and good food at Tuluum. Our only negatives were a dysfunctional DVD player and broken dishwasher, yet was worth every penny. Thank You Maria
Maria, you have a beautiful home, situated where I consider to be the best place on earth, overlooking the ocean. The week that I had stayed was very relaxing. My main reason for choosing your home, was to enjoy the ocean view, unwind, and just for 1 week, live as if I was retired. Your home is more than what pictures can show. Even though I didn't get to meet your Mom, due to car trouble. The gentleman that you sent was very polite and thorough in showing me around your home. Your home is clean and well maintained, both inside and outside. Even though you do overlook the ocean, you are still close to the every day necessities of life. I made Selecto Supermarket and Ricomini Bakery my main spots. The cafeteria in Selecto has very good food and the bakery has delicious cakes and doughnuts and sandwiches. Anyone looking at this property, you can't go wrong. Make Solimar your vacation destination.
We loved our stay at Solimar. My husband and I spent 5 days and it was perfect. The master bedroom faces the ocean and we fell asleep to the sound of crashing waves and the feel of ocean breezes every night. It was wonderful. We loved the fact that you felt the sun streaming in every morning and heard the roosters crowing. It is accessible to everything you could need and the house was fully equipped. Thank you Maria!
We stayed at Maria's place for 3 days, after having spent our first 3 days at a very pricey resort near San Juan. While we also enjoyed our stay at the resort, I much preferred our stay at Solimar. The house is an exceptional value versus the costs at the resorts. The views of the ocean are incredible! There are many local beaches to explore along with lots of dining options. I highly suggest that you bring along a Garmon or some other GPS device though, as i would have had a very difficult time finding this place at night time without one.
Best sunrise ever and great ocean views
First off, I'd like to personally thank Maria, she was a easy to work with during the booking process and answered every question I had, as well as addressed every concern. Thank you Maria! We will be visiting PR again and will certainly book your property again if it's available.
Secondly, the westside of the island, where this house is located is quite, tranquil, majestic and is a true taste of paradise. You're so close to a lot of great things to do and see. The local beaches are amazing. I recommend Crash Boat, Jobos, Surfers Beach, Survival Beach. If you're up for a bit more of an adventure I recommend Gozalandia Waterfalls in San Sebastian (35 minute drive) It's gorgeous there, you hike, swim and explore. A little further, you have La Parguera in Lajas (1.5 hour drive) where you can checkout great snorkeling and the amazing Bio-Bay tour (think of glowing water). A little further even, is Monkey Island in Cayo Santiago (2 hour drive) where you can kayak up to, but not on the island that is only inhabited by monkeys (it's WAY cool). We went and got to watch them for a couple of hours. It's WAY better than any zoo experience. You can find all of these places on Trip Advisor. Last but not least was our favorite trip Batey Del Cemi in Utuado (1.5 hour drive) we hiked, crossed a suspension bridge, rappelled 150' cliff and zip lined (8 zip lines) all while in the middle of what seemed like the jungle, it was AMAZING! Just search for Things To Do in the cities mentioned and you will get a better idea as well as see pictures. We did all of the above and LOVED every bit of it. I had a party of 4 adults. We were only in Puerto Rico for a week, but we toured the island multiple times.
Again, I HIGHLY recommend Solimar, it's beauty, charm and views are worth experiencing time and time again. Thank you, thank you, thank you Maria and family for extending your hospitality to us. I travel a lot, but overall this was my best vacation yet. I will cherish the memories I created there forever.
Puerto Rico’s west coast region, also known as Porta del Sol, has long been a mecca for surfers from all over the world. Isabela lays claim to some of the finest spots on the island.
This municipality also features the Guajataca State Forest, which it shares with Quebradillas. Hikers will revel in the intricate trail system, Bird-watchers will delight at the 45 species of birds here, including the Guaraguaos (taíno name for the red-tailed hawk). The reserve also features picnic areas and an observation tower.
