Great location, but could use a little TLC.

  • 3 of 5

Overall it's a great bang for your buck considering the location and time of year. It's only a 5-10 minute stroll into the downtown area and the back deck served as the central location for our group during our stay. Beautiful view of the lake, especially during sunset. The property's physical condition could use some work but it's nothing a little elbow grease can't repair. Upon entering the home the house did have an odor that you can't miss and there were some things that could've been a bit cleaner or better maintained. The water feature out back is pretty gross. If you're looking for an affordable stay that's convenient to all that Saugatuck has to offer then this is a great option. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that's accustomed to a 5-star resort experience but for the average traveler or a family with high energy kids it gets a thumbs up. Also, suggestion to the owner, please label all of the light switches ... there are roughly 20-30 of them throughout the house.

Great location! Very comfortable and clean!

  • 5 of 5

Our trip included 5 adults and 3 small dogs (about 8 lbs each). We had a wonderful time at this property! The location was amazing, just a 5 minute walk into town! The house looks very small from the outside, but is actually bigger than it looks. The beds were very comfortable as well as the couch and futon. There were extra blankets and pillows in the bedroom closet which came in handy. The outdoor amenities made the stay even more comfortable. The large grill and deck furniture made it very comfortable to cook dinner while relaxing at the same time. There is a small pond in the back yard with running water that enhances the relaxation experience. Lastly, we were greeted on arrival with a bottle of sangria and list of area attractions with brochures, very nice touch! We decided as a family to come back to Saugatuck every year. Next year we hope to stay for a full week at this same location! However, once suggestion, bring your bug spray and citronella candles, all of Saugatuck is very bug friendly in the evening, obviously due to the lake!

Great time, staying in a great cottage, very clean

  • 5 of 5

This house was situated in an ideal spot; The view of the lake was wonderful and the neighbors very nice. It seemed as if there were sections of the house that were newer than others, but all was in good shape, especially based on the overall age of several original cottages in that area. We were a bit apprehensive at first, due to the recent scathing review, another couple gave this house. When I called Dana, she had not seen it.

When we arrived, Dana's Husband was there to greet us, and gave us answers to anything we asked about. The house was amazingly clean. I can clearly say, we were able to utilize everything the house had to offer, except the oven and outdoor firepit, with no issues.

My one issue is not with the house, but with HomeAway : I initially entered my email incorrectly, with a “.cm” instead of “ .com” and received no notices. I submitted requests for assistance, even with their parent company with no response. Luckily, I was able to call the overs directly. Don’t venture away from HomeAway's happy path!

I am recommending this property to other friends in the Birmingham MI area as well. Definitely worth the stay, Thank you Dana!

Definitely will return!

  • 5 of 5

Definitely a nice place to stay. Home was clean and provided enough space for a girls weekend. Owner provided information on various activities in and around Saugatuck. Besides shopping and walking around town, ate at many good restaurants - Butlers, Wallys, The Mermaid, and Monroes. Loved sitting on the deck and seeing the spectacular views.

This cottage is neither cute nor charming.

  • 1 of 5

The decor reminded me of a single male's first apartment. The bed linens including the bedskirt were all rumpled. We assumed the linens were clean. The curtain rod in the bedroom was broken. One of the couches had several small holes that might have been burn marks. The grass was at least eight inches tall and the water feature was incredibly dirty and filled with algae. The deck is nice but all the furniture was mildewed. Since we were only there for three days and were gone most of the time looking to buy property, I did not call the owner.

The house was clean but is very "tired" looking. The bed we slept in was comfortable.

Provisions were scant. A liquid bottle of hand soap at each sink and toilet paper. No bathing soap. No salt and pepper. Cleaning and washing soap were provided for the dishwasher and washing machine.

The next week we rented a darling house within walking distance to town (no water view) for less than 2/3 the price. It came fully equipped with all kinds of condiments and bath necessities and more.

I know the owner will reply that we had three dogs so I am letting you know, but I will also let you know that aside

from hair on the carpet in the living room, there was no evidence that any animals had been in the house, Our dogs

are well behaved. The nice green patch of lawn that you see in the picture is not public property.

My husband's comment about this review is that I am being generous.

Owner's Response: I’m not sure how to address the décor being like a "single male’s first apartment". I’m not sure what that means. I tried to support local artists and that is what many of the pictures are on the wall. So, I guess every taste is different but it is decorated with some local art The cleaning crew is good and linens are cleaned between every guest. They also make the beds nicely. If a bed was rumpled, I would assume one of the 3 dogs you pointed out probably jumped on it or ran into it before you saw it. I went in to examine the damage complaints you made and couldn’t find the burn marks or broken curtain rod you referred to. The cleaning crew is also good about calling maintenance if there is something damaged or broken between guests. If something broke during your stay…. If you had given me a chance by calling, I would have sent maintenance over right away to fix it. The landscaper comes once a week to mow. I’m not sure if it rained during your stay to get the cushions wet but that is why we have a box for the cushions on the deck so they don’t get wet. We don’t provide any food items. We tried leaving ketchup and things like that in the refrigerator before but most guests didn’t like it and didn’t want to use other people’s left overs so we stopped. As you pointed out, as well as what is stated in the listing is that we provide soap for the sinks, dishwasher and washing machine as well as paper towels and tp. Towels and linens are also provided. In addition, I try to leave a bottle of shampoo and conditioner under the sink in case someone forgets theirs. Also, as the listing stated the house has lake views not lake access. The picture is showing the lake view. I also have pictures which show the back yard. I feel like a 1 rating is rather harsh for a house you said was clean, had comfortable beds, and a good view from the deck. I wish you had called and given me a chance to correct anything you thought was wrong because I’m always happy to try to help make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. .
