Wonderful place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Retreat at Rum Point in unit 32. This is a wonderful location-close to beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and all the other terrific things that Grand Cayman has to offer. We highly recommend this type of vacation.

Great place and location

  • 4 of 5

My family of 6 used the property for 7 days. For 6 persons our son slept on the couch which was fine with him. The location on Rum Point is fantastic for hanging on a beautiful beach, going for walks and enjoying some of the best snorkeling on Grand Cayman. The only reason I did not give this condo 5 stars is because for us 5 stars would be more luxurious. For the price, this is well worth it. We might return after a few years.

#32 retreat

After searching and searching for the best deal, location, amenities, beach, snorkeling etc...I decided on this condo and we are SO GLAD that I did ! First, let me start by saying I research everything. Reviews are important to me (although I do take some with a grain of salt as some people aren't happy about anything). I had several properties I was trying to decide between. I sent emails asking questions to each condo owner and then even spoke with them on the phone. Let me just say that when I spoke with Wayne about his condo. I immediately decided that I was booking it. He was extremely helpful and caring of my situation (going through chemo and there was a chance I would have to cancel last minute if I didn't feel up to the travel.) So, long story short...sometimes the people you deal with regarding the property is just as important as the property itself.

The condo was immaculate when we arrived. I can't believe that a place ON THE BEACH didn't have a trace of sand in it anywhere!! It had everything you needed for the week including a beautiful view from the side lanai. It literally is steps from the water. We literally had the beach to ourselves the first few days. We would see a couple of people walking to their condos here and there, but that was it until Friday evening when others started arriving. It was amazing to have an entire beach to ourselves!!!!!

Here are a few tidbits for you- The snorkeling was great!! Walk down the road aprox 1/4mile to the public beach(you'll see a green wall at the entrance). You can swim out a bit and then let the current take you back to the condo. We saw lots of cool fish including a HUGE parrotfish and about a 6' nurse shark (the two favorite sights). As we were leaving one of the neighbors told us we should have went out to our beach (there is a little line of rocks between the beach and the pier-you will see it during the day). Go out at night with an underwater light and snorkel. She said there are so many more different fish out including tons of octopus and eels completely out of there holes. I wish someone would have shared that with us BEFORE we left. :( The grocery store down the street is WAY more expensive than the bigger stores. Don't make the mistake of forgetting to stop while you are leaving the airport and stocking up on your groceries. We made a costly mistake!!! I wasnt planning on cooking much as this was post-chemo week for me and it's vacation!!

Rum Point Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four from Boston ( two adults & two teens) arrived at the condo for some relaxation after spending a fun but hectic week on seven mile beach. The condo was perfect, lots of space and well equipped. The view of the beach from the screened in porch was lovely. It was great being right next door to the public Rum Point beach with snack bar, restaurant, shop, and watersports, but still having our own private, quiet beach to ourselves. It was like being in a resort but with our own space, and much better value. To be so close to the beach, with so many amenities, and still feel secluded is very rare. We enjoyed snorkeling from the beach (saw Sting Rays, Lion fish, Barracuda, Cuttlefish and many more) trip to Sting Ray City with Red Sail Sports (go late in the day when no cruise ships are in), sunset at Starfish Point, and the nearby caves tour (fantastic stalactites and stalagmites). Eating out options are fairly limited if you don't want to drive so stock up on groceries before coming. There is a small supermarket about 10 minutes away for basics). This is the perfect location to rest and unwind after spending time on the other side of the island. Thanks for a great stay.

Great condo, steps away from the best snorkeling on the island

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a very clean and well-stocked condo. Plenty of space and amenities for our family of 4 (kids ages 10 and 7) to spend the week. We loved the crowd-free location of Rum Point (compared to the 7 mile beach/cruise port area) and after exploring several other snorkeling spots around the island, have concluded that the best is right off Rum Point (the white buoy even marks where you need to swim to) or walk down the street to the Cayman Kai Public Beach and drift snorkel back to Rum Point. For those that don't want to swim that far out, there is plenty of good coral closer in to the point and around the pier. Walk out to the beach in the evenings for beautiful sunsets (we brought our own travel hammock and strung it up between 2 palm trees). We also did the Sting Ray City trip from Red Sail Sports twice and the staff there is great. We had a rental car so were able to take a few days trips to explore Starfish Point, the Turtle Farm, the Botanical Gardens, the Blow Holes, Barefoot Beach, Old Man Bay, Smith Cove (2nd best snorkel site), Cemetery Beach, and Governor's Beach but were just as happy on the days that we stayed and hung out at Rum Point. There aren't a lot of options for eating out on Rum Point but we stocked up on groceries so that didn't bother us. We would definitely come back to Cayman Island and stay at this unit but now we know not to waste our time driving around....the best is right outside the door.
