'The Bluff House' is a very private turn of the century informal cottage located down a private country lane directly on the water overlooking Pleasant Bay, Nauset Beach, and the Ocean beyond. An ideal family retreat with ping pong, croquet, pier, swimming, boat mooring, and nearby golf. All bedrooms have water views and the large patio and yard offer unending summer fun. A great house for informal entertaining or escaping the real world. A home where time stands still and days float by. A short drive to town, restaurants, golf, theaters, and shopping with all the privacy of a bygone era. Fishing off the pier or chartering a boat for your stay allows the descriminating few a chance to relax only 1.75 hours from Boston.
Who best fits the house: This is a charming house for those people who want to be near it all yet able to step back to a quieter family oriented environment. This is a great beach house with the comfort that can only be found in old estate area's where property has not changed hands in 4 generations. Everything is well preserved, updated, and clean. But most importantly family's can relax and enjoy the best location on Cape Cod. The dock goes with the house and is shared by 2 family members who have houses nearby. There is a boathouse on the beach that is not included in the rental price at this time. If you are looking for a very comforatble house with unbeatable views and a location that cannot be duplicated you will not be disappointed. Walk down the path/stairs to the beach for easy access.
air conditioning: I am in the business of providing AC and have never needed it at the Bluff House. The AC that exists is a window unit in the master bedroom. There are ample fans, cross ventilation, and the evening ocean air to keep the house cool and comfortable.
games: there is croquet, ping pong that is set up in the cleaned out garage, numerous board games, puzzles, and a small library.
With the best views we have ever seen we never wanted to leave this lovely old family home. We relaxed and felt we got away from the fast paced world every time we drove down that long secluded driveway. The beach and surrounding area of Chatham had everything we needed from excursions to explore sandy islands, boating, golf, shopping, restaurants, and did I mention fishing off the pier. We caught great bass and were quick to throw them on the grill overlooking unspoiled waters and bays not found anywhere we have been before on the Cape. Thank you for letting us stay at this wonderful place.
I can't do this property justice with words alone. It was truly an experience of a lifetime that I hope to repeat. The house was unique and charming and the grounds were spacious and well-maintained. The views were spectacular. We had some weather the first few days which made things interesting, but it did not damper our enjoyment of the property. The owner was incredibly gracious and flexible, and responsive. And the neighbors/family were all super friendly. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a peaceful getaway with amazing views and a charming, unique, relaxing atmosphere.
We were in Chatham for a wedding in Sept and the Bluff House was the perfect place to stay. The house has lots of old New England character and charm and the property and views are spectacular. It is so private yet very close to everything in town. Great place to unwind and relax but there are plenty of activities available as well. Something for everyone.
All I can say is WOW. If you have the opportunity to rent this house, you will not be disappointed. It is located off the beaten path in a private setting of North Chatham which is one the most desirable locations of Cape Cod. The house itself is very practical with everything your family will need to live the good life. By far, the most impressive feature to the estate is the view...it is jaw dropping. Honestly, I had a hard time justifying leaving the house to go golfing, out to dinner, etc because of how amazing it truly was.
What an amazing house! Private, green grass, views!!!! The inside is cozy and comfortable. They have everything you need and the house is SO close to great restaurants!!!! We walked down to the beach (literally steps from the back door), kayaked, played in the yard with our bulldogs and enjoyed a fire every night! Opened the windows and listened to the wind and the creaks of the house. Just amazing. We did not want to leave! I was originally also looking at renting a house in Orleans and SO glad I went with Chatham (Thanks Woody) We drove around the entire Cape and Chatham is where you want to be- in the Bluff House- no kidding.
Down a quiet Country Lane with no traffic or worries lies a house with access to fine dining, museums, nature walks, movies, golf, tennis, and endless beaches. With swimming and fishing off the pier and a mooring for a tenant supplied boat, this home is highly recommended for those people seeking a simple informal escape. This area of Chatham represents Old Cape Cod as houses have not changed hands in generations. With the warmer bay water swimming off the pier or at the beach is warmer than other area's of the outer Cape. The bass fishing is outstanding and the privacy is almost impossible to duplicate within the Chatham area. Golf and the town are within 3 miles. With everything that Nantucket has for a fraction of the cost.
Other Activities: From fine dining to quiet beach adventures. Seal tours, charter boat fishing, day trips to Nantucket, and numerous secluded beach tours all within 5 minutes drive. Please call the owner with any specific questions as there are too many options to list.
Golf: There are numerous Golf courses throughout the Cape within a 3 to 30 minute drive. the local Muni is an ideal spot for bringing kids of all ages to pick up the sport or get that quick round in before going to the beach or out to dinner. There are no tee times so just show up with the kids and enjoy. For the more serious golfer, the Captains, Cranberry Valley, Cape Cod National (semi private) and Highlands are some of the great venues to enjoy.
