This spacious 4, 000 square-foot recently renovated home has five bedrooms, three full-sized bathrooms, two living rooms, two dining tables, a large outdoor slate patio, a fenced yard, gardens galore, central AC and heating, hot tub and gas fireplace. Experience nature right out the front door in the Santa Cruz mountains, with only 20 minutes of traffic-free driving to Westside Santa Cruz, 10 minutes to Felton, and 20 minutes to the splendor of Highway One North Coast beaches. This home is available for mid-term (30 days) or longer-term rental only.

There are two homes on this property. This property is the main residence and there is an additional private residence with a shared driveway and separate parking area.

pleasant stay in the doon

We had an unusually long stay of nearly 2 months while our house was under repair. There were other tenants on the property and occasionally the owner would stop by her studio, so its not completely private, but most of the time it feels like it is. We had our dog who was crate trained and that was pretty workable except when the tenants had their dogs out- our dog wanted to play! Focusing on the positives, overall the house is well kept and the gardens are lovely, and there is a fenced area reserved for the house. For us the location was great.

The house was just right for a group of 10 family members. Clean, open, quiet and fresh.

Worked well for a family of 10. Loved the open kitchen, dining and family room area. The bedrooms were spread out so everyone had their own space. Added 2 blow up mattresses for boys. Back deck was used several times as was the BBQ. Quiet safe neighborhood. Had to drive to most things to do--town, forests, hikes, ocean, etc. Food was "down the mountain." Would highly recommend this home.

Beautiful Home but no privacy

The house was fantastic but had a few issues. 1st issue is that when booked it said that it was 5 acres, it wasn’t until later that I found out that it had a VERY close rental on the same property. When we arrived it also had a room that was connected to the house also rented. The owner NEVER told us about that. The upstairs bedroom had a litter box full of clean litter under the bed. We had someone who has anaphylactic Allergies to cats. So that wasn’t good. The outside garbage on deck was full. Freezer had owners food with a note not to touch (we didn’t mind). Also, cameras all over the front and back deck. Talk about a complete violation of privacy. Those cameras have sound and were never notified. I believe that is illegal. The house was almost 80°, and you have to contact the owner to have them turn it on. They keep complete control over it remotely which you do not find out until after you check in. I do VRBO rentals regularly and this was definitely a 1st.

My twin sons are off to college and I am missing that satisfying feeling of hosting people in our beloved family home. After 20 years of hosting my own family and friends, I have renovated our home to share the joy we have experienced here with others looking for a relaxing retreat with family and friends. We designed and built this home with the love of nature and hosting groups of friends and family in mind. With lots of space and light, this home makes 'happy times' easy! The surrounding Santa Cruz Mountains and beaches have brought so much joy to us over the years, we hope you too will benefit from this magical place.

Why they chose this property

We are a 10-minute drive to Felton where you will find major grocery stores, cafes, a new brewery and several restaurants. Across from the Cal Fire Station at the apex of four roads, there is no better spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. World-class mountain biking and hiking can be found right down the street. Everything from pristine beaches to roller coasters at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalks is located within a 20-minute drive. From wineries to walking tours, there is so much to do here! Perhaps the best part of this location is that we are above the fog and the crowds in Santa Cruz. Our four roads provide direct access and no traffic to everything your heart desires. Come and enjoy the natural wonderland of our Santa Cruz Mountains Retreat, you will leave restored, rejuvenated and ready to come back for more.

What makes this property unique

You will find lots of space in this home, with high ceilings, four sets of French (glass) doors, and stylish comfortable furnishings. Large, dual pane windows surround you with nature in every room. I am an avid gardener, come see my hummingbirds' paradise. We have two 65-inch "smart" TVs to stream your favorite shows or movies.

Our kids' room has a Siga competition ping pong table and our best family games and lots of room for playtime. Solid-core doors and new insulation make this house a good place for late sleepers and separation of space for a variety of activities (including sleeping!).

Our large outdoor patio and hot tub provide a perfect view of the meadow, Redwood Groves, gardens and starry night sky. The best entertainment up here might be stargazing—bring your star map apps, lounge on our outdoor double-chaise, and check out the universe every night. Enjoy the hip-and-happening hustle and bustle of Santa Cruz, but then come home to a quiet, nature sanctuary in Bonny Doon. We truly offer you the best of both worlds!

There are exterior-only cameras on the property, a caretakers unit with a separate entrance and parking, and owner's residence behind a detached garage. CalFire is located across the street. No outdoor fires or smoking are allowed on the property. Outside guests are not allowed and we appreciate quiet hours between 10 pm and 10 am.
